Ch. 761Gathering Storm
Plot points and events
- Xia Yuqing insists she only brought Lords Zitang and Yan Ran somewhere to wait because Feng Tingye was occupied with the Empress Dowager. Feng Tingye, mostly recovered from his anger, has already worked out that the lords’ accusations were false.
- Rather than tell her immediately, he pretends to doubt her and uses the supposed need for “proof” as an excuse to pin her down.
- Xia Yuqing fights back with threats, a flying quilt, and repeated attempts to kick him. Their struggle turns into a comic standoff around the bed, alarming the servants outside.
- Feng Tingye finally reveals that he knew the lords were lying: Zitang dislikes being treated like a child, while Yan Ran resents remarks about his looks. Their claims were retaliation for Xia Yuqing offending them.
- Xia realizes Feng Tingye was teasing her too. He denies “playing” her, then admits he was teasing, leaving her exasperated.
Character developments
- Xia Yuqing is defensive but spirited, improvising excuses and physically resisting Feng Tingye rather than meekly submitting. Her schemes to bring the lords together have backfired, leaving her indignant.
- Feng Tingye shows that he can read the situation and trusts his own judgment, but he enjoys provoking Xia Yuqing and turning jealousy into flirtatious play.
- Zitang and Yan Ran, though absent, are shown to hold petty grievances and unite in teasing Xia Yuqing.
