Boom!
A dull rush of displaced air sounded as a scorching wind and boiling brain matter sprayed down. A headless corpse flew backward, knocking over a swath of people. But the moment a gap opened, another Evil Spirit filled it.
It wore the white Sage Robe of the Temple of Memories, but the face beneath was hideous, its bulging eyes bloodshot. Before it could find its footing, a flash of searing white light crossed its eyes.
Bzz!
The Light Spear shook off its blood. Renee gritted her teeth, widened her eyes, and swept it once more through the seemingly endless enemies.
Blood ran from the corners of her eyes from the force of the swing. She was drenched in blood, and a thick crust of foul, sticky gore had formed over her woolen cloak.
Though she could barely stand, Renee stubbornly dragged the unconscious Xia Lun toward the stairs below. Light blazed, leaving the darkness nowhere to hide. Yet even under its blinding glare, the Sages of the Temple of Memories who had become Evil Spirits kept surging toward Renee and Xia Lun.
The Evil Spirits had gone completely berserk. Even as the intense light roasted their flesh until it split and caught fire, they never stopped charging. If anything, they grew more frenzied.
The thick stench of blood and burning flesh assailed every living creature. Renee had lost herself in the killing. Blood filled her mouth as she swung the Holy Flame Spear with a beast's ferocity, neither dodging nor blocking any attack!
I have to push forward!
Trade wounds for lives!
Xia Lun held back those flesh-and-blood Evil Spirits charging like a landslide. I can't betray his trust!
At this point, courage isn't enough. What I need is sheer tolerance for pain and the will to kill!
*Kill,
