The alley fell deathly silent once more.
After an unknown amount of time, Shimura Renya groaned as he crawled up from the muddy ground.
Clutching his old face, swollen like a pig's head, he hissed in pain.
He hadn't seen wrong!
He absolutely hadn't seen wrong!
Konoha had definitely been haunted tonight by some cursed "Green Lantern Ghost," and that ghost fucking loved striking when people were taking a leak!
He staggered to his feet and scrambled along the wall toward a private residence nearby.
He pushed open the half-closed, unlatched courtyard gate.
Renya had just opened his mouth to call his lover's name. His hand had just touched the doorframe when he suddenly froze.
The inner room was lit, and two overlapping silhouettes were cast against the window lattice.
A man and woman's breathless moans and flirtatious conversation drifted clearly into the courtyard on the night breeze.
"You bastard, be gentler... He won't suddenly come back, will he?"
The woman's voice was coy and reproachful.
The man replied with a teasing laugh, "Relax."
"That old bastard has never come at this hour. He's probably at home getting nagged by that ugly hag. Let's keep going."
Boom!
Renya's hand slipped from the doorframe.
Those two sentences instantly fried Shimura Renya's CPU.
The expression on his face shifted from shock and fury to blankness, then from blankness into something impossibly complicated, something beyond the range of human emotion.
He lowered his head and looked at his mud-stained trouser legs, then touched his cheek, swollen high into the air.
Green light.
A glowing green figure.
A crushing kick straight to the face.
Renya's pupils trembled violently.
He... understood...
What ghost could possibly exist in this world?!
This was clearly the manifestation of the "Green Lantern God"!
The deity had slapped him in the face with green light, then kicked him awake with a massive slap, all to remind him that he was being cuckolded!
Three seconds later.
Shimura Renya's legs gave out, and he dropped stiffly to his knees on the cold stone slabs with a thud.
Ignoring the adulterous pair inside, he abruptly turned toward the alley entrance, toward the direction where those three clusters of green light had vanished, and reverently slammed his head to the ground.
His forehead struck the stone with a dull thud.
"Thank you, Green Lantern God, for enlightening me!"
Shimura Renya wept bitter tears, his sobs earth-shaking. "This believer understands! I understand everything!"
The next morning.
Heavy dark circles hung beneath Obito's eyes. He had been put through hell for half the night, yet he was brimming with energy.
He held his back ramrod straight and strode right beside Ye, looking every bit like a fiercely loyal little lackey.
He chattered nonstop, reciting his insights from last night's demonic handstand training as if chanting scriptures.
"Grrr."
Ye's stomach growled very uncooperatively.
"Take a detour. Let's get some dango from the dessert street ahead to fill our stomachs."
Ye casually changed direction.
Obito nodded repeatedly without a shred of objection. He now obeyed Ye's every command without question.
The moment they rounded the street corner, they found the road ahead packed solid with villagers watching the commotion.
Outside a messy storefront by the roadside, two Konoha Security Police officers had a drunkard's arms twisted behind his back and pinned him firmly into the mud.
The drunkard was none other than Shimura Renya.
He reeked of strong sake mixed with the pungent stench of rancid swill, and the right side of his face was swollen terribly.
There were still dried streaks of blood at the corner of his mouth.
"What right do you have to arrest me?!"
Renya craned his neck, struggling desperately and howling like a madman.
"I'm not crazy! Beating up that shameless dog of a man and woman was following the will of heaven!"
"The Green Lantern God bestowed a divine miracle!"
"Green light shone upon my forehead. That was the god's will!"
At those words, Obito shuddered violently.
He quickly retreated behind Ye, guiltily hunching his shoulders as his eyes darted everywhere.
Ye remained expressionless as he bit into a freshly bought grilled rice cake and watched with great interest.
One of the Security Force officers stepped forward, grabbed Renya by the hair, and examined him closely. He then leaned over to whisper his report into the ear of the squad captain, Uchiha Yehuo.
"Captain, I know this old bastard."
"He's from the Shimura Family. He usually skims money over in the Logistics Department."
At the mention of the words "Shimura Family," Yehuo's eyebrows shot up.
The open and covert struggle between the Uchiha and Danzo's faction had long since been out in the open.
Now that such a huge ready-made handle had been delivered right to his doorstep, Yehuo would be betraying this uniform if he acted polite about it.
"Shimura Family? Then we fucking need to arrest him!"
Yehuo waved a large hand, his voice ringing like a bell.
"Openly spreading an evil cult and provoking trouble in the street by assaulting villagers!"
"Lock up this lunatic and that man and woman inside! Escort them to our Uchiha prison and keep them under strict guard!"
The iron chains rattled as the three were locked together in a line and marched away with a clanking of shackles.
Obito hid behind the crowd, swallowing frantically. His gaping mouth was wide enough to fit an entire streetlamp.
"Good heavens..." Obito's voice drifted weakly.
"One casual kick last night, and it directly kicked off the drama of the year: catching an affair in the act?"
Not only had it exposed an affair, it had also legitimately sent one of Danzo's lackeys straight into Uchiha prison for room and board!
Without even turning his head, Ye bit into his grilled rice cake, his tone utterly calm.
"Relax. This is called accumulating virtue and doing good. What goes around comes around."
"Obito, you're a man blessed with tremendous fortune."

Thirty seconds before the class bell rang, the two finished buying their dango and stepped into the First Year Class One classroom right on time.
The buzzing chatter abruptly stopped.
Dozens of eyes turned in unison toward Ye and Obito, their gazes so complicated that words could not describe them.
There was resentment, accusation, and silent cries of, "You lunatics ruined my childhood."
Quite a few students who had not gone home had witnessed last night's miserable wilderness training firsthand.
Might Guy's wild roaring at the Training Ground, coupled with Ye's remarks yesterday about "grind kings," had completely driven this group of slackers into a corner.
They had thought Ye's claim about crushing geniuses one-handed every day was just empty posturing. They had never expected these lunatics to actually mean it!
Early that morning, several civilian students in the front row had dark circles around their eyes.
At least twelve freshmen had crawled to school, dragging limbs so sore they were practically deformed.
Some rubbed their cramping wrists, while others kneaded their aching thighs.
Ignoring those looks, Ye returned to his seat in the back row and sat down expressionlessly. Familiar notifications began flooding his mind.

They were scattered, but there were plenty of them.
Without lifting a finger, he steadily collected a wave of Emotion Points.
Gang Ziyun walked onto the platform with a stern face, carrying a thick stack of lesson plans.
He swept his gaze across the silent classroom, his eyes lingering on Ye for two seconds.
He drew a deep breath and spoke in an extremely restrained tone.
"Uchiha Ye's diligent spirit in training is worthy of the entire class's study."
The moment he finished, Gang Ziyun immediately turned around and picked up the chalk to write, refusing to add another word and cutting off the topic with extreme stiffness.
By usual practice, after praising a student, the teacher would certainly have that student come up and share their experience.
But Gang Ziyun had learned his lesson.
The last time he had Ye share his experience, Ye had directly turned the entire class into a pyramid scheme rally.
Now, he only wanted to make it safely to vacation and would never give that scheming little brat another chance to open his mouth and cause trouble.
