The setting sun cast its afterglow across the long steps outside the Ninja Academy gates, stretching four shadows of different lengths.
Ye, Guy, Obito, Asuma.
This utterly bizarre training squad had just stepped out of the school gates.
Two Konoha Chunin came swaggering toward them, arms slung over each other's shoulders.
Their green flak jackets hung open, and the heavy stench of alcohol mixed with sweat and the sour reek of cheap sake drifted straight into their noses on the breeze.
They had clearly gone straight to an izakaya after finishing a mission. Their eyes were unfocused, and they were half-drunk.
One of them swept his gaze over the group and fixed his eyes on Guy, dressed in a green bodysuit.
The man suddenly stopped, then jabbed his companion with an elbow, his voice loud enough for half the street to hear.
"Yo! Isn't this the useless son of Might Duy, that eternal Genin?"
The Chunin raised a hand, pointed at Guy's nose, and laughed so hard he nearly doubled over.
"He dresses as disgusting as his dad. Like some giant green toad turned human. I'm dying here!"
The other man took a swig from the last of his flask, let out a drunken belch, and chimed in.
"Exactly. If I had a father who'd been a Genin his whole life, I'd have smashed my head into a block of tofu long ago. Who'd still have the nerve to swagger around the village every day?"
Asuma frowned, while Obito's brows shot up. Both clenched their fists, ready to explode.
But Guy acted as though nothing had happened. His head was slightly lowered, his shoulders drawn tight, and his fists clenched hard at his sides.
His nails nearly dug into his flesh, and his knuckles cracked from the force.
Without saying a word, he turned sideways and reached for Ye's sleeve, intending to go around them.
"Let's go, Ye."
Guy's voice was soft, but the effort he was making to suppress his trembling was clear.
"My dad taught me that the blood of youth isn't meant to deal with this kind of pointless mockery."
Guy could endure it.
But Ye had no intention of enduring it.
Ye stopped and brushed Guy's arm aside with the back of his hand.
With both hands in his pockets, he slowly walked up to the two Chunin.
He stopped, tilted his head up slightly, and stared at them expressionlessly.
"Apologize."
Just two words, flat and crisp.
The red-faced, thick-necked Chunin froze for a moment.
He looked down at the Ninja Academy freshman, who barely reached his waist, as if looking at an idiot.
"Did I hear that right?"
The Chunin grinned, showing yellowed teeth. "You little brat still wet behind the ears, you actually dare tell us to..."
Before he could finish.
The pure black in Ye's eyes vanished in an instant, replaced by a Kurenai glow that filled his sockets.
A One-Tomoe Sharingan spun wildly in his pupils, and killing intent flashed forth.
With the explosive physical power of a Peak Genin, ample Chakra, and the Sharingan's enhancement, Ye's body left an afterimage where he stood.
No hand seals. No pointless probing.
He launched himself off the ground.
His right fist tore through the air with a dull sonic boom.
Bang!
His knuckles struck the tipsy Chunin squarely and precisely on the jaw.
The enormous crack of breaking bone exploded outside the quiet school gates, sending chills down everyone's spine.
The Chunin did not even have time to groan.
His hundred-and-thirty-pound body was launched off the ground, spinning two and a half times through the air like a broken kite.
Crash!
He plunged headfirst into a trash bin ten meters away, knocking over three buckets of slop as the back of his head smashed heavily against the edge of a wooden barrel.
His eyes rolled back on the spot. He did not even struggle before going completely still.
Obito and Asuma stood on the steps with their eyes nearly popping out, both sucking in a sharp breath.
One punch?
Instantly defeated?
That was a genuine adult Chunin!
[Ding! Shock Points from Obito Uchiha, +333!] [Ding! Shock Points from Asuma Sarutobi, +444!]
The remaining Chunin sobered up completely, his pupils shrinking violently.
"You little bastard! You're courting death!"
He roared, spreading his legs into a stance and rapidly raising his hands to form seals.
But he had no chance.
"You bullied my cherished friend! Unforgivable!"
Guy's eyes turned Kurenai as he let out a roar that pierced the clouds.
The green figure shot forward like a cannonball. With a textbook Leaf Hurricane, his right leg swept fiercely at the man's lower body amid a howling gale.
The Chunin was shocked. Unable to finish his hand seals, he could only leap into the air to evade.
But once he was airborne, two figures completely sealed off his escape routes.
Obito and Asuma were fired up too, their hot blood rushing to their heads.
Who cared whether he was a Chunin or not? Big Brother Ye had already made a move. Whoever backed down now was a coward!
Ye stood where he was, his eyes locked tightly onto the Chunin in midair, seeing through every contraction of muscle and every trajectory of force.
