Return-to-Ancestry Egg

Broom Dragon wanted to leave with Zhang Ping.

It had never left this place. Without someone to go with it, it did not dare leave.

"If... if you help me deal with the things down below, I'll eat that stone. Is that okay?" It turned its head and asked Zhang Ping hesitantly.

Down below?

Zhang Ping paused. "What's down below?"

"A-Nian said I couldn't leave this place whenever I wanted. As long as I'm here, the things below will be afraid of me and won't wake from their sleep. That's why I have to stay," Broom Dragon explained.

Zhang Ping narrowed his eyes. "You mean there's another level beneath this one?"

"I don't know. A-Nian only said there's something very dangerous down there that I need to keep suppressed," Broom Dragon answered.

Zhang Ping looked at the ground. His gaze pierced through it, revealing a dense mass of black eggs.

There really is something down there.

He looked at Broom Dragon. "If I take care of everything below, you'll eat the Contract Gem?"

"Yes," Broom Dragon agreed.

This was what A-Nian had wanted it to do. A-Nian was gone, but it would at least see this one thing through!

Zhang Ping smiled. "Good. It's a deal!"

"A deal!" Broom Dragon nodded.

Zhang Ping smiled faintly and looked back at the ground.

Red light erupted from his eyes. He traced a circle on the ground, and in the blink of an eye, it collapsed into an opening.

"I'll be right back."

Zhang Ping spoke to Broom Dragon, then jumped down.

He landed on the floor of the next level and looked at the carefully protected Black Eggs. They resembled fish roe. Though pitch-black, they were faintly translucent, and up close he could make out the creatures inside.
