The melted ice cream dripped onto her hand.
She wolfed down the four large scoops of ice cream, then picked up the tissue she had set aside and wiped her hands.
"I understand. I'll do my best to teach you."
"Won't you come with us, Senior? Let's have some ice cream together?" Huali asked.
"You go ahead. Canary was my old codename. You're not allowed to call me Little Canary," Fu You said.
"Okay, Senior! Um, do you have some kind of conflict with Huang Xing? Should I avoid them?" Huali asked again.
Fu You stood up and slipped her hands back into her pockets.
"She's still young and doesn't understand much. You should judge right and wrong for yourself. I might not be a good person either."
"Okay, Senior."
"I don't like acting in groups. Your ability will work better around them. Get along with them."
After saying that, Fu You turned and walked away.
Huali watched her retreating figure and waved. "Goodbye, Senior!"
"..."
We see each other every day. Isn't saying goodbye now a little too cheesy?
The sun blazed high in the sky.
For a creature of darkness to be out at a time like this was truly unbearable.
Time to go home.
When she returned to her residence, the little room was pitch-dark.
The drawn curtains blocked out the light well, leaving the room dim and gloomy.
There was a faint musty smell in the room. It was not that anything had gone moldy; old air conditioners always gave off some odor in the summer. She only needed to turn on the AC.
There was not much in the room to begin with, and she usually did not eat at her residence.
She had not lived here long enough for the place to rot and stink.
She turned on the air conditioner, and cold air slowly filled the room.
She took off her pants and climbed onto the bed with her bare legs.
She still did not turn on the lights, instead lying comfortably on the bed.
In her own little nest, no one cared what kind of person she really was.
She took out the Witch Black Crystal and examined it carefully in her hand.
If the Witch had not been sent by Jiang Ke'an, then where had she come from? And why had she run into her in the stairwell?
Calling it a coincidence did not seem plausible.
The class bell had already rung, yet the Witch had appeared in the stairwell. She had clearly been looking for her deliberately.
If her target had merely been Magical Girls, there was not enough reason for her to find Fu You specifically. There were more Magical Girls in the school building better suited as targets. The only difference between her and those Magical Girls was that her wristband had gone off and drawn the Witch's attention, wasn't it?
Who had deliberately wanted to target her? And what was their purpose?
First of all, not many people knew who she had been before becoming a Magical Girl.
If it were someone who knew her background, they would never do something like this. She was no longer truly a Witch, but she still had countless ties to them. It was not something she could simply sever by saying so.
She could not lay a hand on members of the Witches' Society she knew and held no grudges against.
Even if they belonged to the Witch faction while she now belonged to the Magical Girl faction, she could choose to turn a blind eye instead of having to attack them.
She only needed to fulfill her quota. She did not care about anything else.
The Abyss Witch had said that Jiang Ke'an had told quite a few people about her identity—at least ten.
Those ten people who knew her identity might come looking for her, but they would never come to cause trouble.
What would be the point of causing trouble for her? Killing her? Killing her would not benefit the Witches' Society in the slightest.
Witches were not Fierce Beast mobs that could be spawned anywhere. Cultivating a controllable Witch required the Witches' Society to pour in enormous effort. Sending such a Witch to meet her was the same as pelting someone with cash—stack after stack of it.
Since it was not the local Witches' Society, had a Witches' Society from another city made a move?
Jiang Ke'an would never send such a weak Witch to die.
If it had been Jiang Ke'an, there would not have been only one Witch, nor would she have let the Witch die so easily.
When the Special Incident Response Department investigated the Witch, the most likely conclusion would be that a Witch from another city had appeared in the school building and attempted to attack ordinary people, only to be successfully killed through the Magical Girls' efforts. What a cause for celebration.
As for where the Witch had come from, the Special Incident Response Department would never be able to figure it out.
How could they possibly understand what Witches were thinking? They only cared about their own lives and their own performance records.
By all rights, she should know more than the Special Incident Response Department did.
No matter how she thought about it, she found no clues.
One Witch appearing out of nowhere did not prove anything.
That was fine too. She had not originally planned to collect Black Crystals, but if a Witch delivered one to her doorstep, there was no reason to refuse it.
Those Magical Girls did have some ability, but a fourth-stage Witch was not something those careless girls could handle.
Any Witch with a little skill possessed the ability to create a domain. If a domain had not appeared, then the Witch had not entered the final stage. Domains took many different forms, and many Magical Girls could not even tell what counted as a domain.
Of course, once a domain appeared, it could basically be determined that the Witch had reached the end of the road.
After deploying a domain, a Witch's magic power would rapidly drain away. Most Witches' domains could not last even an hour before vanishing.
Letting them use the Witch for training was already merciful of her. Taking the largest Black Crystal, she naturally felt nothing was wrong with that. It had been hers for the taking from the start. If she had not held back, those Magical Girls would never have gotten a chance to act.
With nothing better to do, she leaned against the bed and started playing on her phone.
The match-three game she used to pass the time was boring to play, but it was quite effective at killing time.
Before long, Black Card sent her a message.
Black Card had once been her subordinate and was also a member of the Witches' Society.
Even though Fu You was no longer a Witch, Black Card still diligently provided her with services.
After all, Fu You had spared Black Card's life. Black Card was loyal to her, not the Witches' Society.
The Abyss Witch had already given Black Card the list of the ten people who knew Fu You's background. Fu You did not take it to look over herself, merely telling Black Card to keep an eye on those ten people's movements.
She was not some indiscriminate killer. There was no need to truly start a massacre over something like this. As long as they did not come out and cause trouble, that was enough.
"I've already found out. The Witch who appeared today came from neighboring Inksea City. Her name is the Black Stockings Witch, a newly risen Witch from the past two years. Her original form was the Magical Girl White Dove. Her ability allows her to transform into hair and merge with a target's body, replacing the target's existence."
Compared with the Special Incident Response Department, the Witches' Society naturally had a far clearer grasp of Witches from within.
"A Witch from Inksea City—why did she come here?"
"I heard the Witches' Society in Inksea City has been making some questionable moves lately. They may want to annex Jiangyang City."
"Annex Jiangyang City?"
Fu You curled her lip.
The Witches' Society was not a unified whole. So-called annexation referred to annexation at the level of the Witches' Society.
How arrogant was the Witches' Society in Inksea City?
"Keep investigating."
It would be best if that did not happen.
She had already met her quota for this month. Even if something was going to happen, couldn't it wait until next month?
