The office door opened, and a travel-worn Lucci walked in.

More than half a year on the road had added a weathered edge to his already stern features, but his eyes had grown sharper than a hawk's. His inseparable pigeon companion, Hattori, perched on his shoulder.

Lucci's voice remained as calm as ever, devoid of unnecessary emotion.

As always, he used no honorific for Dawn. He did not even address him by name.

Dawn took no offense. He accepted the documents and lowered his head, quickly leafing through them. The information on the pages was more detailed than Lucci's verbal report, complete with rough diagrams and even secretly taken photographs.

He was thoroughly satisfied with Lucci's competence. This boy, only nine years old, displayed professionalism and efficiency far beyond the average person.
