Jones was looking at him as well, but there was not the slightest trace of a living being's intelligence in his eyes—only pure contempt, as though Li Ziran were an insignificant ant before him.

Li Ziran pressed himself against him and landed atop his eye. Jones's eyelid twitched, as if trying to brush away such an ant.
But the instant the eyelid descended, it seemed to be propped open by two matchsticks.
They were not matchsticks, but Corpse Witches.
These were no ordinary Corpse Witches. They were Super Corpse Witches formed by fusing with Lan Element, their shells already strong enough to meet the standard of a Devouring Serpent.
Corpse Witches needed no intelligence and were the best candidates for fusing with Lan Element. They could no longer really be called Corpse Witches; they were more like zombies among the undead.
