No one knew what kind of place the legendary man-eating island was.
All they knew was that it had appeared on the Grand Line six months ago, a massive island that wandered from place to place. Anyone who dared approach it, Marine or Pirates, was eaten and never returned.
At first, Drake had thought the ignorant people of the first half of the Grand Line had mistaken some giant Sea King for an island and made a fuss over nothing.
But after seeing it with his own eyes, he had come to believe the legend.
He had felt its terrifying presence on a day when the Warship under his command had sailed into a foggy stretch of sea and lost its bearings.
As the Warship pushed through the endless mist, something suddenly hurled it out of the water. Fortunately, a Marine warship was no ordinary wooden Pirates ship, and it survived the fall without breaking apart.
Drake had thought they had struck a wave or a reef and was standing on deck, assessing the damage. Then he saw an enormous shadow glide slowly past, almost brushing the Warship. Through the thick fog, he could just make out lush green vegetation behind it.
The Warship's mast had snapped, and its turbines had not yet started, so Drake knew for certain that the ship was stationary.
It really was an island that could move!
That encounter had finally convinced Drake the legend was true. Wary of the island, he had ordered no one ashore. Once they found their bearings, they sailed out of the fog with their hearts in their throats.
