All eyes in the country were now on Alubarna. Within minutes, news of the riots had spread throughout Alabasta.
"Report! King Cobra has been killed by an unidentified assailant. The city has no one in command, and large-scale riots have broken out across Alubarna. Most of the defenders have abandoned the walls."
The leader Baroque Works had planted among the rebels was overjoyed by the messenger's report. He drew the long blade at his waist and shouted, "Brothers! Cobra's been killed! Charge with me!"
What?!
Cobra was dead?
Countless soldiers looked up at him in bewilderment, hardly believing their ears.
Hadn't they drilled day and night, gone hungry, and trained themselves to exhaustion for the chance to storm the capital, drag Cobra out through the gates, and execute him before the people?
Why had he suddenly died?
And weren't they citizens of Alabasta? If the man responsible was already dead, why were they still attacking Alubarna?
Some couldn't make sense of it. But almost everyone around them was charging forward, and they were swept along with the army.
They were in the minority, though. Most of the soldiers understood as soon as they heard their commander's order.
Alabasta was about to change!
Alabasta's underground royal tomb lay within the capital, only a short distance from the Royal Palace. Few would have imagined that the kingdom's most mysterious place lay beneath this unremarkable patch of sand. The city patrols passed over it every day; it was hardly a deserted spot.
