Crossing the River (Part Two)

All things gave rise to and restrained one another. Each held something of the other, and so nature found its order. Life could grow even in the harshest environments.

Every species occupied a place in the ecosystem and served a particular purpose. They depended on one another, held one another in check, and evolved together.

How did that saying go again?

Heaven laid out the five elements to move all creation; humans received the five constants and thus possessed five organs!

This Otherworld was utterly unlike Earth. Besides the energy of the five elements, it held all manner of strange energies. Yet by and large, it still followed the principle that the five elements gave rise to and restrained one another.

For instance, near a fiercely poisonous plant, one could usually find another toxin that counteracted its poison. Er Dongsheng had lived in the Abyss for years, and though his body had remarkable resistance, he still sometimes encountered terrifying toxins he could not expel. He had learned to use poison against poison with extraordinary skill.

This was a sea of flames, like the legendary eight-hundred-li domain of fire. Though the conditions were harsh, plants and animals survived here, evolving all sorts of abilities to adapt. The principle of mutual creation and restraint was on full display!

Nature's greatness was everywhere.

Compared with the forest of flames reaching toward the sky, the vast river of magma before them was crueler still. Its terrifying heat could
