The instant the torches went out, Owl and Sa both floated up, their feet leaving the ground.

Their reasons were different, however. Unable to see, Owl had instinctively floated up to avoid being attacked by an Eight-Treasure Snake, while Sa had seen one approaching and deliberately risen into the air.

Although Sa had no night vision, her expanded visual range allowed her to see things she normally should not have been able to see, such as the flesh and bones beneath a snake's skin.

That made Eight-Treasure Snakes easy for her to identify.

Different snakes had completely different skeletons.

Black-Ring Snakes had larger bone joints, with each black ring corresponding to a joint. Their joints were therefore the key to identifying them.

Yin-Eroded Dungeon Snakes were the largest snakes here, the biggest measuring five meters long. A long snake with thick bones was a Yin-Eroded Dungeon Snake.

Eight-Treasure Snakes had very distinctive skulls, actually shaped like the Eight Trigrams. All she had to do was look at their skulls to identify them.

Finally, Fire-Tail Snakes were the only snakes here that could be seen in the dark. Their tails resembled clumps of flame. Although they emitted no light, they were highly reflective, bouncing back even the faintest glimmer. Everyone could thus vaguely make out patches of firelight swaying about.

Although Sa had spotted an approaching Eight-Treasure Snake, she did not dare shoot recklessly. It was on the ground, and she was worried about accidentally hitting someone else.

Still, their decision to float up had not exactly been the right one.

The moment they rose, a gust of wind blew them both toward the rock the fat old man had thrown onto the ground. Sa quickly grabbed Owl's hand and shouted, "Owl, go up! We're going to crash!"

Hearing her, Owl
