The night grew deeper.
Ba Dawang had probably been lying there in a daze for about half an hour.
Then he suddenly heard a chorus of ghostly howls.
He jolted upright with a start!
He looked out the window in surprise.
Although the Ghost Market had not yet closed, many of the demons and ghosts within it were now looking up at the sky, seemingly watching something.
Ba Dawang looked up as well, and his scalp instantly went numb.
The sky was blotted out by countless resentful souls rapidly converging from the direction of the battlefield.
The terrifying ghostly wails blended into one, all coming from those resentful souls in the sky.
At the center of the war zone, beams of light radiated from somewhere, and those resentful souls all seemed to be heading in that direction.
What was that?
The mournful howls alone were enough to give Ba Dawang a headache. The sheer number of ghosts now made his scalp tingle. There were too many to count!
Just as Ba Dawang was about to head outside, the old man appeared at the doorway out of nowhere.
The old man glanced outside, then slowly shut the wooden door.
The old man seemingly had not noticed Ba Dawang standing behind him. After closing the door, he turned and headed toward the inner room, but a sheet of paper suddenly fell from his waist with a slap.
Ba Dawang carefully walked over, picked up the note, then returned to the bed where he had been lying and slowly unfolded it.
At first, it seemed harmless. But the moment he looked at it, he nearly threw the note away.
The paper bore several hand-drawn images.
It appeared to be a crude map of this war zone, with a circle drawn at its center.
