Ch. 381Royal Knight Ceruledge, Elite Four Psyduck
Key plot points and events
- Iron Moth’s Terastallized flames overwhelm Xingye’s team and even make his Tera Orb unusable. Ceruledge joins the fight after Xingye checks on it, and the team coordinates attacks: Iron Bundle disrupts Iron Moth’s cannons, Ceruledge lands a soul-damaging slash, and Marshadow’s surprise attack helps overpower its Flaming Tera Blast.
- Iron Moth fires a final Hyper Beam at Xingye, but Ceruledge deflects it and turns the force into a decisive strike. The defeated Volcarona reverts to its original form, then dissolves into Tera Energy before Xingye can catch it.
- Ceruledge explains that Volcarona—and other strange Pokémon formed from Tera Energy—died roughly two thousand years ago. Polluted Tera Energy can imitate dead Pokémon, revive repeatedly, and drain life; Ceruledge has been destroying these creatures so they can finally rest.
- Ceruledge reveals that it was the Marijoa Empire’s royal knight, sealed inside cursed armor by the queen before the empire vanished. It awoke ten years ago, nearly killed the students who stole it, and was stopped by the mysterious “Psyduck whom nobody can see through.” Boss Slowking later helped it adjust to modern life.
- Volcarona had guarded the Sacrificial Grounds’ treasures. The crystal Xingye took—and then lost—may be connected to the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, a legendary treasure said to grant wishes. Xingye suspects this mystery may also explain Cyclizar’s origins and considers returning to Kitakami.
- Xingye and Ceruledge set out to pursue the person who stole the crystal. The Sacrificial Grounds’ protective domain collapses, and the ancient site is buried. Marshadow detects the thief’s trail, leading the group to the palace ruins, where Xingye recognizes Professor Raifort.
- In a parallel scene, Nemona and Penny identify a massive Great Tusk as the Quaking Earth Titan, but are interrupted by the sound of something approaching.
Character developments and interactions
- Ceruledge moves from fighting alone to trusting Xingye and cooperating with the team. Its history explains its distance from the present and its hostility toward humans; it is also driven by a knight’s loyalty to the dead and by the desire to give corrupted Pokémon peace.
- Xingye learns the truth about Ceruledge, the Tera-made Pokémon, and the ancient empire. His curiosity about the Hidden Treasure becomes personal because of its possible link to Cyclizar. Once he realizes someone manipulated the battle and stole the crystal, his concern turns to anger and pursuit.
- Ceruledge and Volcarona share a bond rooted in their former roles as royal knight and guardian deity. Ceruledge ultimately accepts that the empire is gone and gives Volcarona a respectful farewell.
- Boss Slowking and the unseen Psyduck are revealed as key figures in Ceruledge’s modern life: one offered it work and shelter, while the other prevented its first awakening from becoming a massacre.
- Nemona and Penny work together to identify the Titan, with Nemona eager to fight and Penny checking the book before confirming its identity.
Significant themes
- Duty, loyalty, and letting go: Ceruledge’s loyalty survives the empire’s fall, but it recognizes that its old duty has ended.
- Corruption and release: Polluted Tera Energy turns death into repeated, life-draining imitation; Ceruledge’s sword offers the trapped Pokémon final rest.
- The burden of history: Ceruledge’s memories and the ruined empire show how sharply the ancient world contrasts with the peaceful present.
- Mystery and pursuit: The crystal, the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, Cyclizar’s origins, and Professor Raifort’s appearance deepen the chapter’s central mystery.
