Ch. 141Betty with Ambition

Chapter Summary: “Betty with Ambition”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • She recalls Lucas, the famous silver-haired billionaire, saving her from a cannonball and immediately assumes he may expect romantic or physical repayment.
  • Lucas enters with a plate of sweet almonds, Betty’s favorite snack, and openly admits that he rescued her because he was attracted to her.
  • Betty bluntly rejects the idea of becoming his wife or lover, explaining that she is devoted to helping oppressed people and achieving her ambitions.
  • Lucas argues that joining him would give her greater power and resources to help others. Betty remains skeptical but agrees to give him one chance to prove himself.
  • After leaving Betty, Lucas visits Hina, who is annoyed that he is pursuing another woman. Lucas justifies his actions by claiming he wants to help Betty fulfill her dreams.
  • Betty enjoys the almonds and begins considering the advantages of staying with Lucas, but overhears suggestive noises from Lucas and Hina’s room. Furious, she concludes that Lucas is courting her while being intimate with another woman.

Character Developments

  • Betty: Revealed as direct, ambitious, independent, and strongly committed to helping oppressed people. Although attracted to Lucas’s strength, wealth, and appearance, she places her ideals above romance. Her suspicion gradually softens when Lucas speaks honestly, and she becomes tentatively open to his offer.
  • Lucas: Presented as confident, blunt, flirtatious, and opportunistic. He is genuinely interested in Betty but also recognizes the strategic value of her Encouragement Fruit. He attempts to win her over by promising that his resources will help her achieve her goals.
  • Hina: Shows jealousy and irritation at Lucas’s continued pursuit of other women. Her reaction suggests familiarity with his behavior and highlights the tension created by his multiple romantic relationships.

Significant Themes

  • Ambition versus romance: Betty refuses to let romantic prospects distract her from her larger mission.
  • Power as a means of helping others: The chapter suggests that strength, wealth, and influence can make charitable or revolutionary goals more effective.
  • Trust and honesty: Betty responds positively when Lucas speaks directly rather than manipulating her through indirect promises.
  • Gender and social expectations: Betty challenges the expectation that a capable woman should prioritize marriage, while Lucas’s reputation and behavior reinforce the complicated dynamics of his relationships.
  • Miscommunication and appearances: Betty interprets Lucas’s actions through her assumptions about wealthy men and romance, while overhearing him with Hina creates a misleading but emotionally explosive impression.

Character Interactions

  • Lucas reframes romance as a partnership that could help Betty accomplish her humanitarian ambitions.
  • Hina confronts Lucas about his pursuit of Betty, expressing displeasure and jealousy. Lucas responds by portraying himself as benevolent.
  • Betty’s final discovery of Lucas and Hina’s intimate interaction leaves her angry and convinced that Lucas is hypocritical.

Ch. 142The Seventh Private Car

Chapter Summary: The Seventh Private Car

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Betty explores Aplunan Island after Lucas leaves her there, intending to judge the Eternal Financial Group through firsthand observation.
  • She discovers that nearly every public facility—from bakeries and clinics to schools and warehouses—bears the Group’s emblem.
  • Unlike the impoverished, dispirited commoners she has encountered elsewhere, the island’s people are well-fed, financially secure, and optimistic.
  • Betty visits the king, who explains that Eos’s business transformed the island by providing residents with well-paid work close to home. The king also reveals his eagerness to build a favorable relationship with Betty because he expects her to marry into the Eternal Financial Group.
  • Betty inspects two neighboring countries and finds that they have undergone the same successful transformation. This convinces her that Lucas’s organization can help vastly more people than she could assist alone.
  • That night, Betty confronts Lucas and asks whether he genuinely cares about oppressed people or would help them simply out of compassion.
  • Lucas answers honestly that he has no heroic desire to save strangers and primarily wants to live freely. However, he deeply values his family and will support his wives’ dreams, even when doing so conflicts with his own preferences.
  • He demonstrates this by explaining how he fulfilled the ambitions of Baccarat, Gion, and the other women in his family.
  • Moved by his honesty and the family’s shared purpose, Betty agrees to join Lucas and become his seventh wife. Lucas embraces her and takes her to the bedroom.
  • While Lucas and Betty are together, the other women discuss his character and reaffirm their willingness to prioritize his safety if enemies ever threaten civilians to manipulate him.

Character Developments

  • Betty: Her skepticism toward Lucas and the Eternal Financial Group gradually disappears. By personally witnessing the prosperity of three islands, she realizes that joining Lucas would give her far greater power to improve people’s lives. She also learns that Lucas’s apparent selfishness is rooted partly in caution and protectiveness, leading her to accept him and his family.
  • Lucas: He openly rejects the image of a self-sacrificing savior, presenting himself as selfish and freedom-loving. At the same time, he reveals his loyalty and generosity toward his wives, showing that he expresses his ideals indirectly by helping the people he loves fulfill their dreams.
  • The King: He is portrayed as an enthusiastic admirer of Eos and the Group, while also being politically calculating. His friendliness toward Betty is motivated partly by the advantages of forming an alliance with Lucas’s future wife.
  • Gion and the other wives: They demonstrate strong loyalty to Lucas and a shared understanding of his priorities. Gion recognizes that Lucas’s “selfishness” conceals genuine kindness and concern for his family.

Significant Themes

  • Practical versus idealistic altruism: The chapter contrasts Betty’s desire to help oppressed people with Lucas’s refusal to claim heroic motives. Lucas helps others not from universal compassion but by supporting the dreams of those close to him.
  • Power through cooperation: Betty realizes that collective wealth, influence, and organization can accomplish far more than individual strength or isolated resistance.
  • Honesty and trust: Lucas’s blunt admission that he is not naturally selfless earns Betty’s trust more effectively than a noble but dishonest speech would have.
  • Family and shared purpose: The Eternal Financial Group functions not only as a business but also as a family united by mutual support and the fulfillment of individual ambitions.
  • Prosperity as liberation: The three islands suggest that stable employment, financial security, and hope can free ordinary people from oppression without relying on force or ideological indoctrination.
  • Protecting loved ones above strangers: The wives accept that Lucas may refuse to sacrifice family members for unrelated civilians, emphasizing the group’s internal loyalty and practical survival instinct.

Character Interactions

  • Betty questions the king about the island’s prosperity, while the king enthusiastically credits Eos and tries to cultivate a relationship with her.
  • Betty and Lucas have a direct, emotionally significant conversation in which she tests his morality and demands complete honesty.
  • Lucas uses Baccarat, Gion, and the other wives as examples of how he fulfills the dreams of his family members.
  • The women discuss Lucas after he leaves with Betty, with Hina expressing admiration for his honesty and Gion warning them never to let enemies exploit civilian hostages against him.
  • The chapter ends with Betty accepted into Lucas’s family, establishing the beginning of her new role as its seventh wife.

Ch. 143The Proper Way to Use the Encouragement Fruit (Bonus Chapter for Tips)

Chapter Summary

Plot and key events

Betty retreats to the bathroom after the events of the previous night while Lucas discovers that his body has been dramatically enhanced. Testing the effect with a punch, he accidentally blasts a hole through the villa’s enormous front door. He realizes that Betty’s Encouragement Fruit can empower him, but unlike ordinary users, his ability is triggered through prolonged intimate contact and becomes stronger as Betty grows more emotionally passionate. After discussing and testing this theory, Lucas and Betty confirm that his body can become substantially larger and more powerful. Scarlet investigates the damage, then sends clay dolls to repair the door. Afterward, Betty asks what became of the civilians from the Rade Kingdom, and Lucas begins recounting their fate. The chapter ends on a cliffhanger.

Character development

Lucas gains a deeper understanding of the Encouragement Fruit and recognizes that its effects on him differ from its normal use. He is amused and confident about the unusual trigger condition, while also showing affection and reassurance toward Betty. Betty is embarrassed by the discovery of her ability’s “shameless” hidden use, but gradually becomes more accepting and playful. Her later concern for the Rade Kingdom civilians reveals her returning sense of responsibility and guilt after having temporarily focused on her own problems. The chapter also emphasizes the contrast between Betty’s youthful innocence and the more uninhibited personality she will develop with age and experience.

Character interactions

Lucas and Betty share teasing, affectionate exchanges as they investigate the power’s effects. Lucas comforts her by framing the ability as a private advantage shared only between them, which helps her relax and laugh. Scarlet acts as a practical caretaker, checking for danger and organizing repairs after Lucas’s accidental attack. Betty then shifts the conversation toward the people who followed her, prompting Lucas to explain what happened to them.

Significant themes

The chapter explores the unpredictable and personalized nature of Devil Fruit powers, especially how abilities may reflect deep desires such as encouragement, recognition, or emotional validation. It also focuses on intimacy, trust, and mutual reassurance in Lucas and Betty’s relationship. Betty’s concern for the civilians introduces themes of leadership, responsibility, and guilt. The bonus note clarifies that the pirate world has its own official alphabetic script, while Chinese characters also exist as a minority writing system.

