The moment Jessica finished speaking, a pitch-black, bloated humanoid monster burst around the corner. Tumors covered its body, and six mouths grew from its head. Each mouth gaped open to reveal a long tongue with an eye at its tip.

It had charged too fast to stop. Its attempt to skid around the corner failed, and it slammed into the wall. The black surface shattered, spraying a dense hail of black fragments in every direction.
Nameless saw a chunk of black matter hurtling toward him. He immediately raised a Psychokinesis shield and a Bioforce Field shield while striking at it with one hand.

Two sounds rang out, neither particularly loud nor particularly soft.
To his surprise, the black matter had pierced his palm. A dark ring of Corruption seemed to have formed around the wound.
He immediately used his other hand to sever the injured one, then swiftly dodged the remaining black matter.
