"Won't you save him?"
Yeqin fell silent for a moment before asking curiously despite herself.
At the same time, she began to wonder whether Nameless was a lolicon. Had he saved her purely because her current appearance matched his tastes?
"Do you think I'm stupid?" Nameless frowned and shot back.
Without waiting for Yeqin to ask, Nameless continued, "That monster looks pretty powerful. Adrian and I aren't close, so who knows whether he'd sell me out the moment I tried to save him.
"What if he runs away and leaves me to deal with that monster? Wouldn't I be the sucker then?"
"But you..." Yeqin wanted to say something more.
Nameless interrupted, "If he were lying somewhere safe and needed my rescue, I'd definitely help him. But we're neither friends nor family. There's no way I'd take such a huge risk to save him. Maybe one of the four votes on me was cast by him?"
"I thought you'd rush in to save people without thinking." Yeqin finally said, sounding somewhat relieved.
Nameless lay across the table and smiled. "So that's the kind of person you think I am. Well, sorry to disappoint you, but I might not be quite what you imagined. I'm not the kind of person who can sacrifice myself for others. I'm just a rescuer. When it's within my power, I save the people I see. That's all."
Now, every second, countless dead souls flowed from the Dream River into the Nameless Sea. The number of sea spirits was constantly increasing, and the boundary between life and death was no longer so clear in his eyes.
He saved people because that was what he had always done, and because he could empathize with the sincere joy of life each person he saved revealed upon being rescued.
