Ch. 101Pursuit (Thanks to Mist Rising over Green Cliffs for the reward!)
Chapter Summary: “Pursuit”
Key Plot Points and Events
- Golden Horn overwhelms Wu Gu, a ninth-order Sector Lord, and two first-order Sector Lords in a three-on-one battle. Their coordinated attacks fail to suppress him because of his immense physical strength, powerful attack amplitude, and the protection of his Army Breaker Battle Armor.
- Wu Gu realizes that Golden Horn’s combat ability far exceeds that of an ordinary third-order Sector Lord. Unable to withstand the assault, he sends an emergency distress signal to the Qiu Shi Race command center.
- The Qiu Shi command interprets the situation as evidence that a World Lord-level enemy may have entered their rear lines. Worried that the Demon Race may be preparing a decisive battle, they rapidly reassess the battlefield.
- Walu, a sixth-order World Lord, decides to personally investigate. At Do’en’s recommendation, he summons the World Lords of the Machine Race and Katu Race to accompany him, while Do’en remains behind to coordinate command and support.
- Walu orders the Qiu Shi front-line forces to advance as the three World Lords depart. This is intended to test whether the Demon Race’s World Lords will react and to reveal their strategic intentions.
- Unaware that his presence has triggered major changes across the battlefield, Golden Horn continues enjoying his overwhelming advantage. He increases the intensity of his attacks, crippling one of the first-order Sector Lords by destroying his leg.
- The remaining Qiu Shi fighters abandon the battle and flee toward their defensive line. Golden Horn is briefly surprised—his previous opponents had always fought directly—but immediately gives chase.
- During the pursuit, Golden Horn discovers that his speed, acceleration, and turning ability are inferior to Wu Gu’s. He compensates by repeatedly using long-range claw projections to force Wu Gu to slow down and evade, preventing him from escaping completely.
- The chase becomes a prolonged tug-of-war. Wu Gu and the surviving Sector Lord continue sending distress signals while desperately trying to reach safety.
Character Developments
- Golden Horn: Demonstrates that his true combat strength is far beyond what his nominal cultivation level suggests. He shifts from merely fighting defensively to deliberately increasing his power and crushing his opponents. His enjoyment of the battle highlights his confidence and aggressive nature. However, he recognizes a weakness in his lack of effective long-range attacks and resolves to obtain a suitable weapon.
- Wu Gu: Changes from an attacking commander into a desperate survivor. His sharp judgment allows him to recognize Golden Horn’s abnormal strength early and call for reinforcements, but he is ultimately forced to flee.
- Sky Swallower: Serves as Golden Horn’s alert and tactical companion, warning him about battlefield developments and commenting humorously on his villain-like behavior.
- Walu and Do’en: Reveal the Qiu Shi Race’s cautious but decisive military leadership. Walu personally intervenes when the threat appears too dangerous for ordinary Sector Lords, while Do’en maintains strategic coordination from the rear.
Significant Themes
- Hidden strength and mistaken identity: Golden Horn appears to be only a third-order Sector Lord, but his actual combat power is strong enough to suppress higher-level opponents and trigger a response from multiple World Lords.
- Battlefield consequences: A single powerful combatant can destabilize an entire front line. Golden Horn’s arrival creates a “butterfly effect,” forcing both sides to reconsider their larger strategies.
- Pursuit and tactical limitations: Winning a direct confrontation does not guarantee the ability to eliminate fleeing enemies. Golden Horn’s speed disadvantage exposes the importance of mobility and ranged attacks.
- Psychological warfare and shifting morale: The Qiu Shi fighters’ confidence collapses once Golden Horn intensifies his attacks, turning an organized siege into a panicked retreat.
- Escalation toward decisive conflict: The Qiu Shi command interprets Golden Horn’s strength as a possible sign of a larger Demon Race offensive, prompting the deployment of World Lords and movement along the entire front line.
Character Interactions
- Wu Gu and the two Sector Lords attempt coordinated attacks but cannot break through Golden Horn’s defense.
- The injured Sector Lord asks Wu Gu whether reinforcements have been summoned, revealing their growing desperation.
- Golden Horn overhears their private communication and orders Sky Swallower to monitor possible reinforcements.
- Sky Swallower warns Golden Horn that the Demon Race command has detected unusual Qiu Shi activity, but Golden Horn dismisses the danger and declares that his warm-up is over.
- Do’en advises Walu to bring additional World Lords, preventing Walu from entering a possible ambush alone.
- During the retreat, Golden Horn taunts the fleeing enemies in a playful, predatory manner, while Sky Swallower jokingly observes that he sounds like a villain.
