Lola thought it over, still clinging to a sliver of hope. She and Big Mom were mother and daughter, after all. She couldn't believe Big Mom felt no affection for her at all.
But when Lola told Big Mom what had happened, Big Mom barely reacted. She merely nodded and said, "I see. Why make such a fuss over something so minor? You were never indispensable. Blackbeard wants you and has agreed to marry into our family. That's good for you and for us. You can count it as your contribution to the Charlotte Family. What could you possibly be unhappy about?"
Big Mom glanced sideways at Lola, her expression cold and her tone cutting. "You sailed around with your Proposal Pirate Crew, asking people to marry you. Haven't you learned anything? Blackbeard is willing to take you. Whatever his methods, you should count yourself lucky. Otherwise, you could go your whole life without a man wanting you!"
Tears welled in Lola's eyes. Big Mom had spared her no kindness and had humiliated her without mercy.
Lola held herself together and forced back her tears. "Mom, can't you see? Blackbeard has no good intentions in marrying me. He's an ambitious man. He'll turn on you sooner or later!"
"Oh?" Big Mom snorted and laughed dismissively. "Since I won't help you, you're trying to turn me against him? Even if Blackbeard does have an ulterior motive, gahaha... what do I have to fear? He's one of the Four Emperors, but so am I!"
