"That extraordinary spider and the Deer King before us are both known as Exotic Beasts in our biosphere. These rare individuals are extremely valuable for research, but they often possess incredible abilities. Forget capturing one—most people would be lucky even to encounter one.
"The White River Deer King has appeared in legends around the White River Yangtze for over a hundred years. They say it's a huge, multicolored stag that guides lost herb gatherers out of the forest when the mist rolls in.
"But I'd only heard the legend. I'd never encountered it before.

Xia Shu had never said so much at once. As she explained, she collected the White River Deer King's blood, clearly distressed by its death.
Exotic Beasts like this were often one of a kind. With the White River Deer King dead, there might never be another in the world.
Xia Shu then began dissecting the White River Deer King. As she examined it, she said, "Just as I thought. There's no trace of Insectification anywhere in its body. The Insect Wave probably has no effect on Exotic Beasts."
"So that's why Insect Character didn't work on it," Nameless thought, the answer suddenly clear.
He had found it strange that Guess the Text worked on other Insectified Beasts but had no effect on this giant deer.
Now he knew why: the White River Deer King was no Insectified Beast. It was an Exotic Beast, just like that spider.
Of course, some Exotic Beasts were stronger than others.
The White River Deer King had been ambushed and bitten to death by an Insectified Beast, so it clearly wasn't among the strongest.
