"You..." Kakashi found himself unable to refute him.

No, he could refute him. He had to.

"This is war theory, Naruto." Kakashi's voice dropped, carrying the pressure of a Jonin. "But we are not at war. We are Konoha ninja carrying out a protection mission! Our duty is to protect the client, not incite a revolution here!"

"Then your definition is too narrow-minded, Sensei." Naruto met his gaze without yielding in the slightest. "If a doctor only removed the tumor but allowed the cancer cells to spread through the patient's body, then he would be a failed quack."

He raised a finger and pointed at the deathly silent village beyond the window.

"Gato is the tumor. This country's weakness is the cancer. If we don't cure it at the root, everything we do today will be meaningless."

"B-but they..." Sakura's voice trembled with tears as she looked at Tazuna, collapsed on the floor. She could not imagine such a scene. "They're ordinary people! They only know how to build bridges and fish! You can't... you can't send them to their deaths!"

Naruto glanced at her. There was no contempt in his eyes, only an almost cold calmness.

"They're already dying slowly, Sakura. Rotting away day by day in poverty, hunger, and fear. I'm only giving them a choice—a chance to fight for themselves, to live for their children and grandchildren."

He paused, then turned to Sasuke.

"What do you think, Sasuke?"

That question instantly froze the air in the living room.

Kakashi and Sakura both looked at Sasuke. This was the first time Naruto had openly sought Sasuke's opinion on a tactical decision—and he had done so over Captain Kakashi's head.

Sasuke raised his head. Unrestrained excitement churned in his black eyes.

"Hmph. Makes sense."

He said only three words, yet they were like a blade that completely severed the team's former balance.

He had taken Naruto's side.

Naruto nodded, as if he had received the answer he expected. He no longer paid attention to Kakashi, who stood frozen in place. Instead, he walked straight to the distraught Tazuna, crouched down, and met his eyes.

"Mr. Tazuna, I need a list."

His tone was as casual as if he were discussing tomorrow's breakfast.

"Every man and woman in the village between fifteen and fifty years old. Write down their former occupations too. Blacksmiths are more useful than fishermen, and hunters are more valuable than carpenters. We need to make the best use of everyone."

That tone, which quantified human lives as resources, made Tazuna's teeth chatter. He looked toward Kakashi as if begging for help, his lips moving, but not a single word came out.

"Kakashi-sensei."

Naruto rose to his feet and looked once more at his Jonin instructor.

"Your Sharingan is unmatched in reconnaissance and instruction in advanced combat techniques. I'll select the most capable people, and you'll teach them the basics of setting traps and guerrilla tactics. Your experience is vital to us."

That move made Kakashi's heart sink.

This was neither a request nor a provocation.

It was an unquestionable "appointment." Naruto acknowledged his worth, yet forcibly incorporated him into his own plan and assigned him the most suitable "position."

He—Kakashi, Konoha's battle-hardened elite Jonin, the "Copy Ninja"—had been publicly assigned a role by his own student, a twelve-year-old Genin.

Kakashi looked at the blond boy before him. Naruto was calmly discussing something with Sasuke in a low voice, as though the fate of the entire Land of Waves had already been laid out on his chessboard.

At that moment, Kakashi suddenly realized something.

The mission had gone out of control long ago.

From the moment Naruto tore open his own shoulder, the reins of this team had no longer been in Kakashi's hands.

He was not leading a team of Genin.

He was witnessing a mad transformation launched by his own student.

Late at night, lamplight flickered across the wooden walls of Tazuna's home.

Tazuna trembled as he handed Naruto a rough sheet of paper covered in names.

Naruto took the list without even looking at the bridge builder slumped on the floor. He spread the paper on the table, his finger moving line by line over it.

"Inari, male, eight years old, unemployed. Value: zero."

"Tsunami, female, twenty-nine years old, housewife. Value: logistics."

His tone was like that of someone inventorying goods in a warehouse.

For every name he read, he used the tip of a Kunai to mark a simple symbol beside it.

Kakashi stood to one side, watching Naruto sort more than three hundred living people into three cold categories.

[Core combatants], [support personnel], [logistics support].

Three hundred people were not the entire population of the Land of Waves. Tazuna had merely written a passable "assignment" with the attitude of a student trying to appease his teacher.

But those three hundred people were already enough to stir up a storm as the force for the first mobilization.

This method of classification was efficient, professional, and carried a chilling decisiveness.

Sasuke leaned against the wall, Naruto's silhouette reflected in his dark pupils. He did not feel afraid. Instead, he felt a strange sense of agreement.

This was how the strong should be. Cast aside all useless emotions and focus only on achieving the goal.

Sakura looked at the list. She recognized many of the names on it. They had smiled at her during the day. Now, they had become strings of symbols awaiting assignment.

"Done." Naruto set down the Kunai. "Twelve core combatants, sixty support personnel, and everyone else goes into logistics."

He handed the list to Kakashi.

"Sensei, this is your job. Tomorrow, I'll hand these twelve people over to you and Sasuke."

Kakashi accepted the sheet of paper, feeling as if it weighed a thousand pounds.

He felt Naruto was too rational, rational to the point of being almost cold and ruthless.

Yet he had to admit that this was the most efficient approach.

The next morning, before the sky had fully brightened.

The villagers whose names appeared on the list were summoned to the unfinished bridgehead by Tazuna under the pretext of "discussing important matters concerning the bridge project."

They breathed white mist into the air, tucked their hands into their sleeves, and gathered in twos and threes as they murmured among themselves.

"What happened to the bridge? Wasn't it almost finished?"

"Who knows? Mr. Tazuna looks terrible."

Sasuke stood behind Naruto, one hand resting on his ninja tool pouch, his expression cold. Sakura nervously clutched the hem of her clothes, uneasily watching the frightened crowd around them.

Kakashi leaned against a bridge pier with his hands in his pockets, silently watching everything unfold.

He did not stop it.

Or rather, he wanted to see what Naruto would do.

Naruto stepped onto the highest bridge pier and stood above everyone's line of sight.

He did not speak. He merely looked down calmly at the dense crowd below with those blue eyes.

Panic and unease fermented in the silence.

"Do you think you're building a bridge?"

Naruto's voice was not loud, but it reached every person's ears clearly.

"What you're building is a road to all of your graves."

The crowd instantly erupted.

"What nonsense is this brat spouting?!"

"Get him down from there! What bad luck!"

Naruto ignored the commotion.

"Gato, the true ruler of the Land of Waves. What he wants is not money, nor the right to collect tolls from this bridge."

"What he wants is complete monopoly, absolute control. This bridge is the only hope of breaking his control, so he will destroy it at any cost."

"And after he destroys the bridge?"

Naruto paused, his icy tone crashing down upon every person.

"He'll kill everyone who took part in building it. Then your families, your children. He'll use a massacre to warn everyone who dares resist him."

"The entire village will be erased from the map. Nothing will grow there again."

Despair spread rapidly through the crowd like a plague.

"N-no way..." A young fisherman shouted back, his face flushed red. "We're just ordinary people! As long as we don't resist, why would Gato kill us? All he wants is money!"

"How naive."
