The graduation ceremony ended quickly. The students gradually dispersed, and peace returned to the training grounds. Just as Su Yang was about to leave with Xiao Wu, a familiar voice called from behind them. "Su Yang, Tang San, Xiao Wu, you three, come here."
The three turned around. Yu Xiaorou stood at the entrance to the teaching building, still dressed in her gold-rimmed glasses and high heels, idly leaning against the doorframe with a teacup in hand.
Six years had passed, yet time had left no trace on her face. Instead, she had gained an even more composed and graceful charm than when they had first met.
The three exchanged glances and followed her.
Yu Xiaorou led them into the office, casually shut the door, and got straight to the point.
"Your Soul Power has all surpassed level thirty. Nording Academy has little left to teach you. For the road ahead, you need to continue your studies at a more advanced academy."
Su Yang's heart stirred. It was finally here.
Yu Xiaorou took a sip of tea, her gaze sweeping across their faces.
"I have an old friend who runs an advanced Soul Master Academy called Shrek Academy. He isn't particularly famous, and the academy is rather remote, but I trust his judgment and ability in the Soul Master world. If you're interested, I can write you a letter of recommendation."
The corners of Su Yang's lips curled upward. He could barely suppress the excitement in his heart, but he managed to compose himself and put on a thoughtful expression.
"Shrek Academy? That name is... quite unusual."
Yu Xiaorou raised an eyebrow. "I knew you'd say that. The place is indeed a little rundown, and its rules are strange, but if you can get in and stay for a few years, what you gain won't be any less than at a place like Heaven Dou Royal Academy." She then turned to Tang San. "Tang San, what do you think?"
Tang San fell silent for a moment. Over the past six years, he had gradually emerged from his initial shock and breakdown.
He had seen the absurdity of this world, and he had gritted his teeth and endured all those outrageous plot developments. Now, he could view everything with a relatively calm mindset.
He had not formally taken Yu Xiaorou as his teacher during these six years, but they had maintained quite a good relationship. He had sought her guidance for many problems in his cultivation.
It was precisely because of that relationship that Yu Xiaorou had wanted to recommend him along with them.
He nodded. "I'll follow Teacher Yu's arrangements."
Yu Xiaorou revealed a satisfied smile. "Good. Go back and pack your things. You'll set out in a few days."
When Xiao Wu heard that they were leaving Notting City, he felt no reluctance at all. Instead, he rubbed his hands excitedly. "Boss, does the new academy have food? Will they make sure we're fed?"
Su Yang shot him a speechless glance. "All you ever think about is eating."
Xiao Wu grinned. "Of course. If I can't eat my fill, where am I supposed to get the strength to cultivate?"
Tang San listened from the side, his gaze falling on Xiao Wu's foolishly grinning face as a complicated emotion rose in his heart. Six years had passed, and he had accepted the reality of Xiao Wu becoming a muscular teenage boy.
Although seeing him grin stupidly like that still made Tang San's heart twitch faintly every time, he no longer lay awake night after night like he had in the beginning.
He had long learned to tuck that emotion away and treat it like an old, dried wound. As long as he did not touch it, it would not hurt.
But now that they were going to Shrek Academy, that thought in his heart began to stir again.
The Shrek Seven Devils. That had been one of the most precious memories of his past life. Dai Mubai, Zhu Zhuqing, Ning Rongrong, Ma Hongjun, Xiao Wu, Oscar, and himself.
Those people flashed through his mind, each one as vivid as though he had seen them only yesterday.
He looked forward to reuniting with them. He had already lost one "Xiao Wu"—that girl, that boy, whatever—and he did not want to lose anyone else.
The more Tang San thought about it, the more his head hurt. He silently prayed in his heart. Boss Dai, Zhu Zhuqing, Fatty, Rongrong... please, don't you dare pull anything weird.
Yet even he lacked confidence when he said it. In this world, even Tang Hao had become his mother. What was still impossible?
The weather was excellent on the day they set out. A rented carriage stood outside Nording Academy, and the driver leaned against the carriage shaft with a blade of grass in his mouth, looking bored out of his mind.
Yu Xiaorou stood beside the carriage with a small suitcase in hand. Her gaze swept over the three of them, and her tone was crisp. "Have you packed everything? Then get in."
Xiao Wu carried an enormous bundle stuffed with travel rations and braised meat, grinning broadly. "All packed! Let's go!"
Tang San carried a simple pack on his back and nodded. Just as he was about to climb aboard, he noticed that Su Yang remained where he was. The fellow wore an apologetic smile and scratched the back of his head.
"Um... you go on ahead. I want to visit the orphanage in the east of the city and say goodbye to the director."
Yu Xiaorou was slightly taken aback. "The orphanage?"
"Mm." Su Yang's expression revealed just the right trace of nostalgia. "I grew up there. I'm leaving Notting City now, and I don't know when I'll be back, so I should at least let them know."
The reason was perfectly reasonable. Su Yang had grown up in Notting City without parents and had originally come from the orphanage.
Since he was leaving on a long journey, it was only natural for him to visit the old director. Yu Xiaorou nodded without giving it further thought. "Fine. Catch up after you've said goodbye. We'll meet at Shrek Academy."
Su Yang smiled and agreed. "No problem."
Tang San stood beside the carriage, his gaze lingering on Su Yang's face for a moment longer. This fellow named Su Yang had always felt strange to him over the past six years.
He clearly came from an ordinary background, yet his cultivation speed was astonishingly fast. And he always seemed to make the most appropriate choice at exactly the right time.
But Tang San did not dwell on it. This world was already completely unrecognizable. If Bibi Dong could become a man, and Tang Hao could become his drunken mother, then one more unfathomable Su Yang did not seem all that strange.
He shook his head, suppressed that flicker of doubt, and climbed into the carriage.
The wheels began to roll, carrying them farther and farther away. Su Yang stood where he was, smiling as he waved at the departing carriage until it completely disappeared at the end of the main road.
He lowered his hand. The smile on his face faded inch by inch, as though a mask were slowly being peeled away. Then he turned and walked in the opposite direction.
His pace was neither hurried nor slow, but his destination was clear. Before anyone could react, he needed to obtain the thing that belonged to him.
Tang San was heading to Shrek Academy. Given Tang Hao's nature as a drunken mother, no matter how indifferent she appeared on the surface, she would surely follow in secret to protect him.
After all, he was her only child in this world. That meant the Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Spirit Bone in the back mountains of Holy Soul Village would be left unguarded.
This gap was his opportunity.