"Three steps left. His lower body is open."
Ye coldly called out the opening.
The instant he finished speaking, he rushed forward and kicked the man precisely in the abdomen, instantly breaking his balance.
Then Guy's heavy punch, Obito's elbow strike, and Asuma's sweeping kick came crashing down like a violent storm.
Bang!
Smack!
Thud!
The poor Chunin had barely landed and did not even have a chance to regain his balance before being dragged into a mercilessly righteous group beating by the four of them.
Amid the chaotic street brawl, Ye maneuvered around him and added strikes whenever he could.
Guy handled the damage and broke through his defenses, while Obito and Asuma pinned down his arms from either side.
The Chunin was beaten so badly that he could not fight back. Bruised and swollen, he curled up on the ground, clutching his head and wailing in pain.
Even the fingers he tried to use for hand seals were stomped Kurenai by Asuma.
[Ding! Recognition Points from Might Guy, +999!] [Ding! Recognition Points from Obito Uchiha, +999!] [Ding! Recognition Points from Asuma Sarutobi, +999!]
Ye listened to the notifications in his mind without changing expression.
This haul was insanely profitable.
Passing civilians and students leaving school stopped one after another, and the crowd grew larger and larger.
Cries of alarm rose everywhere. Seeing that things had gone wrong, someone quickly ran off to report it.
Less than three minutes later, a rapid, orderly set of footsteps approached from afar.
A squad of ninjas in Konoha Security Police uniforms pushed through the crowd and charged into the scene aggressively.
The fan clan crests embroidered on their chests were especially striking beneath the sunset.
The squad captain, Uchiha Yehuo, swept his eyes over the mess covering the ground.
Then he looked at one man hanging out of a trash bin and another rolling around on the ground while clutching his head, his face turning livid.
"Stop!"
Nohibi placed a hand on the hilt of his ninja sword, strode forward, and shouted sternly.
"You dare gather a crowd for a brawl outside the Ninja Academy gates? You even beat up Chunin from the village!"
"This is utter lawlessness!"
"Arrest every one of these troublesome brats!"
The onlookers sucked in a cold breath.
Obito's face turned green, while Asuma's legs went weak.
Win and go to jail, lose and go to the hospital. That was an iron law of the Shinobi World.
Asuma was already wondering whether he should bring up his father, the Hokage, to intimidate them.
Two Security Force members approached expressionlessly with iron cuffs in hand.
Just as the handcuffs were being brought forward, Ye dusted off his hands and slowly turned around.
He looked straight at the captain, his expression showing slight surprise.
"Huh?"
Ye dragged out the word. "Isn't this Big Brother Nohibi?"
Uchiha Yehuo's brow furrowed sharply as he looked closely.
When he saw Ye's face clearly, along with the One-Tomoe Sharingan in his eyes that was slowly fading away, he froze as well.
Just an hour ago, at the high-level meeting!
The Elder's roar as he slammed the table, spraying spit all over everyone's faces, seemed to still echo in his ears.
"Uchiha Ye is the future blade of our clan! All clan resources will be prioritized for him! He is to be protected at all costs!"
Besides, even before Ye had entered the Ninja Academy, he had often visited the Security Force, calling everyone big brother or uncle as he politely asked them questions.
He was sweet-talking and respectful. Which elder in the clan did not like such a sensible little genius?
Nohibi had also guided him in shuriken techniques plenty of times and was exceptionally fond of Ye.
With all those factors combined.
Nohibi's cold, demon-like face underwent the ultimate Sichuan opera face change in one-tenth of a second.
One second, he was an iron-faced judge; the next, he had become the friendly big brother next door.
He abruptly slapped the handcuffs out of his subordinate's hand.
"Oh my!"
Nohibi cried out as he walked over to Ye and rubbed Ye's head.
"So it's Ye! What happened here? Did you hurt your hand?"
The crowd instantly fell silent.
Even the Chunin on the ground forgot to wail.
Ye spread his hands and pointed at the two men on the ground, his tone calm.
"These two insulted my friends for no reason, so we defended ourselves.
What is it, Big Brother? Did we break the law? Are you going to arrest me?
How about I go back with you and squat in a cell for a few days?"
Nohibi froze. Arrest you?
The Elder would skin me alive overnight!
Nohibi abruptly straightened up, his expression switching instantly to one of righteous solemnity.
He waved a large hand and declared loudly and firmly.
"Ha! What law did you break!"
"No, wait, there was a violation! But those two are the ones who broke the law!"
"Causing trouble in public! What you did was an act of bravery! You were promoting Konoha's righteous spirit!"
Before you continue
