Background / History
Before Qi Chao became his guardian, Lan Luo was severely neglected and abused by his previous master. He went a week without Energy Stones, was confined to a storage room or cage, owned only one outfit, and bore cracks on his hand and foot from repeated violence. Conditioned to accept mistreatment, he once retrieved a whip and offered himself for punishment when Qi Chao noticed his injuries. 4 5 6
Qi Chao began treating Lan Luo as his child: preparing accessible Energy Stone meals, giving him a bedroom beside his own, buying him clothes, and teaching him that he may express pain and defend himself. Lan Luo outwardly accepted this kindness, but initially remained distrustful; he entered Qi Chao's locked bedroom at night and considered attacking his heart. 5 6
Lan Luo was later taken outside for the first time in a long while. At the amusement park and neighborhood park, Qi Chao gave him ordinary childhood experiences such as cartoons, headbands, shoulder rides, photographs, and playing on a swing. Qi Chao's protection during a bullying incident became a major turning point: Lan Luo was deeply affected when Qi Chao called him more precious than the human children. 10 12 19 20
A public amusement-park photograph exposed Lan Luo's identity to doll enthusiasts. Li Yueya recognized him as Doctor's third doll and posted the image to a private forum, where debate over him and the treatment of dolls generated thousands of replies. 12 13
Lan Luo's creator, Doctor—later identified as Shen Yuxi—arranged treatment for his cracks. Moss, Lan Luo's older brother, first examined the damage; Shen Yuxi later began treatment using Spirit Thread Healing Agent. 18 35 42
Appearance
Lan Luo resembles an exquisitely beautiful human boy of about eleven or twelve, with an angelic appearance that often conceals his volatile nature. His ball joints are usually hidden beneath clothing, allowing him to pass for a human child at a glance. 9 12
- Blond, slightly curly hair. 7 10
- Clear sapphire-blue or azure eyes. 7 9
- Initially wore a white suit and was described as resembling a young nobleman. 7
- Has visible spherical joints at his wrists and knees. 9
- Sustained a long crack across the back of one hand and another on his foot from past abuse. 5 35
- Frequently wears a deer-antler headband obtained during his first amusement-park visit. 12 13
Personality
Lan Luo presents himself as soft-spoken, obedient, sweet, and eager to please. His habitual smile and readiness to accept punishment stem from neglect and abuse rather than true lack of emotion; he was taught to hide pain because no former master had ever asked about it. 5 6
Behind this harmless façade, Lan Luo is dangerously volatile and initially views killing as an ordinary response to frustration. He contemplated murdering Qi Chao multiple times, including during their first days together and at the amusement park. His obedience to Shen Yuxi's orders is one of the few restraints on these impulses. 6 10 12 29
Qi Chao's care gradually draws out a more openly childlike side. Lan Luo becomes attached to his headband, enjoys swings and shoulder rides, seeks praise for his clay frog, wants a friend, and asks repeatedly whether he is a “good boy.” He is also possessive of Qi Chao's attention and jealous when other children gather around him. 12 13 21 32 33
