Follow the Example of the Undying King
Shrouding the Heavens world.
After gaining a vast amount of the most devout power of faith, Qin Sheng underwent a kind of divine sublimation in Douluo Continent, gaining a brand-new understanding of certain things in that world.
"After all this time of accumulation and research, along with this latest harvest, I finally have some leads on adapting soul skill secret arts to Shrouding the Heavens."
Qin Sheng was delighted, filled with the satisfaction of a bountiful harvest.
Some soul skills in Douluo Continent had effects that were utterly heaven-defying.
For example, "Void" could nullify all non-energy physical attacks and weaken any energy attack by fifty percent.
There was also Tang San's "Unfixed Storm," an absolute-control divine skill. Once unleashed, it could control an enemy for several seconds with a one-hundred-percent success rate.
These soul skills could all be called rule-based techniques, vaguely prying at the laws of heaven and earth.
Of course, Qin Sheng knew that the Douluo world's level was far inferior to Shrouding the Heavens. These soul skills had their own limits and were not omnipotent; they had to rely on the rules of the Douluo world to function.
But what he wanted to do had never been to copy them wholesale. Rather, he intended to use these soul skills as a blueprint, retain the essence and discard the dross, drawing inspiration and direction from them.
The Shrouding the Heavens path ultimately treated the body as the seed. Qin Sheng could likewise use the "specialties" of other worlds as seeds and reap fruits that belonged to him.
"Using the principles of soul skills as a foundation and combining them with my own comprehension of the Great Dao, I've created Law Secret Patterns belonging to the Shrouding the Heavens world. Now, let's see whether they work."
Mobilizing his divine power, Qin Sheng began inscribing Law Secret Patterns onto his body, starting with his left arm.
As one mysterious, distinct secret pattern after another was branded onto it, Qin Sheng's physical body began to feel pressure.
The laws of heaven and earth were stirred by these secret patterns and blessed his body, clashing with his flesh and forming a battlefield within.
Bang!
Qin Sheng's arm suddenly exploded. He frowned slightly.
"There's a problem with the fifty-eighth secret pattern. Its carrying capacity should be increased."
His flesh wriggled as his injury recovered, and Qin Sheng continued experimenting.
Bang!
"After modifying the fifty-eighth secret pattern, it caused some chain reactions. It should..."
He failed many times, but cultivators of Shrouding the Heavens possessed extremely tenacious vitality. For someone in the Four Extremes Secret Realm, the loss of flesh was nothing.
As long as he had sufficient heaven-and-earth essence and his origin was undamaged, many injuries could be easily healed.
A day later, Qin Sheng successfully inscribed the secret patterns onto his left arm. They connected into a whole, their Dao charm flowing naturally.
Qin Sheng attacked his left arm with divine power, carefully sensing every change after it was struck.
A moment later.
"Ha, I did it!" Qin Sheng rejoiced inwardly.
After his divine-power attack landed on his arm, its might had been weakened by around one-fifth!
This proved that his research over the years was feasible!
"Sure enough, the collision of systems across the myriad heavens and worlds, the accumulation of knowledge, and the friction that sparks wisdom can bring me endless benefits!" Qin Sheng was exhilarated.
Qin Sheng had always held to this belief:
Every world had value. The civilizations they carried were treasures, and what he needed to do was absorb the essence of the myriad heavens to nourish himself.
Perhaps some worlds were weak, yet certain special things within them could still provide inspiration and direction, bringing enlightenment from zero to one.
Even mortal worlds could occasionally temper one's heart.
"The effect of this first set of Law Secret Patterns is to reduce an enemy's divine-power damage. I'll call it..."
Qin Sheng thought for a moment before naming it:
"It will be called the Wushang Secret Patterns!"
"Before the Mythical Era, there was an Undying King named Wushang in the Foreign Realm. He could nullify an opponent's divine abilities and divine-power damage, making him an overwhelmingly powerful existence even among Immortal Kings."
