v3.24 brings festivals: the menu dresses up for 16, each with a title to earn. Google Translate gets a better engine that keeps glossary names, and RandomLord (Bot) answers readers.
Festivals#
- The menu wears the festival. During a festival, the logo becomes a small animated scene and the whole menu takes its colours, in every reading theme. The motion stops if your device asks for reduced motion.
- 16 festivals, under their real names: New Year, Lunar New Year, Lantern Festival, Valentine's Day, Holi, Qingming, Dragon Boat, Qixi, Ghost Festival, Mid-Autumn, Double Ninth, Diwali, Halloween, Winter Solstice, Christmas and Sect Founding Day. Each has its own coloured Home icon, and the name under the logo opens a web search for it.
- Festival titles. Read on enough days during a festival to earn its title for that year, such as Night Parade for Halloween. A festival you've earned in several years shows as one row, and festival titles have their own group in the picker.
- The scene fades smoothly into the menu along a slanted wave, in light themes too, and its hanging decorations start inside the scene.
- Fixed: a white gap beside the banner in the phone menu.
Google Translate#
- A better Google engine. Free chapters now use the same translation Chrome uses for whole pages, and it read best in our blind comparison. Glossary names go in with the sentence, so Google builds the sentence around the name and the name stays yours.
- Older chapters are being re-made in the background, so they get better over time without you doing anything.
- Fixed: the first hours of the switch backed up the queue, and some chapters waited longer than they should. Re-makes of old chapters now wait whenever readers' chapters are in line.
RandomLord (Bot)#
- RandomLord (Bot) is the site's bot account. It answers reader reviews and comments, with the site icon as its avatar and a Bot tag beside its name. It isn't a moderator and has no moderator powers.
- Its own title: Heavenly Dao, in the new Primordial tier above Mythic, which it shares with the founder's Dao Ancestor.
- Reports and glossary suggestions that no moderator gets to first can be decided by RandomLord (Bot). See Reporting.
- Hardened against tricks. What readers write is only ever text it reads, never instructions it follows. Its replies can't carry mentions, images or off-site links, and a link to this site must be a novel or chapter page.
Titles and Discord#
- Account-age titles: Outer Disciple at 90 days, Inner Disciple at 1 year, Core Disciple at 2, Sect Elder at 3 and Grand Elder at 5.
- Some titles are harder now, and a new one sits above them. Habit Unlocked takes 20 days (was 7), Walking Codex 2,000 wikis (was 1,000), Sleep Is Optional 800 chapters (was 500), Multiverse Tourist 11 genres (was 9) and Golden Finger 30 awards (was 20). Akashic Record is a new Mythic title at 5,000 wikis. If you already hold one, you keep it.
- Link your Discord account on the Account page. On our Discord server, a linked member wears a coloured role for a worn title of Epic or higher.
- A new Discord feed posts the titles readers earn, as an hourly digest and spotlights for rarer ones.
- The sidebar footer shows the title you're wearing.
Reading#
- A source's advert lines are removed for all its novels. Once readers remove a line in 2 novels from one source, or a moderator removes it, it's cut wherever that source appears. It shows in the chapter's Removed list, marked as site junk.
- Two ways back: Restore here keeps the line in that chapter, for any signed-in reader. Not junk asks for it back everywhere, and a moderator's takes effect at once.
- The reader's chapter list is wider, so titles have more room.
- The novel page's chapter list loses its floating up and down control, as the list is paged now.
- Wiki text is a step smaller, for long reads.
- Fewer empty chapters. A chapter whose heading matches the one before it, but carries its own number, is no longer refused.
- Moving a novel to a source that lists pages instead of chapters no longer pairs chapters with the wrong text.
- More of twkan's disguised advert lines are caught.
- Some fsuzw novels that failed on every refresh update again, and shuhaige loads more reliably.
Translation and names#
- Idioms keep their imagery in Urban and Modern Romance novels, and in fan fiction set in a Chinese canon such as Douluo. Naruto or Marvel fan fiction translates them by meaning.
- In Japanese-set and Western-set fan fiction, the author's own characters get fitting names: romaji or Western spellings, not pinyin. It applies to new names only.
- Renames are more accurate. A rename no longer rewrites another character who shares the old English name, and a shorter name inside the old one no longer hides it.
- A sequel belongs to its first work's fandom. Soul Land II to IV are Douluo Dalu now, and a few other sequels fold in the same way. Old Browse links and saved searches go to the fandom they became.
Search and Home#
- English alternate names find the novel. A title under Also known as now works in search.
- An exact name comes first in title search, whether it's the title or an alternate name, followed by names that start with it.
- Home is shorter. The Completed section is gone. A new reader sees Trending above the comments, with no Latest Updates.
Reports and requests#
- Fixed: wiki report notifications could link the wrong novel. They now link the wiki of the novel you reported on, with a View wiki button.
- A 👎 sends the chapter for retranslation straight away when the check confirms it, not the next time someone opens it.
- A source switch that couldn't be made says so, and the reader who reported it is told, instead of seeing a plain approval.
- Retranslate Metadata really redoes the description. Before, a translated novel's description stayed as it was.
- Novel requests fail less. A backlog on one source no longer makes new requests from it fail.
- A pasted biquge.tw chapter-list link is now a valid request.
- The Request page's Currently Processing panel refreshes before it opens, so the rows don't jump after you tap.
Fixes and polish#
- The account menu has six rows: Profile, History, Downloads, Limits (Membership when signed out), Account and Sign out.
- Fixed: a digest's Read link could point at a chapter with no page.
- Fixed: a Patreon sign-in that failed could leave the installed app waiting.
- Search boxes beside square controls have square corners, so the toolbar reads as one row. Search boxes on their own stay rounded.
- The wiki index's My library is a toggle box, like the glossary's Mine.
- The Library table's title column takes at most half the table, so the other columns have room.
- The Account page shows your DaoSearch link as soon as it opens, and a long name on a profile keeps the small Mod tag beside it.
- Empty lists use one text size across the site.
