Background / History

Ninth Young Master is an extraordinarily powerful, man-eating monster with a gigantic blue-black true form 1. He first appears during a violent storm in a ruined temple, where he brutally slaughters two pursuing Taoists, tearing one apart and crushing the head of another, before roasting and eating their corpses 1. When Li Yunxin is cornered in the temple, Ninth Young Master spares him on a whim, intrigued by Li Yunxin's unusual destiny, composure, and lack of revulsion 1.

The monster later responds to a spiritual summoning by Li Yunxin in the woods, effortlessly executing four constables and decapitating Constable Xing Li with a single motion 5. Though cruel, capricious, and predatory, he is easily entertained, curious about unusual human behavior, and sensitive to spiritual energy 1 5 6. He tells Li Yunxin that he now "owes him a life" and promises to return and consume him whenever he becomes bored 6. Later, powerful demons like Bai Yunxin and her maid actively search for him, referring to him familiarly as "Little Nine" 24.
