There was an island here rich in resources. Dense jungle covered it, and birds and beasts roamed in abundance. It was a rare, fertile island untouched by human interference.
The beasts on the island were so dangerous that few people wanted to live there, and its population had never grown much. That had helped preserve its beautiful environment, though Shanks's orders had played an even greater part.
"Protect this place. We'll hold our parties here from now on!"
That was what Shanks had said the first time he set foot on the island.
Easygoing and generous by nature, he rarely stood on ceremony. His clothes and manner were often casual, yet even he had been captivated by the island at first sight.
And as one of the New World's Yonko, he hardly needed to deal personally with the Supernovas who stirred up trouble year after year. With plenty of time to spare, Shanks often held parties on the island, drinking and singing to his heart's content.
This party had already been going for three days, and by their reckoning, it would last at least another week. But something unexpected had happened today, bringing it to an end.
Because they came here often, Shanks had built a few essential facilities on the island.
There was a cellar for fine wine and a Kitchen stocked with seasonings and cookware. Of course, there were also living quarters and an operating room for emergencies.
Once they were building anything at all, digging only a wine cellar would have felt strange. At Benn Beckman's insistence, the island had gained all those basic facilities.
