Moonlight filtered through the curtains into the room, falling over Goku and Launch. Launch lay on her side beside him, secretly watching the sleeping Goku, warmth and sweetness filling her heart. She leaned closer and could not resist kissing his cheek. Her cheeks flushed faintly, and her heartbeat quickened.
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the windows, but Master Roshi and Krillin were utterly drained by last night's "pufferfish" dinner. Master Roshi clutched his stomach and called weakly, "Krillin, today's training... is canceled."
Krillin nodded, but kept muttering, "Why am I so unlucky? How did I end up eating something like that...?"
Launch asked with concern, "Are you two all right? Do you want me to make you something good to eat?"
"It's fine. We'll be better after some rest," Master Roshi said reluctantly, the smile on his face still pained.
At four o'clock the next morning, while it was still dark, Master Roshi got up early and quietly went to Krillin and Goku's beds. He gently patted their shoulders. "Get up! Today, we begin martial arts training!"
Krillin groggily raised his head and rubbed his eyes. "So early..."
Goku, meanwhile, sprang up excitedly, a brilliant smile on his face. "I'm ready!"
"Hmph, you're always so full of energy," Krillin muttered as he slowly got up, yawning.
Just then, Goku had a large backpack slung over his shoulders, and it looked rather heavy. Master Roshi asked curiously, "Goku, what are you carrying that bag for?"
Goku answered, "It's a fifty-kilogram weighted backpack!"
Master Roshi and Krillin were both startled. Master Roshi said in surprise, "You're putting yourself under such pressure right from the start of your training. You really are a hardworking kid!"
Krillin replied helplessly, "Just how far are you trying to push yourself, Goku?"
Goku grinned. "If I want to become a stronger martial artist, of course I have to work hard!"
Master Roshi sighed, unable to suppress a feeling of gratification. "All right, then let's see where your limits lie. Are you ready to begin training?"
"Anytime!" Goku answered confidently.
Master Roshi led Goku and Krillin on a run to the milk shop in town. The three adjusted their breathing as they ran. Though Master Roshi was no longer young, his steps were light and swift, no slower than Goku or Krillin's.
When they reached the milk shop, Master Roshi pointed at the rows of milk bottles and said with a smile, "Today's training is to deliver these bottles door to door. Every bottle must be placed in the milk box outside each home, and you're not allowed to spill a drop! Finish before the sun rises. Do you understand?"
Krillin looked at all the milk bottles, and his face immediately fell. He muttered under his breath, "What kind of training is this? This is clearly just delivering milk..."
Goku and Krillin each picked up a crate of milk and began running door to door, delivering it according to Master Roshi's instructions. Master Roshi ran alongside them, occasionally correcting their posture and teaching them how to stay steady while running. Goku quickly found his rhythm, his movements smooth and his feet swift. Krillin struggled a little, but seeing Goku's enthusiasm, he refused to be outdone and gritted his teeth as he ran.
"Run faster! Don't stop!" Master Roshi kept setting the pace in front of them, constantly urging them to speed up.
Goku and Krillin lay on the ground, panting and completely exhausted. Master Roshi stood beside them, smiling broadly. "That was only the pre-dawn training. Next comes the morning training!"
Hearing that, Goku wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked at Master Roshi. "Old man, what are we doing next?"
Krillin, however, wore a miserable expression as he sprawled on the ground and groaned, "There's more? I'm already dead tired..."
Master Roshi clapped his hands without mercy. "Next is farm work! You'll help the farmers plow their fields. Remember, no tools. Use your hands to hoe the soil and pull weeds. It will build your arm strength and endurance."
Goku immediately got to his feet and nodded. "Got it! As long as it's training, no matter how hard it is, I'm fine with it!"
Krillin sighed and slowly climbed to his feet. Though he grumbled inwardly, he did not want to look weak in front of Goku. He patted his own face to pull himself together, then followed Goku toward the fields.
After Goku and Krillin painstakingly finished plowing the fields with their hands, they were starving. Master Roshi took them back to Kame House, ready to enjoy the hearty breakfast Launch had prepared.
