The Golden Lion Grand Duke stared at the message before him in silence.
He had only just received it. His closest friend had obtained it in an exchange with a human Harpy from the Dungeon: if he could supply her with mages from the Dark Tower, she would give him detailed information about the Light Organ.
The Dark Tower, known as the most unusual tower of the Human Race, ranked thirteenth among its many magic towers. It recruited only mages who possessed a Dark Element Gland.
Dark Element was exceedingly rare among humans. Of all the mages who emerged each year, only one percent awakened a Dark Element Gland.
To encourage balance among human mages, the Triangle Council had even offered special rewards, urging more people to explore dark magic.
Yet the Dark Tower's numbers remained discouraging. Current estimates placed its membership at around five hundred, with a pitiful twenty-three Magisters and only two Archmages.
Compared with the splendor of the other towers, those numbers were truly pathetic.
What troubled the Golden Lion Grand Duke was how to proceed. The Dark Tower stood in the remote northeastern region of human territory. A direct assault would not be difficult, but he could not use the Golden Griffins. Even if he succeeded, he would be branded a traitor to his race.
Treason meant immediate suppression and judgment of the soul, regardless of rank or status.
But he had to do this. He had to meet Li Ziran now.
