| Occupation/Role | Chen Fan’s personal carriage and mobile weapons platform; later a ceremonial vehicle 111 184 303 |
| First Appearance | Unlocked as a rare Vehicle Workshop design in Chapter 101; first shown completed in Chapter 111 101 111 |
History
Chen Fan unlocked the rare chariot when he upgraded the Vehicle Workshop to Level 4 and obtained its qualitative-change result. Crafting it required a Wraith King’s corpse. He later forged one and equipped its Heaven-and-Earth Chessboard form with 187 Level-5 Cannon Towers and seven Level-6 Cannon Towers 101 111.
The chariot carried Chen Fan’s party through Eternal Night for a surprise attack on Pill Sect City. It flew above the city, transformed, and bombarded its defenses; afterward, its spacious cabin carried the spoils home 112 113 114. Chen Fan continued using it for travel and construction work, including laying transport lines from the moving carriage 149 150 169.
As flying boats became available, the original chariot’s limited flight made it less useful. Chen Fan considered its symbolic importance greater than its practical value 158 184.
Jiu Wu later proposed a much larger Nine-Five Dragon Chariot pulled by nine Strange Dragons, with himself as coachman. Qian Xiaoping prepared its design, and the completed carriage appeared with Jiu Wu at the reins. It remained in use for Chen Fan’s travel, including an expedition to Soul Land and a visit to Yellow Springs Continent 299 341 342 344 395 406.
Appearance
The original chariot is a black, dark-gold, and crimson carriage pulled by nine Flame Dragon Horses. Its later Strange Dragon-drawn version is vastly larger 111 344.
- Original carriage: A dark-gold metal platform supports a wood-and-bone cabin with nine coiled-dragon pillars and bone-fragment railings resembling scales 111.
- Flame Dragon Horses: Their bodies combine skeletal frames, churning dark-red lava, visible golden liquid, and white-hot flames in their eye sockets 111.
- Later carriage: Its blue-black body hangs behind nine Strange Dragons on sea-gold ropes; Jiu Wu occupies the driver’s seat 344.
Abilities and Limitations
Original carriage: travel and protection
- Travels on land at three times the speed of a Skeleton Horse and has defensive strength equivalent to a Level-2 City Wall 111.
- Can fly for no longer than the time it takes an incense stick to burn. Flight consumes one Eerie Stone per breath, making it expensive to sustain 111.
- Cannot fire its mounted Cannon Towers while traveling in carriage form 111.
Heaven-and-Earth Chessboard
- The original carriage transforms into a broad chessboard with 361 intersections, each capable of holding a Cannon Tower 111.
- Mounted towers can fire beyond the camp’s normal range restrictions, but consume Eerie Stones at a greatly increased rate 111.
- The mounted towers developed cracks during the Pill Sect bombardment. Chen Fan found that the Altar could not repair them and expected to replace them after at most two more activations 114.
- The later Strange Dragon-drawn carriage is not shown using this transformation 344 406.
Strange Dragon-drawn carriage
- Nine Strange Dragons pull the redesigned chariot through the air at great speed 344 406.
- Qian Xiaoping’s design called for Star Metal to withstand the speed generated by the dragons 341.
Notable Incidents
- Pill Sect raid: The original chariot’s airborne Chessboard form broke the city’s protective formation and supported Chen Fan’s surprise bombardment 112.
- Canyon ambush: Steel cables failed to stop its Flame Dragon Horses. Four Level-3 Arrow Towers placed inside the cabin killed attackers who entered it, though the chariot itself could not fire outward in carriage form 131.
- Fourth-Level advancement ceremony: Jiu Wu drove the older chariot in a formal procession for Chen Fan 303.
- Continental exchange gathering: The redesigned, nine-dragon chariot made its public arrival with Jiu Wu driving 344.