Ch. 144The Eyebrowless Man

Chapter Summary: “The Eyebrowless Man”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • The story flashes back to events in the Rade Kingdom, where a battle has devastated the plains outside the royal capital.
  • Dragon arrives at the docks, traveling on green air currents. He is searching for an ability user important to the Revolutionary Army.
  • On the battlefield, Lucas has already defeated the royal forces using Conqueror’s Haki. He places the unconscious Betty inside Castle Space and orders Hina to care for her.
  • Lucas executes the old king by draining all the blood from his body. He judges the king deserving of death because he bombarded his own civilians during the conflict.
  • Lucas refuses to kill the remaining soldiers indiscriminately, distinguishing between genuine war casualties and people directly responsible for tyranny.
  • As Lucas prepares to leave, Dragon arrives and witnesses him standing among the corpses with the king’s mummified body at his feet. Lucas fears Dragon will mistake him for a mass murderer and prepares for combat.
  • Instead, Dragon calmly greets him. He explains that the Revolutionary Army has monitored the country for a long time and knows the king’s crimes and the true course of the war.
  • Lucas claims he came to the kingdom because he heard there was a beautiful woman there, then leaves by flying away with his bat wings.
  • Dragon watches him depart, noting that Lucas possesses the rumored ability and appears to indulge his desires. He then contacts Revolutionary Army headquarters through an encrypted Den Den Mushi line.

Character Developments

  • Lucas is shown to possess immense power, using Conqueror’s Haki and a blood-draining ability to eliminate the corrupt king. However, he also demonstrates restraint: he refuses to kill unconscious soldiers without clear justification. His priorities remain self-interested and pleasure-driven, but he still follows a personal moral code.
  • Dragon is portrayed as calm, experienced, and politically cautious. Unlike his younger, more impulsive self, he avoids acting recklessly and evaluates the battlefield before judging Lucas. His responsibility as the Revolutionary Army’s leader—and as a father—is emphasized.
  • Betty is left unconscious and vulnerable after the battle, while Hina is entrusted with caring for her. Their brief interaction adds a lighter, somewhat sarcastic moment amid the violence.
  • The old king is confirmed as a brutal tyrant who attacked his own people. His death functions as a form of punishment rather than a random act of violence.

Significant Themes

  • Justice versus indiscriminate violence: Lucas believes the king deserves death but refuses to slaughter everyone present, showing the distinction between punishment and cruelty.
  • Appearance and misunderstanding: Lucas looks like a murderer when Dragon arrives, but the surrounding circumstances reveal that the battle and the king’s crimes are more complicated.
  • Power and responsibility: Both Lucas and Dragon wield extraordinary abilities, yet Dragon’s restraint reflects the burden of leadership, while Lucas uses power according to his personal code.
  • Political revolution and moral ambiguity: The Revolutionary Army has been observing the kingdom and understands its history, suggesting that revolutionary action requires patience, intelligence, and strategic judgment rather than simple outrage.
  • Desire and self-indulgence: Dragon identifies Lucas’s tendency to pursue personal pleasure, reinforcing the contrast between Lucas’s freedom-driven behavior and Dragon’s disciplined revolutionary mission.

Character Interactions

  • Lucas communicates telepathically with Hina, ordering her to care for Betty; Hina responds with sarcastic affection.
  • Lucas and Dragon meet under tense circumstances, but Dragon deliberately avoids confrontation and acknowledges Lucas politely.
  • Their conversation reveals mutual awareness: Lucas recognizes Dragon as a dangerous figure, while Dragon evaluates Lucas’s abilities and personality.
  • Dragon’s final encrypted call implies that his meeting with Lucas may have important consequences for the Revolutionary Army.

Ch. 145Whitebeard Attacks

Chapter Summary: “Whitebeard Attacks”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Lucas presents Betty with a custom five-meter spear bearing a scarlet bat and Mobius Strip banner. The weapon is designed to accommodate Betty’s expected future height and is made from lightweight but exceptionally durable materials enhanced with the Munch-Munch Fruit.
  • Betty tests the spear inside the house, accidentally scattering furniture and newspapers with the force of her swing.
  • Scarlet angrily reprimands Lucas and Betty for causing the mess. Both immediately apologize and clean up before fleeing to the training grounds. Stussy jokes that Scarlet is the strongest member of the household, while Scarlet criticizes the other wives for indulging Lucas. Robin silently retreats after Stussy reveals that Lucas punished her for nagging him.
  • At the security chief’s office, Issho is enjoying his unusually relaxed duties now that clone soldiers handle security. While at the beach, he senses a powerful fleet approaching and identifies the Whitebeard Pirates aboard the Moby Dick.
  • Knowing Whitebeard may seek revenge over Marco and Jozu’s previous defeat and their involvement in human trafficking, Issho decides not to let the fleet reach the Yulo Peninsula.
  • Issho attacks with “Gravity Blade: Blood Smile Journey,” creating a gigantic tsunami more than one hundred meters high.
  • Whitebeard answers by punching the air with his quake power, shattering the atmosphere and splitting the tsunami apart. Marco and Vista then use their abilities to disperse the falling seawater.
  • Whitebeard angrily objects to his commanders helping him, insisting that he is still strong enough to fight alone.
  • Marco argues that the commanders must stop relying entirely on Whitebeard’s protection. The other commanders support him, declaring their desire to prove themselves.
  • Although Whitebeard pretends to be furious, he is secretly pleased that his “sons” have grown stronger and more independent.

Character Developments

  • Betty demonstrates the immense strength developed through years of training and Lineage Factor optimization. Her excitement over the spear also reinforces her close, affectionate relationship with Lucas.
  • Lucas appears powerful and influential but remains comically vulnerable to Scarlet’s domestic authority.
  • Scarlet is established as the household’s disciplinarian, willing to confront Lucas and the other wives when they behave irresponsibly.
  • Stussy continues to act as a playful observer and commentator on the family’s relationships.
  • Robin is embarrassed by Stussy’s teasing and remains quietly resentful after being punished by Lucas.
  • Issho/Zatoichi displays extreme vigilance and decisiveness. He immediately recognizes Whitebeard as a threat and launches an attack powerful enough to create a massive tsunami.
  • Whitebeard remains overwhelmingly powerful, effortlessly neutralizing Issho’s attack with his quake ability. However, his anger at Marco and the commanders conceals pride in their determination to mature.
  • Marco and the commanders show important growth after their previous defeat. Rather than remain dependent on Whitebeard, they resolve to take responsibility and fight when capable.

Significant Themes

  • Family and discipline: The domestic scenes portray Lucas’s household as affectionate but chaotic, with Scarlet providing necessary discipline.
  • Growth through hardship: Marco’s defeat has taught him and the other commanders that protection can become dependence. Their resolve reflects the need to face danger personally in order to grow.
  • Pride and independence: The Whitebeard commanders refuse to remain sheltered beneath their captain’s overwhelming strength and want to earn their own victories.
  • Strength versus responsibility: The chapter contrasts raw power with the responsibility to use it wisely—seen both in Issho’s preemptive defense and in the commanders’ desire to prove themselves.
  • Found family: Whitebeard’s crew is depicted as a genuine family. His irritation at being helped ultimately reveals pride in the development of his “sons.”

Character Interactions

  • Lucas and Betty: Their cooperative, affectionate exchange over Betty’s new weapon highlights their intimacy and mutual trust.
  • Lucas, Betty, and Scarlet: Their immediate fear and synchronized apology provide comic relief while establishing Scarlet’s authority.
  • Scarlet and Stussy: They exchange contrasting views about indulgence and discipline within the family.
  • Stussy and Robin: Stussy teases Robin about Lucas’s punishment, prompting Robin’s silent, embarrassed withdrawal.
  • Issho and Whitebeard: Their opening attacks function as a direct challenge between two immensely powerful figures.
  • Whitebeard, Marco, and the commanders: Their argument reveals a shift in the crew’s dynamic: Whitebeard still wants to protect everyone, while the commanders insist that becoming strong requires taking action themselves.

Ch. 146The World's Strongest Man (Elderly, No IV-Drip Form)

Chapter Summary

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Issho prepares to strike again, but Lucas telepathically orders him to stand down and maintain his defensive position. Issho obeys, sheathing his sword and withdrawing.
  • The Moby Dick stops offshore, and Whitebeard launches himself toward the Yulo Peninsula. Using the recoil of a sword strike against the air, he crosses the hundred-meter gap almost instantly.
  • As Whitebeard lands, Lucas attacks with a massive scarlet blood wave. Whitebeard effortlessly splits it with a flying slash and mocks Lucas’s attack as little more than a bath.
  • Whitebeard demands that Lucas surrender Weevil, offering to leave peacefully because Lucas is supposedly married to Buckingham’s daughter.
  • Lucas exploits Whitebeard’s mistaken belief that Stussy is Weevil’s biological sister and claims that Stussy is also Whitebeard’s daughter. He sarcastically criticizes Whitebeard for favoring Weevil.
  • Angered by Lucas’s disrespect, Whitebeard attacks with a powerful flying sword slash. Although he does not use Haki or the Tremor-Tremor Fruit, the strike demonstrates his immense strength and sophisticated swordsmanship.
  • Lucas counters with Dracule, causing the two flying slashes to collide and explode.
  • Lucas then uses “Razor” to move at extreme speed, surrounding Whitebeard with afterimages.
  • Whitebeard, whose health has not yet deteriorated to the point of needing IV support, uses Observation Haki to locate Lucas and strikes the air with a quake-powered fist.
  • The resulting spatial fractures expose Lucas and send him crashing into the sea, coughing up blood. The chapter ends with Lucas apparently injured and Whitebeard in control.

