Background and history

Minato’s wife, Kushina Uzumaki, is the Nine-Tails’ jinchūriki and is restricted from leaving Konoha. His wish to become Hokage is partly driven by the hope of changing the rules that confine her 103 158.

Hiruzen assigns Minato to teach Ye, Obito, Kakashi, and Rin, judging his speed and gentle temperament especially suited to handling Ye 91 93. Minato passes all four after their bell test, then reports Ye’s Ice Release to Hiruzen and is ordered to prioritize Ye’s training 99 100. Their relationship also becomes a technical exchange: Ye completes the Rasengan Minato has been developing, and Minato grants him access to the Flying Thunder God scroll in return for its principles and training method 105.

During the Third Shinobi World War, Minato leaves Ye in command of the Kannabi Bridge operation while he reinforces another front. Personality

Minato is a patient instructor who praises sound tactics even when his students fail to overcome him. He treats Rin’s request for special training seriously and examines her chakra control rather than offering empty reassurance 96 102. His calm manner does not lessen his battlefield reflexes: when Ye appears behind him without warning, Minato teleports into a potentially lethal counterattack, then immediately apologizes 96 97.

He is protective of his family and students, but repeatedly puts urgent duties ahead of seeing Kushina 134 160. After witnessing the Ōtsutsuki threat in a future timeline, he abandons his initial plan to erase the group’s memories. He decides that preparing their world matters more than obeying the rules against carrying information across timelines 268.
