There was a man beside her, but he was half-dead and looked unlikely to wake anytime soon. She could not count on him at all.
Song Zhizhi felt waves of heat gathering in her lower abdomen. The unbearable sensation inside her body was even worse than before, as though ten thousand ants were burrowing through her, gnawing at her flesh and blood. It hurt and itched without pause, making her wish she could simply die and be done with it.
Song Zhizhi staggered toward the cliff. Death was death either way; rather than die after enduring endless torment, she might as well end it herself and suffer less.
Song Zhizhi did not notice that when she turned toward the cliff, the man behind her opened his eyes. His gaze was blank and confused. Before he could make sense of the situation, he saw Song Zhizhi's resolute back as she headed for the edge.
The man called out instinctively, "Miss, wait!"
Song Zhizhi paused. Before she could turn around, she felt someone pull her back.
Song Zhizhi's body was weak and limp, and she crashed into the man's arms, striking the wound that had yet to heal.
They both let out muffled groans. The man lost his footing and fell to the ground with Song Zhizhi.
Song Zhizhi was on top, the man beneath her. Her nose struck his hard collarbone, and the pain jolted her awake for a moment, but the increasingly surging effects of Spring Day Powder soon swallowed her reason again.
"Hot..." Song Zhizhi caught the man's cool, crisp scent, mixed with a heavy smell of blood. It was not unpleasant; instead, it called to mind a snow lotus blooming high in the mountains. To Song Zhizhi in that moment, it was irresistibly tempting.
Unable to help herself, she wrapped her arms around the man's neck and buried her head in the hollow of his neck, rubbing against him like a cat. Her warm breath brushed his sensitive neck like a weightless feather, sending a numb tingle through him.
Song Zhizhi could not resist biting his collarbone. She did not use much force; rather than a bite, it was more like a kiss. The warm touch traveled upward from his collarbone to his Adam's apple.
The man froze as if struck by lightning. The roots of his ears swiftly turned crimson, and only after a long while did he react. He wanted to push Song Zhizhi away, but her clothes were disheveled, and he did not know where to put his hands. All he could do was say in a trembling voice, "M-Miss, men and women... should not touch..."
Author's note:
Content warning: the female lead was indecisive and timid in the early stages. She worried about this and that, and only grew up in the middle and later parts of the story. The male lead was not a villain in the traditional sense, and he did not turn evil.

Men and Women Should Keep Their Distance
Song Zhizhi could not hear what the man was saying at all. Her actions were controlled by the drug as her slender, pale arms looped around his neck. A sobbing note entered her voice. "I feel awful..."
The man closed his eyes, feeling the scorching heat radiating from the soft body in his arms. His cheeks flushed crimson as he helplessly pulled Song Zhizhi away. "M-Miss, men and women should keep their distance. You cannot do this..."
"I'm hot..." Feeling the cool scent move away, Song Zhizhi immediately frowned in dissatisfaction. Her vision had become hazy under the drug's effects, and her tearful almond eyes were full of helplessness—but it was clearly not a normal reaction.
The man saw that something was wrong with Song Zhizhi's condition. "M-Miss, did you accidentally consume something?"
Song Zhizhi did not answer him. Her entire body burned like a furnace. Her snow-white skin was tinged with pink, tears seeped from the corners of her eyes from discomfort, and broken, beastlike whimpers escaped her throat.
Her pale, scallion-white fingertips unconsciously tugged at her collar. Her robe had loosened, exposing her delicate, slender collarbones.
The expanse of snowy skin dazzled the man for a moment. Then, as though burned, he hurriedly turned away.
A flush spread from the tips of the man's ears to his face, until even his neck was red. "M-M-Miss..."
He instinctively grabbed Song Zhizhi's hand to stop her from tugging at her clothes. Turning back toward her, he kept his gaze restrained above her neck. "Forgive my offense."
He formed a hand seal and bound Song Zhizhi, then raised his hand and drew her collar closed, concealing that broad expanse of snowy skin.
Yet seeing how miserable Song Zhizhi looked, he did not know what to do.
Something seemed to flash through his mind, but when he tried to think further, he could not remember anything.
Song Zhizhi could not move and could only look at the man with hazy, tear-filled eyes, appearing pitiful beyond measure.
"I'm hot... I feel awful..." Pain showed on Song Zhizhi's face.
After thinking for a moment, the man formed another hand seal, condensed a huge block of ice, and stuffed it into Song Zhizhi's arms. The ice made her shudder, and her mind cleared considerably.
The memories from just now came rushing back. Song Zhizhi looked at the man, embarrassment surfacing on her face—she had actually hugged and nibbled on a man she had only just met, like some female pervert. What she had done would have gotten her sued for sexual harassment in modern times.
Seeing that Song Zhizhi had regained her senses, the man immediately let out a sigh of relief.
However, because he had forcibly used spiritual power while his severe injuries had not healed, his face was several shades paler than before.
Song Zhizhi weakly hugged the ice block. "Thank you."
The man shook his head, blushing. "The ice can only temporarily ease your symptoms, Miss. I am unworthy of your thanks. What poison have you been afflicted with? How can it be cured?"
Cured?
Song Zhizhi secretly examined the man. He sat upright on the ground, his appearance as unearthly as an exiled immortal. Though covered in blood, it did not diminish his cool and noble bearing in the slightest. Even when she had lost her senses to the drug just now, he had not taken advantage of her. Clearly, he was an upright gentleman, pure as the breeze and bright as the moon.
"Well..." Song Zhizhi lowered her head, concealing the darkness in her eyes as she said softly, "I was poisoned by Spring Day Powder. There is no antidote for Spring Day Powder. To cure it, there is only one way."
"What method? You saved me just now, Miss. As long as it is within my power, just say the word." The man looked at Song Zhizhi with great sincerity.
Seeing his earnest expression, Song Zhizhi could not quite tell whether he truly did not know what Spring Day Powder did or was only pretending not to.
