Background
Lucci was trained at the Cipher Pol facility on Guan Hao Island, where he stood apart from the other trainees through his discipline and exceptional talent. He continued training alone at night with his white pigeon, Hattori, after the other children had returned to their dormitories. Even the chief instructor handled him cautiously due to his potential. 31 32
When Dawn infiltrated and destroyed the facility, Lucci witnessed the instructors’ defeat and was offered a place under Dawn. He rejected the offer until he could test Dawn’s strength himself, but was decisively defeated and taken from the island unconscious. 33
After witnessing Dawn kill CP0 agent Joseph and unleash a technique resembling Rokuogan, Lucci accepted Dawn’s demand for service. His allegiance remains conditional: he openly intends to kill Dawn and replace him if Dawn ever becomes weaker. 37 38
Personality
Lucci is cold, proud, and intensely focused on strength. He dismisses emotional attachments as pointless distractions and considers weaker people beneath him. 41 43
His confidence is matched by fearlessness. Rather than submit to Dawn immediately, he challenged him despite witnessing Dawn slaughter the Cipher Pol instructors. Even after losing, he retained his ambition and made his service conditional on eventually surpassing Dawn. 33 38
Lucci’s principal flaw is his bloodlust. During his first independent raid, he massacred everyone aboard a slave-catching ship—including the captives—while neglecting the actual objective of securing supplies. Dawn gave him a score of zero and resolved to correct his lack of discipline. 41
Abilities & Skills
Six Powers
Lucci is an accomplished user of the Six Powers, with combat ability far beyond ordinary fighters of his age. 33 41
- Soru — Moves at speeds fast enough to appear as an afterimage, allowing him to cross a ship’s deck and kill opponents before they can react. 41
- Geppo — Travels through the air by stepping on it, enabling rapid flight across the sea. 41
- Shigan — Uses finger strikes capable of piercing hearts and rapidly perforating opponents’ bodies. 33 41
- Tekkai — Instinctively used to endure the repeated impacts of Dawn’s Dark Hell Paradise Drop. 33
Close-Quarters Combat
Lucci specializes in direct, lethal engagements and attacks vital points without hesitation.
- His Finger Pistol: Spot barrage was described as fiercer than the instructors’ attacks at Guan Hao Island. 33
- He can eliminate ordinary armed opponents in moments through speed and precision. 41
- His attacks failed against Dawn’s extraordinary physical durability; striking Dawn’s palm shattered several of Lucci’s fingers. 33
- Lucci recognizes that Dawn has surpassed him in Six Powers mastery, particularly after seeing Tiger Radiance Fist. 37
Relationships
- Dawn — Captor, commander, and intended rival. Dawn defeated and forcibly recruited Lucci; Lucci serves him while declaring he will take Dawn’s place if he ever becomes stronger. 33 38
- Hattori — Lucci’s white pigeon companion. Hattori followed Dawn after Lucci was taken unconscious from Guan Hao Island. 33
- Kaku — Fellow former Cipher Pol trainee and subordinate of Dawn. The two train together and leave emotional disputes behind to focus on improving themselves. 43
- Kalifa — Fellow former Cipher Pol trainee who entered Dawn’s organization after the destruction of the training base. 38
- Cipher Pol chief instructor — Former superior at Guan Hao Island. Lucci regarded the instructors as weak and agreed with Dawn’s assessment that remaining under them would waste his talent. 32 33
Story Role / Major Arcs
Cipher Pol Training Base
Lucci was present when Dawn trapped the Guan Hao Island instructors and trainees within a prison of darkness. Initially dismissing Dawn as helpless, he witnessed the intruder evade the instructors’ coordinated assault and kill them. 32
After Dawn killed the chief instructor, Lucci refused recruitment without a fight. His Finger Pistol attacks proved ineffective against Dawn, who broke his fingers, restrained him, and rendered him unconscious with Dark Hell Paradise Drop. 33
Forced Recruitment
Lucci remained imprisoned aboard Dawn’s airborne ship alongside Kaku and Kalifa while Dawn fought Joseph. Observing Dawn’s Tiger Radiance Fist, he concluded that Dawn had surpassed him in the principles behind Rokuogan. 37
Following the destruction of the training island, Lucci chose to serve Dawn rather than die, but framed his acceptance as a challenge for leadership rather than loyalty. 38
Slave Ship Raid
Dawn assigned Lucci his first independent raiding mission against a disguised slave-catching vessel. Lucci used Soru, Geppo, and Shigan to kill Captain Isaac, the crew, and every other person aboard, but ignored the Devil Fruit and supplies that were the mission’s real target. 41
Dawn criticized his failure to prioritize the objective, giving him a zero score. Lucci did not verbally admit fault, but returned to the ship’s cabin to collect valuables. 41
West Blue Intelligence Network
Dawn later placed Lucci in charge of establishing an intelligence network across the West Blue. His assignment is to investigate the five major Underworld families, including their businesses, personnel, transport routes, partners, and promising recruits. 45
