The members of the Shadow Society looked at one another, all equally bewildered.
This was an assembly Sandrew had suddenly convened. Aside from Shadow Elder, everyone was required to attend.
The assembly had come out of nowhere, with no prior warning. No one knew its true purpose—except Li Ziran, of course.
Sandrew moved quickly, convening the assembly at the first opportunity.
It had to be said that Sandrew had been thorough. He had sold off the entirety of Corpse Mountain, leaving behind only this tiny Assembly Hall.
Everyone watched Sandrew in confusion. At such a critical juncture in the Embryo trade, this assembly was truly difficult to comprehend.
Rhine Duke was the most puzzled of all. Over the past month, as the Embryo trade had risen, his position had steadily climbed, and he had even begun to show signs of surpassing Sandrew.
Could he have sensed it?
Rhine Duke pondered inwardly. Perhaps his recent moves had been too conspicuous and had put Sandrew on guard.
Yet from beginning to end, Sandrew had not even glanced at him.
As the final teleportation glow faded, the Assembly Hall was completely sealed. Sandrew's calm expression gradually softened, and he smiled at everyone. "No need to worry, everyone. There is nothing major about this assembly. Our Embryo trade is very stable, and Soul Plasma is flowing in without end. This is the best time our Shadow Society has ever had."
The others nodded and smiled back. Everyone present was a shrewd old hand; naturally, none of them took the opening pleasantries seriously. The true substance of a meeting often came after the word "but."
