After the group entered Kunlun’s Immortal Land and gathered its treasures, Duan De left an Emperor Weapon Embryo in the protected sanctuary, then learned that Immortal Medicine still remained there.

  • Lin Xian transformed into Ye Fan and impersonated Emperor Zun, while Duan De recorded the performance and Ye Fan struggled to distinguish himself from the role.

Ch. 398Great Saint Hun Tuo Mediates

Summary: “Great Saint Hun Tuo Mediates”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • The Immortal Mirror returns from Deathless Mountain after announcing that the Immortal Ascension Road is about to open. The Restricted Area Supremes agree to meet on the road, honoring the ancient Emperor Pact despite their ruthless nature.
  • The news stirs the entire universe. Lower-level cultivators dream of becoming immortals, while Saints and higher-level figures recognize that the road will likely trigger catastrophic bloodshed.
  • The Ancient Clans begin questioning their war against the Human Race. Since immortality is their ultimate goal—and the Human Race has demonstrated overwhelming strength through its many Emperor Weapons—many clans favor negotiation over continued conflict.
  • Great Saint Qianlun invokes Myriad Dragon Emperor’s ideal of coexistence among all races, encouraging the Ancient Clans to seek peace.
  • The Human Race remains divided. Younger factions demand extermination of the Ancient Clans, while established holy lands and emperor lineages prefer compromise, fearing the Restricted Areas, the loss of Emperor Weapons, and the heavy casualties of a true war.
  • Ye Fan reports that only the Great Xia Dynasty is firmly prepared to fight to the death. Yaochi favors a Myriad Races Assembly, the Ji Family fears Deathless Mountain, the Jiang Family is cautiously aligned with Heavenly Court, and Yaoguang unexpectedly offers strong support.
  • Lin Xian concludes that the proposed negotiations are not genuine reconciliation but merely a two-hundred-year truce. He decides to pursue a larger strategy: unite the Human Race and Ancient Clans against the Dark Turmoil, while first eliminating Ancient Clans loyal to Immortal Emperor.
  • To begin this plan, Lin Xian summons Great Saint Hun Tuo and appoints him mediator. Hun Tuo enthusiastically approaches the Ancient Clans, preaching coexistence and peace.

Character Developments

  • Lin Xian shifts from defending only the Human Race to planning an alliance between the Human Race and Ancient Clans against the greater threat of Dark Turmoil. His idealism is tempered by political realism, as he recognizes that the Human Race lacks the unified strength for a total war.
  • Ye Fan displays both ambition and self-awareness. He believes that if his Sacred Body reached completion, he could end the political divisions through sheer strength, but he rejects comparisons between himself and Emperor Zun, who was rumored to have sacrificed others for immortality.
  • Hun Tuo becomes the chapter’s comic yet strategically useful peace envoy. He is delighted to discover that someone in the Human Race shares his belief in peace and eagerly undertakes the role of mediator.
  • The Human Race’s major factions are revealed to be politically cautious. Though united when facing weaker enemies or common threats, they hesitate to risk their strongest assets and foundations in a deadly confrontation with Ancient Emperor Clans.
  • The Ancient Clans grow less belligerent as the Immortal Ascension Road approaches and as internal divisions weaken their position.

Significant Themes

  • Peace versus survival: Calls for coexistence are motivated not only by idealism but also by fear of mutual destruction and the approaching Immortal Ascension Road.
  • Political unity and factionalism: The Human Race appears united through Heavenly Court, but its alliances are fragile and dependent on shared interests rather than genuine loyalty.
  • The cost of power: Emperor Weapons, Great Saints, and hidden foundations are treated as irreplaceable strategic assets, making leaders reluctant to sacrifice them even for righteous causes.
  • Immortality as the universal goal: Both Human and Ancient Clans ultimately view territorial conflict as secondary to the pursuit of immortality.
  • Pragmatism versus principle: Lin Xian wants peace, but his plan includes destroying Immortal Emperor’s loyalists first, showing that peace may require calculated violence.
  • Historical cycles and the danger of repeating Emperor Zun’s path: Lin Xian’s comparison of Ye Fan to Emperor Zun raises the possibility that the pursuit of immortality could corrupt even seemingly righteous figures.

Important Character Interactions

  • The Restricted Area Supreme declares that the factions will meet on the Immortal Ascension Road, while the Immortal Mirror warns the world to prepare.
  • Ancient Clan leaders invoke the teachings of Myriad Dragon Emperor to support coexistence.
  • Lin Xian and Ye Fan discuss the Human Race’s weakness, factional divisions, and the danger of becoming like Emperor Zun.
  • Lin Xian and Hun Tuo form an alliance based on the language of peace, though Lin Xian privately intends to use Hun Tuo’s mediation to advance a broader political and military strategy.
  • Hun Tuo then visits the Ancient Clan patriarchs and Great Saints, urging them to abandon bloodshed and cooperate for the sake of the coming Immortal Ascension Road.

Ch. 399[Misfortune God Body, Immortal Death Persuasion]

Hun Tuo urged the Ancient Clan to seek peace after the Human Race displayed its strength, but Ye Fan agreed to talks while ordering God Spirit Valley destroyed. The Silver-Blood Tribe joined the Heavenly Court, leaving other Ancient Clan races wavering over whether to surrender.

  • Hun Tuo persuaded the Ancient Clan’s Great Saints to avoid war, while they debated seeking help from forbidden zones, Dique, and the Immortal Emperor’s lineage.
  • The Ancient Emperor Clans issued a joint announcement proposing that the races seek the Immortal Ascension Road together, and Ye Fan replied that the Human Race would destroy only God Spirit Valley.
  • Lin Xian told Hun Tuo that Ye Fan controlled the Heavenly Court and had gone to the Southern Ridge to eliminate God Spirit Valley’s remnants.
  • Ye Fan’s army devastated God Spirit Valley, killed its young master Zi Tiandu, and Wang Shu framed another killing as internal Ancient Clan conflict.
  • The Silver-Blood Tribe’s submission to the Heavenly Court spread across the Ancient Clan, prompting other Royal Clans to consider surrendering.

Ch. 400[I Can Love the Heavenly Court Too]

Lin Xian courted the weaker Primordial races with offers of land, formations, and burial grounds while Ye Fan advised him on how to secure their trust. He then persuaded a penniless Ancestral King that the Human Race’s sect system could give his descendants a chance to rise, and left him considering Heavenly Court support for their education.

  • After the radical Ancient Clans were subdued, weaker races sent Ancestral Kings to Yaochi to pledge loyalty to the Heavenly Court and Human Race.
  • Lin Xian offered the races developed clan territories, formations based on Wu Shi’s patterns, and a chance to buy burial grounds from Duan De; the Green Ghost Tribe’s Ancestral King accepted the burial-ground offer.
  • Ye Fan advised Lin Xian to let the races provide the labor for their own formations, then suggested that he appeal to a poor Ancestral King through his concern for his descendants.
  • Lin Xian told the Ancestral King that the Human Race’s sect system and its tradition of sharing scriptures had enabled it to produce successive Great Emperors.
  • Lin Xian framed support from the Heavenly Court as a chance for the Ancestral King’s descendants to study scriptures and wield Emperor Weapons, urging him not to deprive them of education.