Character Developments

  • Lucas remains confident, manipulative, and provocative. He deliberately reinforces Whitebeard’s false belief about Stussy’s parentage to strengthen his own political and familial position.
  • Issho demonstrates discipline and loyalty by immediately following Lucas’s order, even after preparing a powerful attack.
  • Whitebeard is portrayed in his healthier, pre-IV-drip condition, with all three forms of Haki functioning normally. He displays overwhelming physical power, advanced swordsmanship, and sharp combat instincts.
  • Whitebeard also reveals a protective but selectively biased attitude toward his supposed children, showing unusual leniency toward Lucas as a son-in-law—until Lucas mocks him too directly.
  • Lucas’s apparent physical superiority in speed is undermined by Whitebeard’s Observation Haki and battlefield awareness.

Significant Themes

  • Family and deception: Lucas manipulates Whitebeard’s misunderstanding about Stussy and Weevil, turning a false family relationship into a strategic advantage.
  • Respect and authority: Whitebeard expects filial respect from Lucas, while Lucas deliberately challenges his authority through sarcasm.
  • Old strength versus youthful speed: Lucas relies on mobility and rapid attacks, whereas Whitebeard counters with experience, Haki, and overwhelming force.
  • Power restrained by relationships: Whitebeard initially avoids using his full strength because he considers Lucas family, but his tolerance has limits.
  • Combat mastery: The chapter emphasizes the variety and sophistication of flying sword slashes, as well as the interaction between swordsmanship, Haki, and Devil Fruit abilities.

Character Interactions

  • Lucas gives Issho a direct mental command, establishing his authority and Issho’s obedience.
  • Whitebeard and Lucas engage in a tense verbal exchange centered on Weevil, Stussy, and Whitebeard’s supposed role as Lucas’s father-in-law.
  • Lucas intentionally insults Whitebeard’s parenting, provoking him into attacking.
  • Their duel escalates from long-range blood and sword techniques to high-speed movement and quake-enhanced combat.
  • Whitebeard ultimately gains the upper hand by accurately predicting Lucas’s movements and knocking him into the sea.

Ch. 147200 Million Volts: Massive Jet

Chapter Summary: “200 Million Volts: Massive Jet”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • The Whitebeard Pirates celebrate after Whitebeard knocks Lucas into the sea, believing their captain has decisively won.
  • Marco worries about Lucas because, despite being an enemy, Lucas is technically part of the Edward family through his marriage to Whitebeard’s acknowledged daughter. However, Marco hesitates to ask anyone to rescue him.
  • Lucas survives by coating himself in Busoshoku Haki and forcing the seawater away from his body. He recognizes that Whitebeard’s speed and power are far beyond what he has previously faced.
  • Lucas enters a heightened combat state by expanding his body, spreading scarlet bat wings, and using intense electromagnetic stimulation to repair his injuries and increase his speed and physical abilities.
  • Using “Flash of Instant Thunder,” Lucas launches a lightning-fast attack with Dracule aimed at Whitebeard’s head. Whitebeard’s advanced Busoshoku Haki disperses most of the attack before it can reach him.
  • Lucas attempts to control Whitebeard’s blood, but the technique fails because Whitebeard’s vastly superior Haki suppresses the ability. This confirms Lucas’s theory that overwhelming Haki can nullify certain supernatural powers.
  • Lucas retrieves Dracule with electromagnetic force and hurls it at Whitebeard with tremendous speed, successfully knocking Whitebeard into the air.
  • Lucas follows with his attack, “200 Million Volts: Massive Jet,” combining blood, lightning, electromagnetic power, and Busoshoku Haki into a massive crimson thunderwave.
  • The attack gradually erodes Whitebeard’s Haki armor, forcing him to release powerful Conqueror’s Haki. The burst destroys the blood-and-lightning wave.
  • Lucas withstands and disperses the remnants of Whitebeard’s Conqueror’s Haki, impressing Whitebeard.
  • Whitebeard declares that Lucas has shown considerable potential but warns that his patience has ended. He unleashes his full presence and prepares “Sky-Splitting Strike.”

Character Developments

  • Lucas: Demonstrates exceptional resilience, rapid recovery, inventive use of electromagnetic powers, and growing combat intelligence. He learns firsthand that his blood-control ability cannot overcome a massive Haki gap. Although still outmatched, he manages to injure or pressure Whitebeard enough to earn his respect.
  • Whitebeard: Initially treats the battle almost like a lesson for an immature son-in-law, calmly neutralizing Lucas’s attacks. After Lucas’s “Massive Jet” seriously weakens his defenses, Whitebeard stops holding back and resumes the terrifying role of the world’s strongest man.
  • Marco: Reveals concern for Lucas despite the conflict, acknowledging that Lucas remains family. His hesitation highlights the tension between loyalty to Whitebeard and familial responsibility.
  • Teach: Secretly remains contemptuous of Lucas and is focused on acquiring the Devil Fruit. His internal thoughts reinforce his ambition and foreshadow betrayal or future conflict.

Significant Themes

  • Family versus allegiance: Lucas is both an enemy and part of Whitebeard’s family, creating emotional conflict among the crew.
  • The limits of supernatural abilities: Lucas’s blood manipulation fails against Whitebeard’s superior Haki, emphasizing that raw spiritual strength can overcome powerful abilities.
  • Experience versus potential: Whitebeard’s decades of mastery allow him to effortlessly defend against Lucas, but Lucas’s creativity and rapid growth reveal his dangerous potential.
  • Restraint and escalation: Whitebeard begins by testing or humoring Lucas, but Lucas’s increasingly destructive attacks force him to abandon restraint.
  • Hidden ambition: Teach’s outward shock contrasts with his private confidence, hinting at his plans and future treachery.

Character Interactions

  • The Whitebeard crew celebrates Whitebeard’s apparent victory, while Marco privately struggles with whether to help Lucas.
  • Lucas and Whitebeard exchange taunts and assessments during their battle. Whitebeard mocks Lucas’s imperfect Haki, while Lucas adapts his tactics after each failed attack.
  • Whitebeard’s acknowledgment that Lucas has “not bad potential” marks a rare moment of respect between them.
  • Their relationship shifts at the end: Whitebeard is no longer merely correcting or testing Lucas as family, but confronting him as a serious opponent.

Ch. 148Overwhelming Power, a Vast Gap, Playing the Family Card

Chapter Summary: “Overwhelming Power, a Vast Gap, Playing the Family Card”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Whitebeard unleashes a devastating shockwave infused with Conqueror’s Haki, completely overwhelming Lucas’s Haki armor.
  • Lucas suffers severe internal injuries, including a crushed chest, and crashes into a massive crater. His normally rapid Life Energy regeneration is slowed by the lingering effects of Whitebeard’s attack.
  • Recognizing the enormous gap between his commander-level strength and Whitebeard’s peak power, Lucas abandons the fight and telepathically calls Stussy and Weevil for assistance. He does not want Issho to intervene, fearing that a battle between top-tier fighters would destroy the peninsula and cause unnecessary casualties.
  • Whitebeard begins advancing, but Stussy suddenly attacks him after declaring that he must not harm “her man.” Her appearance and immense strength make Whitebeard suspect that she is his biological daughter, inheriting both Buckingham’s beauty and her father’s power.
  • Weevil then attacks Whitebeard, angrily calling him a bastard and rejecting him as a father. Through Lucas’s Telepathy, Weevil repeats accusations about Whitebeard’s absence during his and Buckingham’s suffering, poverty, and Buckingham’s death.
  • Whitebeard is emotionally stunned by Weevil’s words and fails to defend himself. Marco intervenes just before Weevil’s Haki-coated Naginata can seriously injure him.
  • Marco blocks Weevil’s attack and kicks him away, reprimanding him for nearly killing his father. Weevil insists that he will attack anyone who harms Lucas, regardless of blood ties.
  • Whitebeard stops Marco from retaliating and personally blocks Weevil’s Naginata with one finger. He questions why Weevil values Lucas more than his biological family.
  • Weevil explains that Lucas feeds him well, treats him kindly, and allows him to live comfortably. Whitebeard is deeply affected, realizing that Weevil’s loyalty is based on genuine care rather than blood—and recognizing his own youthful desperation for food and acceptance.

Character Developments

  • Lucas: Learns firsthand how vast the difference is between his strength and that of a peak-level powerhouse. Despite being badly injured, he remains rational, prioritizing the safety of his allies and the peninsula over pride or revenge.
  • Whitebeard: Shifts from overwhelming combatant to emotionally conflicted father. His guilt over abandoning Weevil and Buckingham leaves him vulnerable, causing him to suppress his Haki and willingly accept Weevil’s anger.
  • Stussy: Demonstrates fierce loyalty to Lucas and immediately places herself between him and Whitebeard. Her appearance and strength reveal her likely biological connection to Whitebeard.
  • Weevil: Shows that his loyalty is centered on Lucas, whom he considers true family because Lucas provides food, kindness, and security. He rejects the importance of blood ties and is willing to attack even his biological father to protect Lucas.
  • Marco: Acts as Whitebeard’s protector and mediator, instinctively intervening when Weevil’s attack threatens to kill Whitebeard. His anger reflects his concern for his captain and his difficulty accepting Weevil’s hostility.
  • Whitebeard and Weevil: Their first meaningful confrontation exposes the pain caused by Whitebeard’s absence and begins forcing Whitebeard to confront his failures as a father.

