Meng Zu felt his body topple backward out of his control. He hurriedly adjusted himself and stood up, only to see another version of himself sitting perfectly fine on the meditation cushion.
"Was this an out-of-body experience?"
Meng Zu raised his hands and examined himself in astonishment. His body had become translucent, and he felt weightless. He tried making himself float, and to his surprise, his feet actually left the ground.
"Don't move around. Having your soul leave your body can easily cause problems." Mage Daniel stood up, walked over, grabbed Meng Zu's arm, and pulled him from the air back to the ground.
An out-of-body experience was something Meng Zu had never experienced before, and he was filled with curiosity. "What kind of problems?"
"The soul is the most important thing for every person. Normally, a soul cannot leave its body. Only after someone dies does their soul separate from the body and go where it is supposed to go. Occasionally, a living person may experience their soul leaving their body. Since they are not dead, there is still a connection between the soul and the body, and the soul will eventually return to the body through instinctive guidance."
"However, the farther the soul gets from the body, the weaker that connection becomes. Some people get lost and don't know how to return, eventually becoming truly dead. And that's not all. If a soul happens to encounter an evil dark wizard or demon, it would be a gift delivered right to their door. You can imagine what would happen then."
Meng Zu was a little frightened. "Mage Daniel, then why did you knock my soul out?"
Mage Daniel smiled. "Didn't you want to solve your energy problem? This is the way."
"Other than feeling weightless, I don't feel anything at all!" Meng Zu said in confusion.
"You have no talent for magic, which is why I needed to pull your soul out of your body so I could guide you." As he spoke, Mage Daniel's soul walked directly out of his body.
"It's starting!"
Mage Daniel placed a hand on Meng Zu's shoulder. Meng Zu instantly felt as though he had been tossed into a washing machine, his entire body tumbling wildly up and down beyond his control.
A series of bizarre scenes flashed rapidly before his eyes. When he finally managed to steady himself, he discovered that he had arrived in a dazzlingly colorful world.
Calling this world dazzlingly colorful was not a metaphor. The entire world was made up of rays of light in countless colors. Those lights drifted like mist. Meng Zu had no idea how vast this world was; everywhere he looked, whether before him or in the distance, was filled with those lights.
"Mage Daniel, where are we?" Meng Zu asked curiously.
"This is a world formed from Dimensional Energy."
Dimensional Energy? He had heard of it often, but he had never understood what it actually was. So Meng Zu remained silent and waited for Mage Daniel to explain.
"Every spell in the world is powered by energy. Different spells use different forms of energy. For example, the energy used by the priests in the church comes from the Heaven Dimension, while most demons draw their energy from the Hell Dimension. Magic communicates with these dimensions to obtain energy, then uses it in a particular way."
"The Sorcerer Supreme told me that the energy on you is very special. It isn't power from any common dimension, and that is why you have no talent for magic. This Dimensional Energy World is special as well. It attracts some energy from nearly every dimension. Whether it is common dimensional energy or unusual dimensional energy, the special energy you need should be here."
Meng Zu said in surprise, "Mage Daniel, does that mean that through this Dimensional Energy World, we can use any spell we want?"
"No." Mage Daniel shook his head with a smile. "The energy in this world is far too mixed. If you want to use magic through this world, you would have to deliberately search for the dimensional energy you need. That would take too much time. It is better to communicate with the dimension directly and obtain energy from it."
"I see." Meng Zu understood. It was like the difference between a specialty store and a shopping mall. In a mall, you had to search for the brand you wanted, while at a specialty store, you could simply buy it directly.
Mage Daniel said to Meng Zu, "Now calm yourself and feel the energy around you. Draw upon the energy within you and see which energy it attracts."
Draw upon energy? Damn it, I'm in soul form right now. How am I supposed to use my skills?
Meng Zu said awkwardly, "Mage Daniel, I'm only in soul form right now. How can I draw upon the energy in my body?"
"Energy is not stored within the body. It exists outside both the soul and the body. The body merely allows you to use energy more effectively. Even in soul form, you can use energy." Mage Daniel demonstrated. With a wave of his hands, a magical shield appeared in his grasp.
Meng Zu tried opening the system panel. Huh, it actually opened. Yet Mage Daniel beside him was unable to see Meng Zu's system panel.
All right, then I'll use a skill. But the moment Meng Zu looked at the skill panel, he was dumbfounded.
Multifunctional Bullets required actual bullets. Teleportation? But he had set the teleportation point in the basement of his house. If his soul teleported back, what would happen to his body? Leap of Faith? He was already floating. Where was he supposed to jump?
Wait, perhaps Clue Guidance was worth trying. He thought, Who is a mage of Kamar-Taj? Instantly, 20 points of energy were consumed, and a red arrow appeared above Mage Daniel's head.
The skill had been used, and energy had been consumed, but nothing happened around him. Only then did Meng Zu realize that he had no idea how to sense energy. The system gave him this energy; he only knew how to use it, not how to create it.
Seeing Meng Zu look at him in confusion, Mage Daniel smiled. "Wait a little. You have too little energy, so it will take some time."
Since Mage Daniel had said so, Meng Zu could only wait patiently. After a while, he sensed something unusual in his right index finger. A mist-like energy that constantly shifted colors slowly flowed into his body.
At the same time, Meng Zu saw the 40 points of energy on his system panel recovering one point at a time. It soon returned to 60 points. After it had fully recovered, the energy unexpectedly became 61 after a while. By the time all of that mist-like energy had entered his body, his energy had reached 65 points.
His energy limit had increased, making Meng Zu very happy. He asked in delighted surprise, "Mage Daniel, what dimension does this energy come from?"
Mage Daniel thought for a moment, then shook his head. "I don't recognize it either. Perhaps the Sorcerer Supreme knows. I'll ask him later."
"Mm!"
"Now I'll make a mark for communicating with this world. In the future, you will be able to absorb this energy through this mark."
A trace of the energy Meng Zu had just absorbed rested on Mage Daniel's fingertip. He pressed that finger against Meng Zu's brow, forming a small magic circle. That trace of energy merged into it, and then the magic circle vanished.
"All right, now it's time for us to go back."
