Background
Meng Qi was formerly a Shaolin disciple before entering the Immortal Trace, where he received the codename Yuanshi Heavenly Venerable. He later joins the Chat Group after confirming that it is a genuine cross-world communication platform rather than another trap like the Lord of the Six Paths of Reincarnation. He immediately seeks information about his future, hoping to avert the deaths and tragedies surrounding him and his companions 275.
His freedom is initially constrained by the Lord of the Six Paths of Reincarnation and his karmic connection to the Demon Buddha. Meng Qi regards severing that connection as necessary before he can travel freely between worlds, making the Azure Jade Void Sword and the Jade Void Palace inheritance especially significant to him 286 294.
At Lihua Island, Meng Qi encounters Gu Xiaosang while disguised as the Poison-Hand Demon Lord. Their alliance develops through mutual testing, flirtation, and shared resistance to Other Shore schemes. He eventually abandons secrecy, publicly commits to her, and announces their wedding despite the political consequences of marrying the Luo Sect’s Holy Maiden 332 797 1080.
As his cultivation grows, Meng Qi increasingly confronts the question of whether he is merely Su Meng, a future incarnation, or the Primordial Emperor himself. He resolves this during his search for the innate nature needed for Legend: Yuanshi is not an external ancestor to be found, but an identity he must recognize as his own 1112. His subsequent breakthrough manifests Yuanshi, Dao De, and Lingbao together, establishing an unprecedented connection with the Three Pure Ones 1113.
Appearance
Meng Qi’s appearance changes frequently through transformations, projections, and deliberate performances. He often presents himself as a Daoist immortal or a mythological figure rather than maintaining one fixed public image.
- Descends as Yuanshi Heavenly Venerable in a solemn mask and dark Daoist robe 274 275.
- Wears silver, dragon-scale armor while wielding the Azure Jade Void Sword 802.
- Can take the form and aura of figures such as Sun Wukong, Thor, and the Poison-Hand Demon Lord through the Eight-Nine Mysterious Art 332 1098 1144.
- During his voluntary return to mortality, he is described with graying temples and Daoist robes 802.
Personality
Meng Qi is theatrical, proud, and acutely aware of the image he projects. His grand entrance as Yuanshi Heavenly Venerable is partly strategic and partly an indulgence in his instinct to put on a show; afterward, he is embarrassed to discover that the Chat Group recognizes his familiar style immediately 275.
Beneath the bravado, he is pragmatic and deeply protective of those he considers his own. He seeks foreknowledge to save companions, refuses to allow his friends to become sacrificial pieces in the Primordial Emperor’s plans, and is prepared to turn his blade against any version of himself that would manipulate them without consent 275 1115.
Meng Qi combines sharp strategic thinking with irreverent humor. He can calmly analyze Other Shore plots and karmic traps, yet reacts dramatically to Shen Gongbao’s “Fellow Daoist, please stay,” romantic rumors, and Su Lin’s provocations 1145 1095. His relationship with Gu Xiaosang also brings out a direct, affectionate side: he chooses her openly despite the expectations attached to his “righteous” Yuanshi identity 663 1080.
Abilities & Skills
Eight-Nine Mysterious Art
Meng Qi uses the Eight-Nine Mysterious Art for transformation, combat adaptation, and the imitation of mythological identities.
- Assumes the identity of the Poison-Hand Demon Lord to infiltrate Lihua Island 332.
- Transforms into Sun Wukong through the Golden Cudgel and Eight Trigrams Furnace, drawing out a karmic connection to the Equal-to-Heaven Great Sage 1098.
- Disguises himself as Thor during the Investiture of the Gods conflict 1144.
- Supports combat manifestations such as Three Heads and Six Arms and simulations of Yuanshi’s authority 1145 1104.
- His simulated higher-state power is conditional; in Nine Serenities, Yuanshi’s projection grants him exceptional abilities that do not represent his ordinary baseline 1104.
Cause of All Fruits
Meng Qi’s central karmic art allows him to perceive, establish, amplify, and pursue causal connections.
- Traces targets through karma, including the Lamp-Bearing Oracle after the Wanderer’s Lamp creates a connection 1102 1105.
- Conceals himself and crosses spatial barriers through karmic links 705.
- Amplifies a single karmic thread into connections spreading toward countless worlds 1098.
- Connects to alternate selves, projections, and fragmented portions of his True Spirit 1112 1118.
- Its power also leaves Meng Qi deeply entangled in the schemes of the Demon Buddha and other Other Shore beings 286 1112.
One Qi Transforms into Three Pure Ones
Meng Qi can split aspects of himself into manifestations associated with Yuanshi, Dao De, Lingbao, and Buddhist forms.
- Produces the Buddhist incarnation Zhending Tathagata, improving his understanding of Buddhist techniques and the Tathagata Golden Body 1093.
- Manifests Yuanshi, Dao De Riding the Ox, and Lingbao Wielding the Sword during his Legend breakthrough 1113.
- His use of the Three Pure Ones is tied to his realization that he is both Su Meng and the Primordial Emperor 1112.
- The Three Pure Ones can act with independent wills, creating the danger that Meng Qi’s own manifestations may pursue separate paths and ambitions 1132.
Buddhist Cultivation
Meng Qi retains Shaolin roots while incorporating Buddhist inheritances into his broader Daoist path.
- Uses the Primordial Golden Chapter as a core cultivation method 332.
- Possesses knowledge of the Tathagata Palm and can imitate or improve Tathagata Golden Body principles 1093.
- Learns the Heavenly Buddha Formless Body, which deepens his understanding of Buddhist techniques and creates the Zhending Tathagata incarnation 1093.
- Remains suspicious of the technique’s uncertain origin and its possible connection to the Real World or Six Paths’ exchange systems 1093.
Combat and Spatial Arts
Meng Qi is a saber-and-sword combatant who supplements direct battle with spatial and projection techniques.
- Uses Universe in the Sleeve to contain opponents in an independent world 501.
- Employs purple lightning, the World-Opening Seal, and incarnations such as Ape Origin Celestial Worthy in combat 1105.
- Can deploy an enhanced Zhuxian Sword Formation, whose chaotic sword qi can threaten the projections of powerful Legends 1105.
- Has sufficient strength to defeat or drive back multiple opponents while injured and with an incomplete True Spirit 1145.