Significant Themes

  • The vast gap in power: Whitebeard’s one decisive attack demonstrates the difference between commander-level fighters and a peak Yonko, especially when the Yonko fights seriously.
  • Chosen family versus biological family: The chapter argues that genuine care, protection, and support can matter more than blood. Weevil views Lucas, Stussy, and Buckingham as his real family, while Whitebeard’s biological relationship carries little emotional weight because he was absent.
  • Parental guilt and responsibility: Whitebeard’s usual confidence collapses when confronted with the consequences of abandoning his child. His inability to defend himself reflects shame rather than weakness.
  • Loyalty built through kindness: Weevil’s devotion to Lucas comes from simple but meaningful acts—being fed, treated well, and given a place to belong.
  • Emotional restraint in combat: Whitebeard’s feelings cause him to suppress his Haki, showing that even the strongest fighters can be affected by family and remorse.
  • Redefining family: The chapter contrasts Whitebeard’s ideal of family based on bonds and loyalty with Weevil’s personal definition, which is rooted in lived treatment rather than biological connection.

Character Interactions

  • Lucas and Whitebeard: Their brief clash establishes Whitebeard’s overwhelming superiority while prompting Lucas to use strategy rather than continue a futile battle.
  • Stussy and Whitebeard: Stussy attacks Whitebeard to defend Lucas, unknowingly triggering Whitebeard’s suspicion that she is his daughter.
  • Weevil and Whitebeard: Weevil confronts Whitebeard with years of resentment and refuses to acknowledge him as a father. Whitebeard’s guilt prevents him from responding aggressively.
  • Marco and Weevil: Marco protects Whitebeard and reprimands Weevil, while Weevil rejects Marco’s appeal to respect biological family.
  • Whitebeard and Weevil: Their final exchange softens Whitebeard when Weevil explains that Lucas earned his loyalty through food and kindness, revealing a painful similarity between Weevil’s motives and Whitebeard’s own childhood hardships.

Ch. 149A Second Emperor-Class Father-in-Law

Chapter Summary: “A Second Emperor-Class Father-in-Law”

  • At Whitebeard’s signal, Marco engages Weevil while Whitebeard speaks with the injured Lucas.
  • Whitebeard warns Lucas that he will never forgive him if Weevil is led astray. Lucas assures him that he has enough money to support Weevil and prevent him from falling into corruption.
  • Whitebeard then speaks kindly to Stussy, offering to protect her from any mistreatment by Lucas. Stussy responds by presenting him with a crate of Bacardi rum, knowing of his fondness for alcohol.
  • Pleased by the gift and accepting Stussy as his daughter, Whitebeard declares that Oliver and his son violated the rules through human trafficking. Since Lucas is now his son-in-law, Whitebeard considers Lucas’s actions justified and ends the conflict.
  • Whitebeard and Marco depart aboard the Moby Dick. Once they are safely gone, Stussy collapses from the strain of deceiving Whitebeard.
  • Lucas reassures her that the false story will remain accepted as long as no one can provide evidence disproving it. The World Government knows the truth but has no incentive to expose the deception because of its relationship with the Eternal Financial Group.
  • Weevil returns proudly, asking whether he performed well. Lucas praises him and rewards him with specially prepared rice balls.

Character Developments

  • Whitebeard shows both his intimidating strength and his protective, fatherly nature. Though initially suspicious and angered by Lucas’s arrogance, he accepts Lucas and Stussy as family after Stussy’s respectful gesture and Lucas’s assurance regarding Weevil.
  • Lucas demonstrates confidence, resourcefulness, and emotional control despite suffering severe injuries. He successfully manipulates the situation to secure Whitebeard’s protection of Weevil and maintains the fabricated family connection.
  • Stussy reveals her ability to perform convincingly under immense pressure. Her gift of liquor helps win Whitebeard’s approval, but afterward she admits her fear and emotional exhaustion.
  • Weevil remains childlike, obedient, and eager for approval. He follows the plan and seeks validation from Lucas after the confrontation.
  • Marco acts as Whitebeard’s reliable subordinate, engaging Weevil and then withdrawing when Whitebeard decides to end the conflict.

Significant Themes

  • Family as a source of protection: Whitebeard’s acceptance of Lucas and Stussy gives Weevil powerful protection and transforms a dangerous conflict into a family matter.
  • Deception and constructed truth: Lucas emphasizes that an unproven lie can function as truth, highlighting the importance of evidence and political interests.
  • Power and influence: Lucas’s wealth, Stussy’s performance, and Whitebeard’s reputation combine to reshape the outcome of the confrontation.

Ch. 150The Difficulty of Mastering Conqueror's Haki Infusion

Chapter Summary: The Difficulty of Mastering Conqueror’s Haki Infusion

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Lucas spends seven days and nights training alone on the shore, repeatedly punching the sea while trying to reproduce the Conqueror’s Haki Infusion technique Whitebeard used against him.
  • Despite his exceptional ability to analyze and imitate techniques, Lucas cannot identify the final principle behind the advanced Haki ability. His progress remains extremely slow.
  • While Lucas trains, Hina and Betty grow worried because he has gone several days without eating or resting. They use their concern as an excuse to secretly smoke, violating Lucas’s strict house rules.
  • Gion catches them, confiscates their cigarettes, and reminds them that smoking causes unpleasant side effects in the real world, including bad breath and yellow teeth. Baccarat also secretly disposes of her own hidden cigarettes.
  • After reflecting on how Luffy and Zoro awakened or utilized Conqueror’s Haki Infusion under extreme emotional and physical pressure, Lucas concludes that simple meditation is insufficient. He must place himself under genuine pressure to break through the final barrier.
  • Before seeking another challenge, Lucas uses the Life Energy from his Vampire-Vampire Fruit to heal the devastating chest wound Whitebeard inflicted on him. His destroyed tissue, muscles, and broken bones regenerate completely.
  • The healing process replaces his deliberately tanned skin with pale skin, which frustrates him because he now feels he looks unusually fair.
  • When Lucas returns to the villa, Gion is immediately captivated by his restored appearance and drags him into the bedroom, leaving the other women annoyed that she reached him first.

Character Developments

  • Lucas: Demonstrates patience, discipline, and analytical talent, but recognizes that Conqueror’s Haki Infusion cannot be mastered through imitation alone. He gains an important insight: overwhelming pressure may be necessary for true advancement. His regenerative abilities also return him to perfect health.
  • Gion: Acts as the responsible enforcer of Lucas’s household rules, but also shows strong attraction and possessiveness toward him when he returns.
  • Hina and Betty: Reveal their anxiety over Lucas’s prolonged absence and training, though their concern is mixed with a desire to smoke secretly.
  • Baccarat: Quietly joins the others in breaking the no-smoking rule, but hides the evidence when Gion intervenes.
  • The women collectively: Their worry for Lucas develops into playful rivalry and jealousy over his attention.

Significant Themes

  • Mastery through pressure: The chapter emphasizes that certain abilities cannot be learned merely through observation or intellectual analysis; they require emotional intensity, danger, and extreme personal pressure.
  • Limits of imitation: Even Lucas’s extraordinary learning ability has boundaries when confronting a technique rooted in willpower and individual experience.
  • Recovery and resilience: His ability to regenerate from Whitebeard’s devastating attack highlights both his physical durability and his determination to continue pursuing greater strength.
  • Domestic comedy in contrast to serious training: Lucas’s life alternates between deadly martial development and humorous household conflicts over smoking, hygiene, and romantic rivalry.
  • Power and the burden of advancement: Conqueror’s Haki Infusion is presented as a rare ability reserved for the strongest “kings,” reinforcing the idea that greatness demands exceptional trials.

Character Interactions

  • Hina and Betty discuss their concern about Lucas while smoking secretly, prompting Gion to reprimand them and enforce the household rules.
  • Gion contrasts the women’s melodramatic worry with her practical attitude, though she later reveals her own possessiveness.
  • Baccarat watches the confrontation and discreetly hides her own cigarettes, showing that the rule-breaking is widespread.
  • After Lucas returns, Gion immediately claims his attention, provoking frustration and jealousy from Baccarat, Betty, Hina, and Stussy.

Ch. 151An All-Out Battle: Lucas vs. Zatoichi (Part 1)

Chapter Summary: An All-Out Battle: Lucas vs. Zatoichi (Part 1)

Key Plot Points and Events

  • After several days of recovery and meditation, Lucas restores his essence, Qi, and spirit to their peak.
  • Seeking intense pressure to develop a new technique, Lucas challenges Zatoichi to a full-power battle.
  • They choose an uninhabited spring island near the beginning of the New World, allowing them to fight without restraint.
  • Zatoichi opens the battle with a powerful flying slash that cleaves through the ancient forest. Lucas counters with a scarlet slash, and the collision devastates the surrounding area.
  • Lucas transforms into a lightning-charged, winged form and attempts a high-speed attack. Zatoichi anticipates him with Observation Haki and traps him using Gravity Blade: Hell’s Journey.
  • Zatoichi’s gravity, reinforced by superior Busoshoku Haki, overwhelms Lucas’s defenses and crushes him into a deep crater.
  • Zatoichi summons meteorites from space through his gravity powers. Lucas forces himself upright, uses his enhanced electrical vitality, and destroys the meteors with Two Hundred Million Volts: Scatter Electromagnetic Cannon.
  • Using electromagnetic propulsion, Lucas closes the distance and attacks with Blood Shockwave, but Zatoichi’s gravity field pulverizes the blood before it can reach him.
  • Zatoichi counters with Gravity Blade: Raging Tiger, sending Lucas flying through the forest.
  • Lucas survives by forming massive metallic hands from underground minerals to catch himself. Despite his injuries, he remains energized and demands that Zatoichi fight more seriously.
  • Recognizing Lucas’s growing momentum, Zatoichi agrees to stop holding back and unleashes Gravity Blade: Fruit Shape, a massive compressed gravity field that tears up the earth and advances toward Lucas like an unstoppable bulldozer.
  • The battle ends on a cliffhanger as Lucas faces Zatoichi’s more serious attack.

