His search for traffickers brought him back together with Ye Wan, and the arc left him at the Hundred Herbs Garden after an attack, with Qin Ziyan unconscious in his arms.

• Chen Fan woke amid the aftermath of an attack on Golden Wheel Temple, found a dying monk who revealed his name, and escaped with a hidden book and wooden box after setting the temple ablaze.
• Chen Fan reached Swordcry Mountain, passed its entrance assessment, and joined the outer sect, where Ye Wan gave him a Swordheart Hall token after teaching him swordsmanship.
• Chen Fan found two snake eggs in a cave, then helped Qin Ziyan survive a giant serpent’s venom and returned with her to the sect.
• Chen Fan strengthened his cultivation by using poison, studied at the Scripture Pavilion, raised the snakes Eastern Evil and Western Poison, and later left the mountain to travel.

Chen Fan investigated the missing children and stolen treasures, rescued Luo Gang’s poisoned son, and entered the inner court as Yun Zhongjun’s disciple. Liu Wushuang connected the crimes to the Heaven and Earth Gate and suspected Shi Dehao, while Chen Fan was attacked on his way back to the sect.

• Chen Fan investigated the West Ridge prince’s disappearances and learned that a deputy leader of the Falcon Gang was supplying stolen treasures to the Heaven and Earth Gate for a powerful cultivator.
• Chen Fan met Hua Yuewu and Yang Dawei while searching the mountain, then followed Yun Zhongjun into a cave where Spirit-Drunken Incense weakened them and Chen Fan overcame the masked attacker.
• Chen Fan helped Yun Zhongjun recover and carried him back toward Swordcry Mountain, escaping Bai Shuang’s assault with the Soaring Art before Wu Xu escorted him to safety.
