Ch. 181Dumplings (4k)
Chapter Summary: “Dumplings”
Key Plot Points and Events
- Hu Yang plans the evening’s chores, but Gengar learns he is making dumplings and insists on sharing because they are family.
- Two Squirtle return from their work at the fire department, tired and lightly burned after rescuing a Skitty. Hu Yang treats their injuries with Burn Heal.
- The Squirtle give Hu Yang their treasured piggy banks, containing the money they saved to thank him. Though he does not need it, he accepts the gift as a token of their affection.
- Hu Yang makes over a hundred dumplings with mushroom-and-pork and chive-and-egg fillings. Gengar loves the meat dumpling but strongly dislikes the chives, so Hu Yang promises to give it only the filling it prefers.
- He prepares additional food—Pokéblocks, berry pie, cake, and juice—for Pokémon who may not enjoy dumplings.
- While the Pokémon eat, Hu Yang checks on the inhabitants of the Ecological Park: the Slowpoke, Oddish, Relicanth, Magikarp, Squirtle, Flygon, and Krookodile.
- Hu Yang notices that the sandy habitat for Flygon and Krookodile is small compared with a real desert and resolves to expand it.
- He outlines his plans for the following day: making Charmeleon a meteorite nest, visiting Professor Birch to activate his Pokédex, and observing Brendan as the Hoenn story begins.
- Exhausted, Hu Yang falls asleep on the sofa. The Pokémon quietly work together to move him to bed without waking him. Gardevoir uses Teleport to place him in his room, while Gengar covers him with a blanket.
- Gengar stays behind to wash the dishes, hoping Hu Yang will be pleased by its helpfulness. Slowking also spends the night reading agriculture books.
Character Developments
- Hu Yang continues acting as a caring guardian and provider. He treats the Squirtle’s injuries, cooks for everyone, checks on the Ecological Park’s residents, and thinks about improving their habitats.
- Gengar becomes increasingly domestic and responsible. It worries about Hu Yang’s wellbeing, helps organize the other Pokémon, and independently washes the dishes.
- The Squirtle show courage through their fire-department work and deep gratitude toward Hu Yang by giving him their savings.
- Gardevoir demonstrates its powerful Psychic abilities by safely teleporting Hu Yang to bed.
- Slowking shows growing initiative and intelligence by studying agriculture.
- Flygon and Krookodile appear content in their new home, though Hu Yang recognizes their enclosure may need improvement.