The table was covered with the delicious breakfast Launch had cooked. The moment Krillin saw the food, his eyes lit up. Just as he was about to dig in, he carelessly picked up the pepper shaker on the table and waved it beside Launch. As a result, pepper spilled out and went straight up Launch's nose.
Launch suddenly sneezed. Gentle Blue-haired Launch instantly turned into ferocious Golden-haired Devil Launch. Her eyes sharpened, and without another word, she pulled out a machine gun and unleashed a fierce barrage at Master Roshi, Goku, and Krillin!
Master Roshi's face turned white with fright. He grabbed Goku and Krillin, and the three fled the dining room in a flash. Hiding outside the house, Master Roshi sighed. "Sigh, looks like we can only eat out today."
Goku and Krillin looked at each other, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. So Master Roshi led them running all the way to a nearby little restaurant, where they finally managed to eat a meal in peace.
After breakfast, Master Roshi brought Goku and Krillin back to the entrance of Kame House. Mysteriously, he pulled two books with suggestive covers from his robes and handed them over. Master Roshi said, "Our task this morning is to study! We need to cultivate your concentration!"
Goku and Krillin took the books and opened them in confusion. Their faces instantly turned bright red. Krillin muttered softly, "Master Mutaito, what kind of studying is this...?"
Master Roshi explained solemnly, "These are excellent materials for concentration training! You must focus and read them aloud from beginning to end, training yourselves to stay focused no matter what you encounter!"
Goku and Krillin obediently began reading aloud.
Master Roshi stood to one side, secretly delighted as he watched them read so earnestly. However, he did not notice Launch watching from the window inside. Blue-haired Launch looked thoroughly confused, having no idea what kind of "studying" they were doing.
By noon, the blazing sun hung high overhead. Master Roshi took Goku and Krillin beneath the shade of a large tree, spread out a grass mat, and lay down leisurely, closing his eyes for a comfortable rest.
"Training is important, but a midday nap is also part of training," Master Roshi said. "You must learn to relax at the right time in order to maintain abundant energy."
Goku lay down as well. Though he was full of energy, he thought a nap sounded nice. Krillin flopped onto the mat and quickly grew drowsy from exhaustion. The three of them rested beneath the tree, accompanied by the breeze, and drifted into a brief midday nap.
After their nap, Master Roshi led Goku and Krillin to the road beside a canyon. The construction site was bustling with activity as workers sweated profusely, carrying stones and sand. Master Roshi smiled at Goku and Krillin. "This afternoon's training is to repair the road with everyone else. It will train your strength and endurance."
Goku excitedly began carrying stones. Krillin was somewhat helpless, but he had no choice but to throw himself into the physical labor as well. Sweat ran down their cheeks, and their arms gradually began to ache.
Master Roshi watched leisurely from the side, encouraging them from time to time. "Good work! To become a martial arts master, training your fists and feet alone is not enough. Everyday physical strength is also very important."
Goku gritted his teeth and persevered, but he understood Master Roshi's intentions. The tougher the training, the faster I'll improve!
They arrived at the lakeside. Goku and Krillin stood by the water, looking at the shimmering surface, feeling a hint of chill. Master Roshi told them to swim to the opposite shore and back as training. Without another word, Goku jumped into the lake and swiftly swam toward the other side. At first, Krillin tried to maintain his pace, but when he saw how fast Goku was swimming, he hurriedly sped up as well.
Halfway across, Goku saw a huge dark shadow flash through the water. It was a shark! The shark rapidly approached them. Goku swam even faster, trying to shake it off. When Krillin saw the shark following beside him, his heart tightened, and he desperately paddled harder.
The two swam to the opposite shore with all their strength. Seeing that it could not catch them, the shark gradually stopped. Master Roshi waved from the shore, signaling them to swim back at once. Goku and Krillin took another deep breath and swiftly headed back toward their starting point, finally making it back to shore safely before the shark could approach again.
By evening, the three finally returned to Kame House. Goku and Krillin's legs had gone weak from exhaustion, and they could barely move. Master Roshi said with a smile, "From now on, the training will become even stricter. Krillin will also have to wear a twenty-kilogram Turtle Shell through all of his training every day."
