Ch. 1041Sudden Change
Summary of “Sudden Change”
Key Plot Points and Events
- After the destruction of the Medicine King Sect’s guardian formation and buildings, the ruins remain partially protected by residual Spirit Formations. Most major sects are occupied rescuing their own people, leaving only a small number of injured cultivators inside the ruins.
- Taking advantage of this absence, the Vast Earth Empire secretly surrounds the ruins with five enormous scrolls. When activated together, they create a powerful barrier that stabilizes the chaotic Power of Heaven and Earth and traps everyone inside.
- The empire declares that it is “cleaning up its traitors,” clearly targeting Huo Hai, who was born in the Vast Earth Empire. The Wine Immortal Sect condemns the act as hypocritical and unjust, but the formation is already active and supposedly cannot be stopped.
- Huo Hai, who has been collecting books from the Scripture Pavilion, realizes he is trapped. His Sword Qi cannot penetrate the barrier, so he recalls his Star Gu and uses them to form multiple defensive layers.
- The trapped Spirit Emperors attempt to break out, but the Vast Earth Empire ignores their protests. The formation then unleashes violent tornadoes filled with countless wind blades. The attacks possess the power of a Peak Spirit Emperor and kill the weaker injured cultivators almost instantly.
- The Gale destroys the remaining Medicine King Sect buildings and gradually wears down Huo Hai’s Star Gu. Although he fights with everything he has, he is injured and rapidly consumes his spiritual power. Eventually, he becomes the only survivor inside the formation.
- At the critical moment, Huo Hai remembers the Four Spirit Beasts Death Formation taken from the Blood Curse King. He releases his Killing Aura Flood Dragon, which has grown enormously powerful from the deaths of countless Exotic Beasts.
- The Flood Dragon’s strength now surpasses even that of a Seventh-level Spirit Emperor, though its immense Killing Aura makes it difficult for Huo Hai to control. It nevertheless enters the Four Spirit Beasts Death Formation and begins gathering its power to destroy the Vast Earth Empire’s killing formation.
Character Developments
- Huo Hai demonstrates alertness, adaptability, and composure under extreme pressure. Rather than panic when trapped, he quickly assesses the formation, strengthens his defenses, and searches for a desperate countermeasure.
- His Star Gu remain loyal and protect him, but the sustained Peak Spirit Emperor-level attacks push them to their limit and cause them serious injury.
- The Killing Aura Flood Dragon has undergone a major transformation. After absorbing the Killing Aura produced by countless deaths, it has become terrifyingly powerful, though its growing strength threatens Huo Hai’s control over it.
- The Vast Earth Empire’s leader reveals himself as ruthless and politically calculating. Although he claims to be punishing a traitor, his actions are motivated by revenge and the desire to eliminate Huo Hai while the other powers are weakened.
- The Wine Immortal Sect elder openly defends Huo Hai and denounces the Vast Earth Empire, showing the sect’s hostility toward injustice and its willingness to confront powerful enemies despite its own losses.
Significant Themes
- Betrayal and political hypocrisy: The Vast Earth Empire disguises an assassination attempt as legitimate punishment for treason, while other powers recognize its actions as an abuse of authority.
- Survival through adaptability: Huo Hai survives not through overwhelming strength alone but by quickly using every resource available to him.
- The danger of uncontrolled power: The Killing Aura Flood Dragon’s immense strength is both an asset and a potential threat, since Huo Hai may eventually lose control of it.
- Vulnerability after conflict: Even powerful sects and empires have been badly weakened by the war, creating opportunities for enemies to strike and settle old grievances.
- Loyalty and alliance: Huo Hai’s Star Gu and Flood Dragon fight for him, while the Wine Immortal Sect’s defense contrasts with the Vast Earth Empire’s betrayal.
Character Interactions
- The Vast Earth Empire leader argues with the Wine Immortal Sect elder over the legitimacy of attacking Huo Hai. The elder calls the empire hypocritical, while the leader insists that Huo Hai is a traitor who falls under the empire’s authority.
- The trapped Spirit Emperors try to appeal to the outside powers and break through the barrier, but the Vast Earth Empire deliberately ignores them.
- Huo Hai coordinates with his Star Gu, using them as a protective shield, and later commands the Killing Aura Flood Dragon to attack the Four Spirit Beasts Death Formation.
- The chapter ends with Huo Hai and the Flood Dragon beginning their counterattack, setting up a direct struggle between Huo Hai’s emergency formation and the Vast Earth Empire’s deadly barrier.
