The fighting inside the Corrida Colosseum was raging.
Led by Rebecca, the slave Sword Fighters branded as criminals and imprisoned in the colosseum were locked in a fierce battle with the Donquixote Family's soldiers.
In a straight fight, any one of these playthings of the arena's killing games could take on ten soldiers. But they could only get their hands on weapons meant for gladiators. Against row after row of soldiers armed with deadly muskets, they spent most of their time taking fire.
"Damn it! Can someone figure out how to break through? At this rate, they'll surround us!"
As the slave Sword Fighters spoke, a large force of soldiers appeared in the passage behind them. There was no time to blame the man who had jinxed them. Several Sword Fighters raised shields and covered their companions.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Musket balls hammered against the shields, spraying bright sparks.
The immediate danger had passed, but their situation was still dire!
Even so, the Sword Fighters refused to give up. Gritting their teeth, they fought on, searching for any chance to escape.
At the center of their formation, a pink-haired girl in a helmet styled after those of ancient Roman soldiers stood with her eyes closed, sensing every movement around her.
She was Rebecca, a descendant of King Riku—and the reason they had dared to attempt an escape tonight.