There were already precedents in the Shrouding the Heavens world showing that special abilities such as damage reduction and damage amplification existed. Qin Sheng was not merely fantasizing.
"I chose to create the Wushang Secret Patterns first partly because of his influence." Qin Sheng felt a sense of longing.
"Although these secret patterns can currently only reduce one-fifth of the divine-power damage dealt by Four Extremes cultivators, far from reaching the level of divine-power immunity."
"But as long as my comprehension of the Great Dao continues to improve, and I keep refining these secret patterns in the future, perhaps one day I may surpass the Undying King Wushang."
Unfortunately, the Undying King Wushang had already been slapped to death by Shi Hao. Otherwise, when that day came, Qin Sheng would have made sure he knew who the true "Wushang" was!
"However, there is also a problem. Each time they endure an attack, the Wushang Secret Patterns suffer wear, and their effect gradually weakens until they are completely erased. At that point, they must be inscribed again."
Qin Sheng began filling in the gaps, considering how his secret patterns could be improved.
"Right now, the Wushang Secret Patterns are inscribed with my divine power. Divine power will eventually be consumed and cannot last forever. If I inscribe the secret patterns with something else, perhaps I can fix them in place and increase the degree of damage reduction."
Qin Sheng sank into thought. What was the best material for inscribing secret patterns?
"First, I'll inscribe the other secret patterns I created and see whether they work."
Qin Sheng had currently created three sets of secret patterns: ones that reduced divine-power, Primordial Spirit, and pure physical damage.
As for things like absolute control and death immunity, he could use them in Douluo Continent, but he still had no clue how to adapt them to Shrouding the Heavens.
Damage reduction and combat-power enhancement could be said to be the easiest fields to approach.
Although the Shrouding the Heavens world itself already possessed these two types of secret arts, that did not mean Qin Sheng's research was redundant.
The secret arts of the Shrouding the Heavens world were active techniques; the secret patterns Qin Sheng had created were passive techniques. Their significance was entirely different.
With the experience of inscribing the first portion of the Wushang Secret Patterns, Qin Sheng's attempts with the other two sets went smoothly. He corrected errors and made modifications along the way, quickly succeeding in inscribing them.
The damage-reduction ratio was about the same as that of the first set of secret patterns. This was the limit of what Qin Sheng could currently achieve.
But the same problem remained: whether he used divine power, spiritual sense, or life essence to inscribe the secret patterns, none could make them permanent. They would suffer wear after being attacked.
If this problem was not resolved, secret patterns might suddenly vanish during future battles.
"In this world, aside from the Immortal Elixir, perhaps only Immortal Metal can truly endure forever."
But using either of those to inscribe secret patterns...
Qin Sheng merely thought about it before shaking his head.
It was not that those two things were bad. Qin Sheng was simply too poor.
"If I can become a Saint, the Saint Dao Laws should also be able to achieve an immortal effect. But that is still rather far away from me."
In fact, when one was in a high-level world, before reaching a sufficiently high realm, one generally only needed to cultivate the techniques and secret arts left behind by predecessors step by step. There was no need to consider creating one's own.
First build a solid foundation. Once one had reached a sufficient height, standing upon the shoulders of one's predecessors to contemplate one's own path would be the better choice.
But Qin Sheng was rather special and could not be judged by ordinary standards.
He existed in multiple worlds simultaneously. More than one of his bodies was at a bottleneck or in an accumulation phase. Under such circumstances, researching other things was instead the better choice.
Not only would it not delay his cultivation in the Shrouding the Heavens world, but he could also improve his comprehension through research.
The more the brain was used, the sharper it became.
"Everything is difficult at the beginning. I've already taken the first step, so there's no reason the rest should stump me. I'll take it slowly."
Qin Sheng sensed the Infinite Land. Though it was somewhat immoral, he truly looked forward to another new version of himself appearing from a higher world. Perhaps it would bring him even greater gains.
