Hellfires and Harpies occupied the skies, while Flame Monsters and Dark Giant Bears blazed a dark trail across the ground. Even underground, Spiked Beetles accompanied by Vampire Mosquitoes kept bursting out of the earth like carp, leaping forward.

The creatures of the Wasteland kept retreating. To them, this was a flood, a horde of savage beasts, monsters that devoured everything.

Stonefolk, Cyclopes, Dwarves carrying stone pillars, and powerful, gray-black Dwarves.

Not one of them was ordinary. They babbled away, desperately jostling for space like salmon on a spring outing, crowding onto the path the Dark Giant Bears had opened.

One spectral Ghost after another materialized. Bodiless, like invisible jellyfish, they laughed and flew freely through the air. Whenever they got carried away, they would peel open their bellies to reveal hollow skins. Occasionally, they plucked off fragments and huddled together, seemingly trying to transplant them into one another.

Above their heads, a classroom kept appearing.

These Ghosts seemed unable to control their memories. Or perhaps this was simply how they communicated.

But to the creatures of the Wasteland, these images were utterly unimaginable.

The Dark Mages began to appear, surrounded by Skeletons. They swayed from side to side along the passage carved out by the Dark Giant Bears, making hollow clattering sounds like a marching percussion band.

They were unusual, too. Some of the bones beneath their bellies were thick, others thin, clearly freshly scavenged from some other creatures.
