This system was almost absurdly simple and blunt. Swallow an Energy Stone, and as long as you did not explode, you gained a random superpower. You could even strengthen that power by using it repeatedly.
Nameless felt it was rather like the Awakened system of the Lashao Universe. The only difference was the source of the superpowers.
In the Lashao Universe, superpowers came from the Dark King's Base Runes. In this system, they came from miraculous Energy Stones. Living beings could digest these stones, which then produced a special energy that transformed the human soul and gave rise to all kinds of superpowers.
The energy those superpowers consumed varied, too.
The price an Awakened paid depended on their ability, and the kinds of energy consumed were all over the map. Superpowers from the Energy Stone System, on the other hand, consumed Mental Strength—one single, pure source.
A brief comparison was enough for Nameless to understand.
Energy Stones acted on the soul, so naturally they consumed Mental Strength alone. The Awakened, by contrast, used Base Runes to carve out their own superpowers, so naturally they consumed whatever motley assortment of elements they possessed.
