Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, it was the day school officially began.
The doors to the white teaching building stood open as the new students filed in wearing white uniforms. On every student's left chest was a green little monster badge representing Shrek Academy.
The uniforms differed by grade: white for First Grade, yellow for Second and Third Grade, purple for Fourth and Fifth Grade, and black for Sixth Grade, corresponding to the colors of Soul Rings.
He had arrived early, so no one fought him for a seat. He strolled into the first classroom on the left side of the first floor and casually chose a window seat in the back row.
From his seat, he could see Poseidon Path outside the window. It was spring, and the Main road was lined with beautiful flowers in every color. It was far more interesting than being imprisoned in a classroom.
Before long, a smug-looking figure entered. With short pink-blue hair and an utterly arrogant, untouchable expression, he drew the attention of most of the class the moment he walked in. After entering, he sat down by himself in the very center of the classroom.
Soon after, a group of lovely girls gathered around that proud figure. His looks were so outstanding that he could even be called beautiful.
"Humph, what a bunch of vulgar people."
A soft snort rang out beside Lin You's desk, startling him. He hurriedly turned his head and found Xiao Xiao, the cute little girl with green hair.
She said with complete seriousness, "Lin You, you're clearly no worse than him. You're both dashing and handsome, yet those shallow girls just have to like cute boys. They really have no taste."
The corner of Lin You's mouth twitched. He could not help laughing helplessly as he patted Xiao Xiao on the shoulder. "Xiao Xiao, don't talk nonsense. Be careful they don't hear you."
Xiao Xiao was just about to say something when someone suddenly entered through the classroom door.
It was an old woman with skin like chicken and hair like a crane, her hair mottled white.
The old woman crossed the room in a few strides and stood behind the lectern, staring directly at the students before her. Within seconds, the noisy classroom gradually fell silent. Everyone looked at their new homeroom teacher with curiosity and scrutiny in their eyes.
The old woman's calm gaze swept across the room. An invisible pressure instantly spread out, forcing nearly everyone to lower their eyes, too afraid to meet her gaze.
This was plainly a Soul Emperor Soul Master using Spiritual Power to bully people.
Lin You, however, felt no particular pressure. What a joke—Huo Yuhao constantly radiated Spiritual Pressure at the Soul Emperor level too. He had long since grown used to it, so he looked back openly.
Zhou Yi paused almost imperceptibly. She seemed surprised that a student could withstand her pressure.
"My name is Zhou Yi, and I am your homeroom teacher. I'm not sure how many of you will make it through the coming year with me, but let me tell you this: in my class, no trash will ever pass the assessment. What I want are monsters, not idiots."
After hearing her words, quite a few students showed anger at being insulted.
Shrek Academy had a high admission threshold. To become a student here, one needed not only the required Soul Power Level, but also to meet the standards for bone age and combat ability. Those standing here were already elite Soul Masters selected through rigorous screening. She might be a teacher, but opening with insults was simply unacceptable.
Who the hell did she think she was?
Lin You, however, had been mentally prepared long ago. It was nothing more than serving time in prison.
This old woman's teaching ability could practically be said to be worse than even Grandmaster's. Grandmaster at least knew how to teach according to individual aptitude. With no better conditions, he could only make people run while carrying rocks, but he assigned different requirements based on how much weight each person could bear. And after the run, there were even medicinal baths waiting for them.
But this woman was truly hard to describe.
So Lin You simply did not take her words seriously. After all, she had said it herself: she only wanted monsters, not idiots. Shrek's educational philosophy had never inherited any of Grandmaster's principles. They expelled students at the drop of a hat, so naturally their graduation rate would rise. She was merely a small example of that.
Grandmaster: I've been dead for ten thousand years. Why has my reputation suddenly started improving lately? Does anyone have a clue?
"Those of you who got into fights during the registration period, stand up."
A familiar line slowly rang out.
When Zhou Yi saw that no one in the classroom stood up, she could not help sneering. "Those who dare not cause trouble are mediocrities. What a bunch of trash. All of you, get out and run laps around Shrek Plaza. Anyone who fails to finish will be expelled immediately."
The entire class erupted in an uproar. They looked at one another, never having expected this teacher to throw down the gauntlet the moment she entered.
"Wow, this teacher is so overbearing," Xiao Xiao whispered.
"Those who don't dare cause trouble are mediocrities, but those who cause trouble recklessly are idiots. She never finishes what she says. What a trap. If you really believed her and went around picking fights, you'd get beaten to death on the roadside like a dog being kicked to death."
Lin You did not deliberately lower his voice, so in the current silence, nearly the entire class heard him clearly.
After attending school for so many years in his previous life, this was the first time he had truly felt that the educational policies of the Douluo World were so twisted. This was not a school at all; it was already a military camp. Teachers did not bother with teaching or cultivating character. They simply cultivated combat power, extremity, and the desire to fight.
Then again, perhaps the nature of this world was simply different, so there was nothing much to blame. After all, in the Douluo World, without some strength, one really could be slaughtered like a pig. More importantly, Shrek Academy was truly only a neutral academy. Its students did not all come from the same country, and there were far too many people from other nations.
There were clans, sects, nobles, commoners, rich second-generation heirs, second-generation Soul Masters, and more. They were also divided among three nations, with undercurrents constantly flowing between them. It was nearly impossible for them to unite, unlike his previous life, which had been one unified country where people lived stable lives and could naturally be taught virtue. In this world, fists were what mattered most.
Zhou Yi glanced at Lin You. The next second, two yellow, two purple, and two black Soul Rings appeared around her. The aura of a Soul Emperor swept across the entire room, and the powerful, terrifying pressure left every student feeling as though they could barely breathe.
Lin You, who had just "spoken disrespectfully," bore the brunt of it. The pressure he faced was far greater than that of the other students!
In an instant, Lin You's eyes brightened slightly. A yellow-orange Soul Ring emerged around him in response, and his Martial Soul appeared with it. A hazy veil covered Lin You's vision as a magnificent, dazzling world bloomed before his eyes. His aura then blended into everything around him.
"Hm?"
The old woman frowned slightly. It felt as though her pressure could not quite reach this foul-mouthed brat before her. His aura was like a tiny flat boat amid raging winds and towering waves—no matter how it was overturned, it would always rise back to the surface the next moment.
The pressure lasted only a few seconds before Zhou Yi withdrew her oppressive aura and said flatly, "Hurry up and run. You have only one hour. Anyone who fails to complete one hundred laps will be deemed unqualified, fail the assessment, and be expelled. Boy, you stay behind."
If nothing unexpected happened, Old Zhou would not have much teaching time left. Her ability really was terrible.
