The rich scent of incense filled the corridor. Footsteps approached along the hall lined with oil paintings and statues.
Xia Lun and Renee walked in front, while Feilier followed close behind.
She was still dressed in finery, but her face now wore a smile mixed with fear and eagerness to please.
Xia Lun walked forward at an unhurried pace. The Annihilation Cult soldiers on either side were awestruck. Most dropped to their knees in prayer, not even daring to look up at him. "Great and holy Xia Lun, the place where Her Highness Renee and I spoke is just ahead. As you requested, I've prepared a table and chairs." Feilier watched his expression carefully as she spoke. "Please forgive me for taking the liberty, but I've also arranged food and musicians for you."
Before she finished speaking, the orchestra at the end of the corridor began to play again.
This time, they played a solemn melody. A weighty organ replaced the driving drums, violins sounded in subdued, sacred tones, and a female singer with an ethereal voice sang lyrics about the "Forgotten Saint."
"Grant us blessings, grant us trials, grant us destiny. We were always one..." As the strikingly beautiful silver-haired singer sang, she gazed at Xia Lun with fervent adoration. Her alluring eyes glimmered like a pair of rubies.
Xia Lun's eyes darkened. He did not particularly like this kind of music, but Feilier's painstaking efforts to please him told him something. She seemed to have mistaken him for the "Forgotten Saint" worshipped by the Annihilation Cult.
He said nothing, merely stared at Feilier. She immediately grew nervous.
"Awu daga!" Renee's excited voice suddenly rang out beside him. "Mm-mm huda, da mm wuhu, wuhu~"
Xia Lun looked away from Feilier and saw Renee pointing at the door ahead.
"We