Character Developments

  • Lucas: Demonstrates exceptional endurance, adaptability, and determination. His body becomes stronger under pressure, using electricity to stimulate his cells and boost his physical vitality. Rather than being discouraged by Zatoichi’s superior Haki and gravity techniques, Lucas grows more excited and confident, treating the battle as an opportunity to evolve.
  • Zatoichi: Initially fights casually, using what he considers moderate attacks while maintaining a calm and almost leisurely demeanor. After observing Lucas’s resilience and increasing fighting spirit, he acknowledges Lucas as a serious opponent and prepares to reveal his full power.
  • Lucas’s challenge also reflects his willingness to seek dangerous opponents deliberately in pursuit of martial improvement.

Significant Themes

  • Growth through adversity: Lucas deliberately places himself under overwhelming pressure to develop a new technique.
  • Escalation and hidden strength: Both fighters possess greater power than they initially reveal, with the battle repeatedly escalating as each responds to the other.
  • Haki versus Devil Fruit abilities: The chapter establishes that Haki can resist supernatural abilities, but stronger, denser Haki can overpower weaker Haki defenses.
  • Endurance and adaptation: Lucas repeatedly converts damage and setbacks into opportunities to change tactics and increase his momentum.
  • Calm mastery versus explosive determination: Zatoichi fights with controlled precision and confidence, while Lucas relies on aggression, improvisation, and an ever-rising battle spirit.

Character Interactions

  • Lucas directly asks Zatoichi for a no-holds-barred fight, framing the encounter as mutual training rather than personal hostility.
  • Zatoichi accepts partly because defeating Lucas quickly would leave him more time for gambling, emphasizing his relaxed attitude.
  • During the fight, Zatoichi warns Lucas before escalating his attack, showing both confidence and a degree of respect.
  • Lucas openly challenges Zatoichi to become more serious after surviving several devastating techniques.
  • Zatoichi recognizes Lucas’s resilience and responds by abandoning his restraint, setting up the next stage of the battle.

Ch. 152All-Out Battle, Lucas vs. Issho (Part 2)

Chapter Summary: “All-Out Battle, Lucas vs. Issho (Part 2)”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Lucas counters Issho’s massive mudslide and gravity attack with Iron Sand World Method, transforming a giant metal platform into a dense net of Armament Haki-coated iron spears.
  • The spears pierce through the mudslide and damage Issho’s gravity field, creating an opening for Lucas to fire Ketsudanpa, a highly compressed blood beam capable of slicing through Issho’s gravity defense and shaving away part of his Haki armor.
  • Lucas reflects that Issho’s strength demonstrates how powerful admirals would realistically be if they consistently used Armament Haki for defense, unlike certain exaggerated battles in the original timeline.
  • Attempting to exploit Issho’s blindness, Lucas unleashes an ultrasonic shockwave, hoping to disrupt Issho’s ability to hear. Issho reveals that he does not depend on sound to locate enemies and destroys the attack with Gravity Blade: Raging Tiger.
  • Lucas uses the shockwave as a distraction, suddenly appearing above Issho and firing 100,000,000 Volts: Electromagnetic Cannon through Dracule. The attack pierces Issho’s gravity armor and Haki defense, blasting open a large crater beneath him.
  • Lucas follows with a powerful sword assault. Issho blocks with Gambler’s Fireline but is forced backward by Lucas’s strength.
  • Lucas launches a storm of blood-red flying slashes, but Issho halts his retreat and counters with Gravity Blade: Checkpoint Break, destroying the incoming attacks and sending a gravity beam toward Lucas.
  • Lucas blocks with Riptide Burial, producing a huge blood pillar that is dispersed by the gravity beam. He then reforms the blood into countless Haki-coated spears and unleashes Bloody Hunt against Issho.
  • The chapter ends with the two combatants continuing their escalating battle.

Character Developments

  • Lucas demonstrates increasing creativity and tactical flexibility. He combines metal manipulation, blood techniques, ultrasonic attacks, electricity, swordsmanship, and battlefield deception rather than relying on a single fighting style.
  • He recognizes that Issho’s defensive use of Armament Haki makes him extremely difficult to injure, forcing Lucas to search for unconventional methods to break through his defenses.
  • Lucas’s confidence and daring grow as he repeatedly presses the attack, but he also acknowledges Issho’s overwhelming strength and openly admits that he must resort to “dirty tricks.”
  • Issho remains calm, analytical, and highly resilient. He quickly neutralizes Lucas’s sound-based feint, accurately predicts attacks, reinforces his defenses, and counters with precise gravity techniques.
  • Although Lucas manages to penetrate Issho’s defenses several times, Issho remains composed and capable of immediately regaining control of the battle.

Significant Themes

  • Realistic power scaling: The chapter emphasizes that elite fighters cannot simply endure attacks without consequence; effective Armament Haki is essential for defense, and damaging such opponents requires breaking through their Haki.
  • Adaptability versus overwhelming power: Lucas relies on ingenuity and layered strategies to challenge Issho’s superior defensive abilities, while Issho answers each trick with greater experience and mastery.
  • The gap between fiction and reality: Lucas reflects on how battles in the original timeline were shaped by plot convenience, whereas this world follows more consistent combat logic.
  • Escalation and endurance: Both fighters repeatedly destroy, counter, and rebuild their attacks, highlighting the immense stamina, control, and resilience required in their confrontation.

Character Interactions

  • Lucas verbally acknowledges Issho’s exceptional strength while simultaneously taunting and misleading him.
  • Issho responds with calm amusement, politely correcting Lucas’s assumption that sound can interfere with his perception.
  • Their interaction reflects contrasting personalities: Lucas is provocative, inventive, and aggressive, while Issho is composed, courteous, and unfazed.
  • Their exchange of techniques becomes a contest of strategy: Lucas creates openings through deception and combinations, while Issho relies on perception, defense, and overwhelming gravity counters.

Ch. 153Lucas's Conqueror's Haki Infusion

Chapter Summary

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Lucas unleashes “Myriad Swords Return to the Source,” using Electromagnetic Force to pull elemental metals from underground and create ten thousand Armament Haki-coated longswords.
  • Issho counters with “Riotous Journey,” generating a massive gravity field that stops and crushes the incoming blood spears and destroys more than half the swords.
  • The surviving swords gradually weaken the gravity field before breaking through and clashing with Issho’s blade.
  • The battle lasts ten days, completely destroying Spring Island and forcing both fighters to move their combat into the sky.
  • Lucas attacks with “Explosive Blood Shockwave,” while Issho repeatedly counters with gravity. Both fighters become severely exhausted.
  • Lucas’s Armament Haki advances dramatically, approaching the highest level. He also discovers that he can remotely disturb the blood inside Issho’s body, though Issho suppresses the effect with Haki.
  • Lucas and Issho launch their final attacks: Issho uses “Gravity Blade: Blood Smile Journey,” while Lucas counters with an unnamed technique formed through his sword and black-red lightning.
  • Their attacks collide in a massive explosion that tears open the clouds, devastates the sea, and ends the chapter on a cliffhanger.

Character Developments

  • Lucas demonstrates enormous stamina, destructive power, and increasingly refined Armament Haki. However, the battle reveals that his mental and Haki expenditure is immense, despite his physical endurance.
  • Lucas still has not achieved Conqueror’s Haki Infusion, the ability he has been striving toward, but his prolonged fight with Issho brings his Armament Haki close to the top tier.
  • His confidence has grown: he believes he could now affect even Whitebeard’s blood from a distance.
  • Despite his progress, Lucas remains cautious about his ultimate goal of freedom because he does not know the true strength of the hidden ruler controlling the world.
  • Issho proves himself an extraordinary fighter despite lacking a Zoan Devil Fruit or special physique. He survives ten days against Lucas through superior Haki efficiency, technique, and mastery of gravity.
  • Issho understands Lucas’s ideals and recognizes that Lucas is moving closer to the absolute strength required for freedom.

Significant Themes

  • Strength and freedom: Lucas views overwhelming power as the only path to liberation from the world’s hidden ruler.
  • Endurance versus efficiency: Lucas possesses greater physical reserves, but Issho uses his Haki more efficiently, forcing Lucas to expend several times as much energy.
  • Growth through extreme combat: The prolonged duel becomes a training ground, pushing Lucas’s Armament Haki beyond its previous limits even though he fails to achieve Conqueror’s Haki Infusion.
  • Mutual respect: Their battle is destructive and uncompromising, yet both fighters acknowledge each other’s strength and willingly commit to a final exchange.
  • The cost of power: Their confrontation destroys an entire island and threatens the surrounding sea and sky, emphasizing the environmental and physical consequences of their abilities.

