Madara Uchiha's Backup Plan

"The cause of the war should lie with Kirigakure. Kirigakure's Mizukage, Yagura, seemed to be pushing for war, using it as a means to weaken the clans and forces that opposed him. War was the best excuse."

"Hmph. Such crude and despicable tactics."

Madara Uchiha snorted disdainfully. Though Yagura's methods were clever, they seemed crude and despicable to Madara Uchiha.

If you had the ability, you could just show yourself and wipe those people out. Why go around in circles, stirring up and driving a war?

White Zetsu grinned, revealing an eerie smile.

After looking down on Yagura for a while, Madara Uchiha asked, "How is the intelligence gathering on Konoha going? Have you found a suitable target?"

White Zetsu grinned. "Sorry, Madara-sama. The children of Uchiha's new generation are rather... um..."

Nagato alone was not enough to reassure Madara Uchiha. He needed a backup plan.

So he intended to choose a suitable pawn from the Uchiha Clan, one that would be easy to control.

Unfortunately, such a pawn was not easy to find.

The pawn needed to be talented, yet stubborn and extreme at heart.

Only a gifted pawn was qualified to take his place and work toward the Infinite Tsukuyomi plan. And someone who was fundamentally obsessive, once corrupted or provoked and influenced by something, could become completely unreasonable.

Like Obito Uchiha.

He might look cheerful on the surface, like a foolish but kind-hearted boy, but once he was provoked and completely fell into darkness, he would want nothing more than to destroy the entire world, as though the whole world had wronged him.

"No suitable candidate?"

White Zetsu had hemmed and hawed for ages without saying anything meaningful, and Madara Uchiha already knew what he wanted to say.

Though he could not see, his perception remained intact.
