And so—
For a while, Mortal Domain continued to develop at a steady pace, until March 27.
The war had been over for some time.
During that time,
this stretch of sea had enjoyed a long-awaited peace. No other continents came to disturb it. If things could stay this way, there would be no need to go to the War Mire at all.
Leaning on his Jadeite Staff, Chen Fan stood alone on Rugged Island, gazing at Qi Yue's grave as the salty sea breeze brushed over him. He did not think he was greedy.
He wanted so little.
Yet even that tiny bit had not been left to him.
"Young master."
Crippled Monkey approached from behind to report. "April 1 is almost here. Preparations for the Mortal Domain Third Spring Examination are in full swing, and there still doesn't seem to be any progress on Chen Jiutian's end."
"Should I press him?"
"No."
At the thought of it, Chen Fan let out a helpless sigh.
Some time ago, Chen Jiutian had said he could improve the Heavenly Thunder Formation so it could charge Sky-Piercing Pillars in batches, and charge them faster. Chen Fan had promised him the position of Deputy Pavilion Master of the Strategist Pavilion if he succeeded.
But—
Chen Jiutian was young, proud, and ambitious.
He had immediately made a military pledge: if he failed to solve it within three months, he would present his head.
It was not that Chen Fan had forgotten the pledge. But the deadline was approaching, and he understood how young men could be. Afraid Chen Jiutian might actually present his head, he had specifically told Crippled Monkey to keep an eye on him these days so he would not do anything foolish on impulse.
"Let's go back."
He did not linger.