Character Interactions

  • Lucas and Issho engage in a direct contest between blood manipulation, electromagnetic weapon control, and gravity.
  • Issho repeatedly neutralizes Lucas’s large-scale attacks, while Lucas overwhelms Issho through relentless output and sheer quantity.
  • Lucas attempts to disrupt Issho’s blood internally, but Issho counters by flooding himself with Haki.
  • Their dialogue briefly reveals their shared understanding of Lucas’s dream: Issho acknowledges his progress toward freedom, while Lucas admits that he remains far from his goal.
  • The chapter concludes with both men exhausting their remaining strength in a final attack collision, leaving the outcome unresolved.

Ch. 154Two Years Later, the Vinsmoke Family's Greatest Masterpiece

Chapter Summary: Two Years Later, the Vinsmoke Family’s Greatest Masterpiece

Key Plot Points and Events

  • On September 5, Sea Circular Calendar 1525, the Germa Kingdom operates from a floating, heavily fortified mechanical island in the New World.
  • Following the Stealth Black Incident, Judge relocated Germa into the sky, away from the World Government, allowing the family to focus on scientific and military development.
  • Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji undergo intense physical training, including high-speed running, hot-barrier jumping, and combat against genetically enhanced clone soldiers.
  • Sanji trains separately in a replica of Dressrosa’s Corrida Colosseum, fighting a dangerous criminal with a bounty above ten million Beli.
  • Sanji effortlessly defeats the much larger opponent with powerful kicks, including his technique Concassé, ultimately knocking the man into a high-voltage fence and killing him.
  • Judge proudly declares Sanji the Vinsmoke family’s “greatest masterpiece,” while the other three brothers are criticized for being unable to defeat anything stronger than clone soldiers.

Character Developments

  • Sanji: His dormant Lineage Factor awakened early due to Lucas’s influence, making him the strongest of the four brothers rather than the family failure seen in the original timeline. He displays remarkable speed, strength, combat skill, and confidence, but remains emotionally attached to Sora.
  • Judge: He is intensely proud of Sanji’s success and views him as the ultimate proof of his scientific achievement. However, he is also emotionally rejected by Sanji, who ignores him in favor of Sora. Judge takes out his frustration by harshly belittling Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji.
  • Sora: She remains loving and nurturing toward Sanji, comforting him after training and offering to prepare him food. Her affection contrasts sharply with Judge’s cold, achievement-based attitude.
  • Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji: The three brothers are shown as powerful but still far behind Sanji. Judge’s criticism humiliates them and motivates them to intensify their training.

Significant Themes

  • Nature versus scientific engineering: Sanji’s awakened Lineage Factor demonstrates the success of Judge’s genetic experiments, but his emotional bond with Sora shows that his identity is not defined solely by science.
  • Parental favoritism and emotional neglect: Judge openly favors Sanji as his greatest creation while treating the other brothers as disappointments. At the same time, Sanji’s lack of affection for Judge reveals the emotional cost of Judge’s parenting.
  • Strength and perfection: The chapter emphasizes Germa’s obsession with creating superior soldiers and measuring worth through combat ability.
  • Family dynamics: Scientific achievement creates power but does not guarantee affection or respect. Sanji’s relationship with Sora is warm, while his connection with Judge is distant and one-sided.

Important Character Interactions

  • Judge and the researcher: The researcher questions the wisdom of having Sanji fight a powerful criminal alone, but Judge confidently defends his son’s abilities.
  • Sanji and his opponent: Sanji dominates the battle through speed, precision, and powerful kicking techniques, proving that he has surpassed ordinary fighters despite his young age.
  • Sanji and Judge: Judge attempts to praise and welcome Sanji, but Sanji walks past him without acknowledgment, exposing the lack of a meaningful father-son bond.
  • Sanji and Sora: Sanji proudly reports his progress to his mother, and Sora responds with warmth and care, reinforcing their close relationship.
  • Judge and the other brothers: Judge compares them unfavorably to Sanji, calling them a disgrace and pushing them toward harsher training.

Ch. 155"Dead" Vampire

Chapter Summary: “Dead” Vampire

Key Plot Points and Events

  • At the docks of Dressrosa, Tea Beard and his pirates launch a violent assault against the king’s soldiers, believing that Lucas—known publicly as “Vampire”—died from injuries sustained in his battle with Whitebeard.
  • Repant, a dockside soldier and member of the Eternal Financial Group’s forces, fights back but struggles against Tea Beard’s enormous strength and swordsmanship.
  • Just as the pirates are about to break through into the town, Lafitte appears and blocks their advance.
  • Lafitte uses his hypnotic ability to seize control of Tea Beard, turning him against his own crew. With Tea Beard’s help, the soldiers wipe out the invading pirates.
  • Once the battle ends, Lafitte’s control causes Tea Beard to kill himself, reinforcing the terrifying reputation of the Eternal Financial Group and its officers.
  • At Lucas’s villa on the Yulo Peninsula, Betty informs him that a war is about to begin around Flevance. The neighboring nations are preparing to quarantine the country because of Amber Lead Disease, while the royal family has abandoned its infected population.
  • Betty asks to go help Flevance. Lucas agrees, publicly framing the decision as an act of justice, though he also recognizes the strategic importance of Trafalgar Law and the Op-Op Fruit, as well as his personal interest in Law’s family.
  • Several days later, at the Flevance border, soldiers shoot and kill two infected civilians attempting to cross the barricade. A young recruit questions the morality of the act but is silenced by his commander, who insists that soldiers must obey orders.
  • The chapter ends with the allied nations’ temporary command headquarters receiving an unexpected visitor.

Character Developments

  • Lafitte demonstrates his frightening psychological power and absolute loyalty to the Eternal Financial Group. His calm, theatrical manipulation of Tea Beard contrasts sharply with the chaos of the battlefield.
  • Repant proves himself a capable and disciplined combatant. Though shaken by Lafitte’s abilities, he immediately adapts and uses the hypnotized Tea Beard to turn the battle around.
  • Tea Beard is portrayed as arrogant and reckless. His assumption that Lucas is dead leads directly to his defeat, the destruction of his crew, and his forced suicide.
  • Lucas reveals a mixture of genuine concern, strategic calculation, and personal motives. He agrees to intervene in Flevance partly to save innocent people, but also because Law and the Op-Op Fruit could become valuable assets.
  • Betty is shown as compassionate and proactive. She wants to help Flevance’s civilians directly and successfully persuades Lucas to support the mission.
  • The young border soldier serves as a moral contrast to his commanders, showing sympathy for the infected civilians despite being pressured into obedience.

Significant Themes

  • Reputation and mistaken assumptions: Lucas’s two-year absence has led outsiders to believe that “Vampire” is dead, but this misconception only exposes enemies to devastating retaliation.
  • Power and fear: Lafitte’s hypnosis and the Eternal Financial Group’s influence show how psychological terror can be as effective as physical strength.
  • Obedience versus morality: The border soldiers follow orders to kill diseased civilians, while the recruit’s discomfort highlights the conflict between military duty and personal conscience.
  • Political abandonment and injustice: Flevance’s royal family and neighboring governments sacrifice ordinary citizens to protect themselves from Amber Lead Disease.
  • Pragmatism beneath heroism: Lucas’s decision to save Flevance is morally defensible, but it is also driven by political, strategic, and personal interests.

Character Interactions

  • Repant and Tea Beard: They clash as defenders and invaders, with Repant attempting to resist Tea Beard’s brutal advance.
  • Lafitte and Tea Beard: Lafitte humiliates and controls Tea Beard, transforming him from a victorious pirate captain into a weapon against his own men.
  • Lucas and Betty: Betty appeals to Lucas’s compassion and convinces him to act. Their affectionate relationship is reinforced by her kiss and his willingness to accompany her.
  • Border commander and recruit: Their exchange emphasizes the divide between unquestioning authority and individual moral doubt.
  • Lucas and the wider political world: Though absent from the public eye, Lucas’s reputation continues to shape events, and his return to action is positioned as the next major development.

Ch. 156Flevance, a Nation Destroyed

Chapter Summary: Flevance, a Nation Destroyed

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Lucas and Betty negotiate with the supreme commander of the allied forces for permission to enter and clear out Flevance. Betty claims they want the country’s remaining Amber Lead cosmetics, explaining that Eternal Financial Group has developed a way to remove Amber Lead’s toxicity.
  • To make their motives seem believable, Lucas pretends to be a henpecked, pleasure-seeking husband who uses his wealth to satisfy his wives. The commander accepts the explanation and obtains approval from several kings.
  • At Flevance’s border, Lucas and Betty are allowed through. They discover the country filled with corpses—victims of Amber Lead Disease, including mothers, children, and the elderly.
  • Lucas uses Observation Haki and determines that only two living people remain in the entire country.
  • They track one life signature to a burning hospital. Lucas enters the flames and rescues a badly burned young girl: Trafalgar Lami.
  • Trafalgar Law attacks Lucas, believing he is harming or taking Lami. Lucas knocks him unconscious with Conqueror’s Haki and places both siblings in Castle Space, where Betty and Nightin can treat them.
  • Lucas then unleashes an enormous lightning attack across Flevance. The energy destroys the buildings, incinerates the corpses, and burns the Amber Lead-contaminated soil into black glass. Enemy soldiers near the border are also caught in the devastation.

