Spirit Medicine: Purple Yuelan
Every forgemaster became immensely excited upon seeing a decent piece of refined iron, and Gao Gan was no exception. Unfortunately, he had nothing worthwhile to offer Lin Yu in exchange.
What Lin Yu thought was that this refined iron would prove useful sooner or later; it was only a matter of time. Even if they could produce better items, he would never trade it away.
Keeping this thing in Lin Yu's hands was not truly safe either. In a place where dragons and snakes were mixed together, trouble was bound to arise sooner or later—now, and even more so in the future.
Before long, Lin Yu sensed two people following him. As for their purpose, he had no idea. He could only take one step at a time; when the right moment came, killing them would not be a bad choice.
Throughout this entire underground trading ground, only great powers could complete a transaction without being followed. Yet there was no helping it. Lin Yu thought so, and many others thought so as well. Lin Yu glanced into the distance, and a purple flower entered his sight.
The poison contained within that flower stirred the blood cells in Lin Yu's body with excitement. He thought, Looks like this trip hasn't been in vain after all. First the three-leaf grass, then this purple flower—but what kind of flower is it? Why have I never seen it before? Forget it. I'll go in and take a look! As soon as he entered, waves of medicinal fragrance rushed toward him.
That medicinal fragrance also carried traces of poisonous vapor. Lin Yu took a look and asked, "Shopkeeper, may I ask what that purple flower-shaped spirit medicine is?"
He truly did not know what it was, nor had he ever seen it recorded in any herbal manual.
"Oh... you mean that flower? It's Purple Yuelan, a rare species. I obtained this flower about a month or two ago. If you like it, little brother, I can sell it to you. It's just that the poison it carries..." The shopkeeper spoke lightly, and Lin Yu smiled upon hearing it.
"Shopkeeper, to tell you the truth, I am indeed somewhat interested in this flower. But the price..." Lin Yu truly wanted to buy it, yet the price of the Purple Yuelan made his heart ache. Even if he emptied his entire fortune, he might only barely be able to afford it.
The shopkeeper looked at the listed price: three thousand four hundred low-grade spirit stones. Few even dared to look at it, let alone buy it. He continued, "How about this? Four hundred spirit stones. Just four hundred. If not for the poison contained within it, I wouldn't sell it so cheaply." Hearing that price, Lin Yu's face immediately lit up with joy.
After handing the spirit stones to the shopkeeper and taking the spirit medicine, Lin Yu sensed that something was wrong. A price of over three thousand had been cut down by such a huge margin—this was not something an ordinary person could do. Lin Yu glanced at it and left directly, worry rising in his heart. If it had merely been a little cheaper, there would have been no problem, but this was far too much at once.
The instant Lin Yu left, three black-clad figures appeared in the shop. The shopkeeper no longer wore the smile he had shown his customers. His face darkened as he said to them, "Go. Kill the cultivator who just took the Purple Yuelan, and seize the things on him." At their master's command, the three moved at once, vanishing in a flash.
"Even a yellow-haired brat dares to lay his hands on something from my Huangpu Shop? What a joke." In the entire underground marketplace, Huangpu Shop had gathered the most unclean goods, and it was the kind of place where things went in but never came out.
Lin Yu being targeted this time was no good thing. All three cultivators were at the Ninth Tier of Body Tempering, only half a step away from entering the Netherpassage Realm. Even Lin Yu felt somewhat helpless.
Purple Yuelan truly seemed troublesome, or things would not have turned out this way. He did not know that those three had been sent by the shopkeeper; as for what would ultimately become of them, that was impossible to say.
Lin Yu glanced over and said, "Since it's come to this, don't blame me for being impolite." He looked again and let out a sigh. He had wandered around this underground marketplace for quite some time, and quite a few cultivators had come to recognize him. Seeing this, Lin Yu also let out a long breath.
He was truly drawing too much attention now. At that moment, an aged voice reached his ears. "Kid, this old man is Cangqiong. In consideration of the life-saving favor of your three drops of essence blood, I can help you settle the trouble you need settled. How about it?"
"Oh? So it's Senior. But they are merely clownish pests leaping about on a beam; there is no need to trouble Senior to act. I, Lin Yu, am confident I can kill them." Confidence shone in Lin Yu's eyes. He said no more, believing the matter would soon be resolved.
"You bear the surname Lin. What is Lin Xuanmu to you?" Cangqiong suddenly asked this, leaving Lin Yu somewhat bewildered. He wondered what relationship this man had with his grandfather.
Though doubts filled his heart, he still answered as before, "He is my grandfather." At that moment, his heart tightened, and he could not shake the feeling that something was about to happen.
"So that's how it is. This is indeed quite interesting. Could it be that your grandfather opened the gates of the Lineage?" Lin Yu did not know how to answer, and merely nodded faintly.
"Since you are his descendant, it seems my intervention would be unnecessary. And since you are confident, this old man shall not interfere in this matter. I also need to find a place to refine those three drops of essence blood, so I shall not accompany you, junior." Lin Yu cupped his hands and watched the senior depart. By the end, he had more or less guessed the relationship between this man and his grandfather.
He made another round through the underground marketplace. Once he had confirmed there was nothing else he needed, he turned and left. There were now no fewer than five people following him. None of the five were weak; what they wanted was likely to kill him and seize the things on his person.
As for who had sent them, he could guess a thing or two. Just as he had said, they were merely clownish pests leaping about on a beam. Since they dared name a price, they had to possess the courage to bear it. Since they wanted to seize his belongings, they could come as they pleased.
The forest in the distance was not bad. It was a place of excellent feng shui, and an even better place to bury the dead. Lin Yu gave it another glance, turned, and ran toward it.
PS: Sorry, I was too tired today and suddenly fell asleep. I'm updating now; please forgive me.
