But Li Wei was not simply torturing Voldemort's fragmented soul for the sake of torment.

Combined with the Soul Overcharge Spell and the Soul Construct Spell, Li Wei successfully stripped Voldemort's memories concerning magic from his soul.

It was not that he had not considered directly using the Imperius Curse to manipulate Voldemort's fragmented soul and have Tom Riddle reveal all his magical knowledge himself.

But he had clearly underestimated the strength of will possessed by a fragmented soul made into a Horcrux.

Tearing apart the soul and turning it into a Horcrux necessarily involved a series of massacres and Dark Magic alterations. Throughout that process, the soul's will had been battered into something as deep and unchangeable as darkness itself.

Not even the Imperius Curse could control Tom Riddle's fragmented soul.

"I knew it wouldn't be that easy. Good thing I succeeded!"

A large mass of silvery memory threads floated from the tip of Li Wei's wand. He stored them in a crystal vial, intending to examine them later with the Pensieve.

After some thought, Li Wei did not use the Soul Extraction Spell to compress Voldemort's nearly broken fragmented soul into a Soul Crystal. Instead, he shoved it directly back into the Diary Horcrux.

He still needed Dumbledore to see the Diary Horcrux with his own eyes.

Only by letting Dumbledore personally witness the existence of Horcruxes could he draw upon Dumbledore's connections and influence when gathering them in the future.

Placing Tom Riddle's memories into the Pensieve, Li Wei began examining the memories of sixteen-year-old Voldemort.

At sixteen, Tom Riddle was in his fifth year. Through extensive reading and research, he had confirmed his bloodline connection to Slytherin, one of Hogwarts' original founders.