Character Developments

  • Lucas demonstrates his ability to manipulate public perception, adopting a foolish, wife-dominated persona to conceal his true motives. Beneath the act, he remains highly capable and decisive, using Observation Haki, Conqueror’s Haki, Haki armor, and overwhelming lightning power.
  • Betty shows both political cunning and genuine compassion. Although she publicly embraces the reputation of a greedy businesswoman, she is deeply affected by the suffering in Flevance and prioritizes saving the innocent over her own image.
  • Lucas and Betty’s relationship is portrayed as trusting and cooperative. Lucas supports Betty’s willingness to be hated and comforts her with a gesture rather than arguing against her decision.
  • Trafalgar Law is introduced in a desperate, grief-stricken state. His attack on Lucas reflects his fear and determination to protect his sister, while his collapse leaves him dependent on Lucas and Betty for survival.
  • Trafalgar Lami is rescued at the brink of death, establishing her survival as a major consequence of Lucas’s intervention.

Significant Themes

  • Appearance versus reality: Lucas and Betty disguise altruistic intentions behind greed because openly displaying kindness would make them vulnerable to exploitation.
  • The cruelty of a predatory world: The commander accepts profit as a credible motive more readily than compassion, revealing a society where strength and self-interest dominate.
  • Sacrifice and reputation: Betty willingly accepts being condemned as someone who destroyed a country for cosmetics if doing so allows Flevance’s survivors or resources to be saved.
  • Destruction as purification: Lucas’s lightning both obliterates the evidence of Flevance’s tragedy and removes the Amber Lead contamination, suggesting that rebuilding requires a complete break from the ruined past.
  • The cost of war and prejudice: The corpses and abandoned victims emphasize the devastation caused by disease, betrayal, and the surrounding nations’ treatment of Flevance.

Character Interactions

  • Lucas and Betty work together during the negotiation, with Betty presenting the “greedy” conditions while Lucas reinforces the illusion through his henpecked-husband act.
  • After leaving the commander, Lucas teases Betty about the damage to her reputation, while she makes clear that helping innocent people matters more to her than public opinion.
  • Lucas rescues Lami, then confronts Law when the boy attacks him. Rather than explaining himself, Lucas immediately incapacitates Law and arranges medical care for both siblings.
  • Betty follows Lucas’s instructions and goes to care for the rescued children, while Lucas remains behind to destroy Flevance and its contamination.

Ch. 157Treatment Plan for Amber Lead Syndrome

Chapter Summary: “Treatment Plan for Amber Lead Syndrome”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Betty recounts the Flevance tragedy, revealing that the World Government knew about Amber Lead’s dangers for a century but concealed the truth because of the mineral’s profits. Gion, Baccarat, Scarlet, and Hina condemn this negligence as deliberate mass murder.
  • Baccarat comforts Robin by suggesting that Lami may eventually become another companion who understands her suffering. Robin subtly reminds her that she already has someone who shares that pain, prompting Baccarat to correct herself.
  • At Germa’s laboratory, Lucas brings Trafalgar Law and Lami for treatment. Lami’s burns have already been healed by Lucas’s Life Energy, but the Amber Lead deposits remain in her organs.
  • Judge examines the siblings and explains three possible cures:
    1. Replace their diseased organs with cloned organs.
    2. Use the Op-Op Fruit to remove the organs temporarily and extract the Amber Lead.
    3. Have Lucas provide Life Energy so the Amber Lead can be surgically removed despite organ damage.
  • Law immediately chooses the cloning method because he does not want to depend on finding the Op-Op Fruit or ask Lucas to sacrifice his lifespan. Lucas overrides him and chooses the third option, insisting that the children have suffered enough.
  • Sora performs the operation, while Lucas provides his Life Energy through his blood. He waits outside, reflecting on his recent growth and preparations for a future conflict with the World Government.
  • Lucas has spent the past two years building a personal underground empire based on Devil Fruit and famous-blade trading, Full-Power Potions, intelligence gathering, and the expansion of the Pleasure District. He avoids especially cruel businesses such as drugs and human trafficking.
  • After mastering Conqueror’s Haki Infusion through his battle with Issho, Lucas has gained enough strength and resources to begin challenging the World Government’s influence. He continues training through occasional life-or-death battles with Issho.

Character Developments

  • Lucas demonstrates deep compassion and responsibility by willingly sacrificing part of his lifespan to cure Law and Lami. His decision also reinforces his role as their protector and benefactor.
  • Law shows maturity and gratitude. He rejects solutions that would endanger Lucas or rely on uncertain circumstances, revealing his strong principles and reluctance to burden others.
  • Lami remains emotionally affected by Lucas’s kindness, emphasizing how deeply her past suffering has shaped her.
  • Judge is initially dismissive of the siblings but becomes engaged once Lucas mentions Vegapunk. His scientific confidence is reinforced when he identifies multiple possible treatments.
  • Sora is presented as capable and medically knowledgeable, taking responsibility for the delicate surgery.
  • Robin and Baccarat share a moment of mutual understanding about surviving World Government oppression. Their exchange highlights Robin’s existing bond with Lucas.
  • Lucas is also shown developing strategically rather than merely physically. He is building money, influence, intelligence, and allies in preparation for breaking with the World Government.

Significant Themes

  • Institutional corruption and moral responsibility: The World Government’s concealment of Amber Lead’s dangers is portrayed as equivalent to intentional murder.
  • Healing and solidarity: Lucas’s willingness to sacrifice his lifespan contrasts sharply with the World Government’s exploitation of Flevance, showing the difference between selfless protection and profit-driven cruelty.
  • Found family and shared trauma: Robin, Law, and Lami are connected by experiences of persecution and loss, gradually forming a community of people who understand one another.
  • Science versus impossible illness: Judge’s technology and Lucas’s Life Energy offer solutions to a disease considered incurable by ordinary medicine.
  • Preparation for rebellion: Lucas’s underground businesses and intelligence network represent the accumulation of power needed to confront the World Government.
  • Personal limits and ethics: Although Lucas operates in the underground world, he maintains moral boundaries by refusing to engage in slavery, trafficking, or similarly inhumane practices.

Important Character Interactions

  • Gion, Baccarat, Scarlet, and Hina collectively condemn the World Government’s role in Flevance, while Stussy and Robin react more quietly due to their familiarity with its crimes.
  • Baccarat attempts to comfort Robin, and Gion reframes their personal grief as part of a broader shared struggle against the World Government.
  • Lucas and Judge clash mildly over treatment decisions, with Lucas provoking Judge by mentioning Vegapunk and later making the final choice himself.
  • Law objects to Lucas sacrificing his lifespan, but Lucas prioritizes the siblings’ recovery over his own cost.
  • Lucas’s kindness deeply moves both Law and Lami, strengthening their emotional bond with him.
  • Sora supports Lucas by taking over the operation, demonstrating the practical cooperation within his family and organization.

Ch. 158Sanji Wants to Grow Stronger

Chapter Summary: “Sanji Wants to Grow Stronger”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Sanji asks Lucas to train him, explaining that he wants enough strength to protect his family if another enemy as powerful as the former CP0 agent attacks Germa.
  • Lucas tests Sanji in the arena and spends more than five hours demonstrating advanced kicking techniques and applications of Busoshoku Haki.
  • Sanji memorizes nearly all of Lucas’s techniques. Lucas also offers to teach him swordsmanship, but Sanji refuses because he believes a chef must protect his hands.
  • In the Prodence Kingdom, Betty, furious over the political situation surrounding Flevance, encounters Macro’s fish-man slave-catching gang.
  • Betty deliberately lures the gang into a narrow alley, preparing to defeat them with Armament Haki.
  • Fisher Tiger arrives before she can act, recognizes the gang as fellow Fish-Man Street residents, and defeats them effortlessly.
  • Tiger apologizes to Betty for his men’s behavior. Betty chooses not to escalate the incident, warning him simply to control his people.
  • After Betty leaves, Tiger confronts Macro and demands to know why the gang attempted to target her.

Character Developments

  • Sanji: Demonstrates strong determination, loyalty, and growing martial potential. Although he is already the strongest among his brothers, he remains dissatisfied because he fears being unable to protect his family. His refusal to learn swordsmanship reinforces his commitment to being a chef and fighting with his legs.
  • Lucas: Acts as Sanji’s mentor and recognizes his potential. He teaches him a wide range of techniques, including skills from other fighting styles and worlds, hoping to help Sanji surpass his original potential.
  • Betty: Shows restraint and political awareness. Despite her anger toward the nations that endangered Flevance, she avoids reckless action that could harm civilians. She also handles the slave-catchers confidently and chooses diplomacy once Fisher Tiger intervenes.
  • Fisher Tiger: Displays overwhelming strength and authority among fish-men. His nervous apology to Betty shows his awareness of Lucas’s influence and the importance of maintaining relations with Lucas’s family.
  • Macro: Revealed as the leader of a slave-catching gang, but his confidence disappears when confronted by Fisher Tiger.

