Leaves rustled all around, and strange beast cries sounded now and then from deep within the forest.
Beside a campfire, Emma huddled close to Isabella, a flicker of fear in her eyes.
Isabella, young as she was, remained remarkably calm. Not a trace of panic showed on her face as she turned the emerald Wizard Tree Leaf over in her hands, lost in thought.
Fine black lines spread across the leaf, unseen by anyone.