Significant Themes

  • Strength and responsibility: Sanji’s desire for power is motivated not by pride but by the responsibility to protect his family.
  • Family despite conflict: Sanji insists that even his abusive or estranged relatives remain family, revealing his compassion and sense of duty.
  • Fate versus personal choice: Sanji’s refusal to use swords suggests that certain aspects of his established path may remain unchanged despite Lucas’s influence.
  • Restraint and the greater good: Betty suppresses her anger because removing foreign kings could create even greater suffering for civilians.
  • Power, influence, and diplomacy: The encounter between Betty and Tiger highlights Lucas’s growing political and social influence, as well as the need for Tiger’s followers to avoid damaging those relationships.
  • Human–fish-man tensions: The slave-catching incident reflects continuing prejudice, exploitation, and distrust between humans and fish-men.

Important Character Interactions

  • Lucas and Sanji: Lucas challenges Sanji’s motives, then accepts his request and trains him extensively. Their relationship is affectionate and mentor-like, with Lucas treating Sanji as a younger brother-in-law.
  • Sanji and his family: Sanji admits that he wants to protect even family members with whom he has serious conflicts, emphasizing his moral difference from them.
  • Lucas and Sanji regarding swordsmanship: Lucas encourages Sanji to explore another combat style, but Sanji firmly maintains that a chef’s hands must be protected.
  • Betty and Macro’s group: Betty recognizes their hostile intentions and tactically prepares to defeat them.
  • Fisher Tiger and Macro’s group: Tiger humiliates and defeats the slave catchers, then demands an explanation for their actions.
  • Betty and Fisher Tiger: Tiger apologizes for the gang’s behavior, while Betty responds with controlled authority, choosing warning and restraint over punishment.

Ch. 159Lami: I Can Never Repay Brother Lucas's Great Kindness, So I Can Only...

Chapter Summary

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Lucas contacts Hancock through a secure Den Den Mushi after being absent from public view for two years. He also speaks separately with Reiju, Koala, and Baby 5, maintaining his relationships with each of them.
  • Lucas explains that he spent the first year expanding his underground territory and the second traveling with the Kuja Pirates aboard the Perfume Yuda. His disappearance was deliberate, allowing rumors about him to spread while he strengthened his position and deepened his bonds with the women around him.
  • Lami emerges from a successful operation that has cured or eliminated the effects of Amber Lead Disease. Lucas’s Life Energy and specially infused blood were crucial to repairing her body and keeping her alive during the procedure.
  • Lami and Luo, now appearing as young adults, enthusiastically thank Lucas. Luo solemnly pledges his life to Lucas, while Lami attempts to express her gratitude in a more romantic manner before Luo stops her.
  • Lucas assigns Luo to train at the Shimotsuki Dojo in East Blue. Luo accepts immediately, eager to repay Lucas and become useful to him. Lucas hopes Luo will eventually connect with Zoro and Kuina.
  • Lucas tells Lami that she is still too young to pursue a relationship with him. He offers to send her to a women-only country to train and mature; if her feelings remain unchanged after several years, he will reconsider. Lami happily accepts.

Character Developments

  • Lucas: Demonstrates careful long-term planning, emotional investment in his companions, and continued concern for their growth. He acts as both benefactor and mentor, arranging appropriate futures for Luo and Lami rather than keeping them dependent on him.
  • Hancock, Reiju, Koala, and Baby 5: Their relationships with Lucas remain strong despite his disappearance. The conversations show affection, jealousy, and mutual reassurance.
  • Lami: Has physically matured because of the treatment and is finally free to display the lively personality suppressed by her disease. Her gratitude toward Lucas has developed into romantic affection, which she openly hints at.
  • Luo: Becomes more disciplined and formal than his sister. He feels profound loyalty toward Lucas and willingly accepts training so he can eventually serve him.
  • Lami and Luo: Their sibling relationship remains playful and contrasting—Lami is impulsive and flirtatious, while Luo is serious, protective, and concerned with proper etiquette.

Significant Themes

  • Repayment of kindness and loyalty: Luo and Lami view Lucas’s actions as debts they may never fully repay, motivating their devotion to him.
  • Healing and new beginnings: Lami’s successful treatment represents freedom from the disease that controlled her childhood and allows both siblings to imagine a future beyond survival.
  • Growth through independence: Rather than personally controlling their development, Lucas sends Luo and Lami away to gain strength, maturity, and experience.
  • Affection and restraint: The chapter combines romantic attachment with Lucas’s insistence that Lami mature before pursuing a relationship.
  • Strategic preparation: Lucas continues building alliances and shaping future connections, particularly through Luo’s planned association with the Shimotsuki Dojo, Zoro, and Kuina.

Character Interactions

  • Lucas and Hancock exchange affectionate but teasing words, with Hancock pretending to be jealous when Lucas asks about the other women.
  • Lucas warmly reassures Lami after her operation, while Luo reprimands her for being overly familiar and forces her to show Lucas proper respect.
  • Luo offers Lucas complete loyalty through a formal prostration and pledge.
  • Lami imitates Luo’s gesture but tries to turn her declaration of gratitude into a romantic confession, prompting Luo to cover her mouth.
  • Lucas gently rejects Lami’s immediate romantic advances while leaving open the possibility of a future relationship if her feelings remain unchanged.

Ch. 160Complete Justice

Chapter Summary: “Complete Justice”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Betty tells Lucas that several Fish-Men, including Macro’s gang, attempted to harm or kidnap her.
  • Lucas becomes furious and initially wants them killed, but Betty persuades him not to act directly because they may still need Fisher Tiger’s influence on Fish-Man Island.
  • Instead, Lucas devises a legalistic revenge plan. He asks Gion which Marine commander is nearby, and she directs him to Vice Admiral Sakazuki at G-3 Branch.
  • Lucas secretly plants a large quantity of illegal drugs aboard Macro’s ship, along with a falsified transaction ledger. He also arranges for two women, previously given the First Embrace, to impersonate drug couriers and provide convincing testimony.
  • Sakazuki arrives at Prodence Kingdom with Doberman and a Marine force. After detecting two people aboard the ship, the Marines raid it and discover the entire vessel filled with powder.
  • The two planted dealers are interrogated and “confirm” Macro’s involvement. When Macro, Tans, and Gyaro return drunk and protest the Marines’ presence, Sakazuki burns the incriminating ledger and attacks them.
  • Sakazuki’s magma instantly kills Tans and Gyaro. Macro tries to escape, but Sakazuki kills him as well.
  • Fisher Tiger intervenes with Fish-Man Jujutsu, attempting to block the attack and objecting to the Marines killing his men.
  • Sakazuki interprets Tiger as the gang’s leader and declares that he, too, must be eliminated. The chapter ends as Sakazuki launches himself at Tiger in magma form.

Character Developments

  • Lucas: Reveals a ruthless but calculated side. Rather than openly attacking Macro’s group, he engineers a situation in which the Marines will legally eliminate them, allowing him to punish his enemies while preserving his public image.
  • Betty: Demonstrates emotional importance to Lucas and practical judgment. Although touched by his desire to avenge her, she prevents him from damaging their broader political relationship with Fisher Tiger.
  • Gion: Shows strategic awareness by deliberately directing Lucas to Sakazuki, knowing the hardline commander will respond with overwhelming force.
  • Sakazuki: Is portrayed as an uncompromising believer in absolute justice. He treats the drug shipment as an evil requiring total destruction and shows no hesitation in killing suspects or attacking Fisher Tiger.
  • Fisher Tiger: Displays loyalty toward his subordinates and a strong sense of justice. He believes Macro’s crimes, even if real, do not justify immediate execution and challenges the Marines’ excessive punishment.
  • Macro, Tans, and Gyaro: Their arrogance and criminality are emphasized through their drunken boasting, exploitation of women, and involvement in drug trafficking. Macro’s cowardice becomes apparent when he sacrifices his own men to escape.

Significant Themes

  • Absolute versus compassionate justice: Sakazuki believes justice must be complete and uncompromising, while Tiger argues that punishment should be proportional to the crime.
  • Manipulation of institutions: Lucas weaponizes the Marines and the legal system to carry out personal revenge without directly exposing himself.
  • Law as a tool for vengeance: The operation appears to be a legitimate anti-drug raid, but its evidence and witnesses were fabricated by Lucas.
  • Loyalty and responsibility: Betty protects Lucas from acting rashly, while Tiger risks confronting the Marines to defend his followers.
  • Prejudice and unequal justice: The Marines’ swift execution of Fish-Men, combined with the chapter’s focus on drug crimes and attempted kidnapping, raises questions about whether justice is being applied fairly or selectively.

Important Character Interactions

  • Lucas and Betty: Betty calms Lucas’s murderous anger and reminds him of their need to maintain ties with Fisher Tiger. Lucas responds affectionately but secretly plans a different form of revenge.
  • Lucas and Gion: Their brief exchange shows mutual understanding. Gion recognizes Lucas’s intentions and points him toward Sakazuki.
  • Sakazuki and Doberman: Doberman questions why Sakazuki is personally handling a minor gang, but Sakazuki justifies it because of the enormous quantity of drugs supposedly aboard the ship.
  • Marines and the planted dealers: The dealers’ staged conversation and coerced testimony convince the Marines that Macro’s group is part of a major trafficking operation.
  • Sakazuki and Macro’s gang: Sakazuki refuses to negotiate and immediately executes the Fish-Men once he confirms the apparent evidence.
  • Sakazuki and Fisher Tiger: Tiger challenges the killings, but Sakazuki views his defense of Macro’s group as proof that Tiger is also part of the criminal organization. Their confrontation sets up the chapter’s cliffhanger battle.
